Amazingly close. Just imagine what would have happened if the Republicans had put up a creditable candidate and not that Walker ass-clown.

Biden: Georgia voters ‘rejected Ultra MAGAism’ in reelecting Warnock

President Biden said that voters in Georgia “rejected Ultra MAGAism” in reelecting Sen. Raphael Warnock (D) to the Senate in the runoff election on Tuesday.

Biden said on Twitter that he called to congratulate Warnock on his victory shortly after multiple media outlets projected him as the winner in his reelection bid against Republican Herschel Walker, who was backed by former President Trump.

“Tonight Georgia voters stood up for our democracy, rejected Ultra MAGAism, and most importantly: sent a good man back to the Senate. Here’s to six more years,” Biden said.

Warnock led Walker by nearly 3 points in the runoff, as of early Wednesday morning, after neither candidate received the necessary majority to win in the first round of voting last month. Warnock led Walker on Election Day by about 1 point, but the Libertarian nominee won 2 percent of the vote.

Vice President Harris also congratulated Warnock, saying that voters wanted their senator to fight for them.

“Georgia voters said they wanted a Senator who would fight for them—and made it a reality when they reelected @ReverendWarnock to the U.S. Senate,” she tweeted.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) tweeted that Warnock’s win is a “victory” for the state and for democracy.

“Senator Warnock’s well-earned victory is a victory for Georgia, and a victory for democracy and against MAGA Republican extremist policies,” he said.

A surprise. They have found an attorney to represent them.

The GOP nominees for three statewide positions in Arizona have filed lawsuits contesting the election results in the state after all three narrowly trailed their Democratic opponents in close races from last month’s midterm elections.

Republican nominees Kari Lake, running for governor, Mark Finchem, running for secretary of state, and Abe Hamadeh, running for attorney general, filed the challenges on Friday, four days after the state certified the vote and declared winners in most races, including the gubernatorial and Senate contests.

In the governor’s race, Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs (D) defeated Lake by about 0.6 points. In the contest to become the next secretary of state, Democrat Adrian Fontes defeated Finchem by almost 5 points.

Democrat Kris Mayes led Hamadeh by 511 votes as of the certification, but that race is undergoing a recount, as Mayes leads by less than 0.1 points. Arizona law requires any race to automatically go to a recount if the margin is within 0.5 points.

I don't know why he was surprised , after his comments during the campaign surely he did not expect to win the vampire vote?

Defeated Georgia GOP Senate candidate Herschel Walker was 'absolutely shocked' he didn't win 100% of the vote in Johnson County, where he grew up: report

    "
Walker was "shocked" he didn't 100% of the vote in his home county last month, per The Daily Beast.
The Republican carried Johnson County 74%-26% over Warnock, but was still taken aback by the result.

"I'm gonna call the sheriff and have him find out who didn't vote for me," Walker reportedly said.

Bar Complaint Filed Against Alan Dershowitz over Kari Lake Voting Machine Lawsuit Accuses Famed Lawyer of ‘Helping Lead the Attack on Democracy’

A legal group filed a bar complaint against Harvard Law School Professor Alan Dershowitz on Friday claiming he violated legal ethics rules while representing former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake (R) in a failed voting machine lawsuit against Arizona Governor-Elect Katie Hobbs (D).

That lawsuit, Lake v. Hobbs, leveled a multi-pronged attack on the integrity of the Grand Canyon State’s election process – specifically in regard to the use of electronic ballot-counting devices. Originally filed in April of this year, the matter was dismissed in August. Earlier this month, Dershowitz and other attorneys who worked on the lawsuit were sanctioned in federal court.

The bar complaint largely focuses on a series of claims, attributed to Dershowitz, contained in that failed lawsuit and found to have been meritless. The filing refers to them as “unfounded conspiracy theories – easily proven false – with no basis in law or fact.”

The 65 Project, which describes itself as a bi-partisan group of “legal and political figures,” filed the complaint with the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers Office of Bar Counsel, an administrative body that investigates allegations of unethical conduct made against attorneys. The group that filed the complaint is named after 65 separate lawsuits filed by Donald Trump, allies, and fellow travelers in the aftermath of his 2020 election loss to President Joe Biden.

One example cited by the bar complaint is the lawsuit’s claim that the infamous Cyber Ninja audit of Maricopa County voting machines showed a “significant” number of “discrepancies” between the vote totals reflected on software and the official reported results.

“However, this is untrue,” the bar complaint says. “There was, in fact, no substantial difference between the official results and the audit results.”

He and his team are the best.

Marc E. Elias - attorneys were proud to defend Arizona Governor-Elect @katiehobbs from a meritless election contest this month.

Elias Law Group Attorneys Defeat Kari Lake’s Election Contest https://twitter.com/EliasLawGroup/st...28778910195715

    _________

An Arizona judge on Tuesday rejected a request to sanction Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake (R) over her lawsuit challenging her defeat.

Maricopa County and Katie Hobbs (D), in her capacities as both governor-elect and secretary of state, had asked the judge to require Lake and her legal team to pay all parties’ attorneys’ fees, arguing the suit was groundless and made in bad faith.

Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Peter Thompson in Tuesday’s decision reiterated that Lake did not meet the burden of providing clear and convincing evidence of her claims necessary to win the case, but he said her suit did not meet the standard for imposing sanctions.

“There is no doubt that each side believes firmly in its position with great conviction,” Thompson ruled on Tuesday. “The fact that Plaintiff failed to meet the burden of clear and convincing evidence required … does not equate to a finding that her claims were, or were not, groundless and presented in bad faith. Any legal decision must be based on the law and facts rather than subjective beliefs or partisan opinions, no matter how strongly held.”

Thompson’s ruling, however, does require Lake to reimburse Hobbs $33,040.50 for certain costs incurred during the proceedings in accordance with other state statutes applicable because Lake did not win the case.

Those costs include $28,351 in fees for expert witnesses called by Hobbs and $4,689.50 in compensation paid to Hobbs’s representative who attended ballot inspections prior to trial.

Lake’s campaign has vowed to appeal the judge’s dismissal of the case, standing by the unproven allegations of misconduct and railing against Hobbs’s sanctions push.

Maricopa County and Hobbs had argued Lake and her attorneys should have known that they had no evidence to successfully mount an election challenge, also noting Lake’s refusal to commit to accepting the election results prior to the midterms.

“Courts are established by Arizona’s Constitution and statutes to resolve actual disputes between parties,” the motion stated. “They do not exist so that candidates for political office can attempt to make political statements and fundraise. And they should not be used to harass political opponents and sow completely unfounded doubts about the integrity of elections. All of those things happened in this matter.”

The motion also took aim at a tweet Lake posted accusing the founding partner of Elias Law Group, a firm representing Hobbs as governor-elect, of improperly emailing the judge “what to say” in his dismissal.

There is no evidence to support the allegation, and Lake later deleted the tweet after it was cited in the sanctions request.

“@katiehobbs wants Marc Elias well compensated for helping her destroy free and fair elections in Arizona. This is an attack on our First Amendment & the rule of law. Who will speak out against it?” Lake’s campaign tweeted on Monday evening.

Democrat Katie Hobbs takes office as Arizona governor

Katie Hobbs took the oath of office Monday to become Arizona’s 24th governor and the first Democrat to hold the office since 2009.

Hobbs was sworn in during a private ceremony at the state Capitol as she formally took over from Republican Doug Ducey. A public inauguration for the governor and others taking statewide offices is scheduled for Thursday.

Hobbs was surrounded by her parents, husband and two children as she took the oath of office in the lobby of the governor’s office on the ninth floor of the executive tower on the Capitol grounds, according to a livestream of the event, which was not open to the public or media. Her mother’s joyous tears distracted the incoming governor, who paused to joke, “stop it, Mom!”

Afterward, she posed for photos with her family and signed a certificate.

Hobbs is the outgoing secretary of state and was previously a state legislator who rose to be the top Democrat in the Senate. As governor, she’ll have to work with a House and Senate narrowly controlled by Republicans. The new Legislature convenes for the first time next week.

Hobbs assumes control of a state with a strong economy and a solid financial position, with a large budget surplus forecast for the next fiscal year.

Hobbs is the fifth woman to be Arizona governor. The last Democratic governor was Janet Napolitano, who resigned in January 2009 to be U.S. Homeland Security secretary under President Barack Obama. She was replaced by Republican Gov. Jan Brewer.

The Arizona Constitution says state officers take their position on the first Monday in January. While Hobbs took office on schedule, the public ceremony was delayed because Monday is the observed New Year holiday.

Also formally taking office Monday were Democrats Adrian Fontes as secretary of state and Kris Mayes as attorney general, both of whom defeated Trump-backed Republicans who refused to concede and unsuccessfully challenged their losses in court. Mayes’s 280-vote victory was among the closest statewide races in Arizona history.

Kimberly Yee was sworn in for her second term as state treasurer and Tom Horne as superintendent of public instruction, a role he filled for two terms beginning in 2003. Paul Marsh was sworn in as mine inspector. Yee, Horne and Marsh are Republicans.

The news above has already upset the loser.

The latest on the new Congress and House speaker vote

House adjourns after McCarthy fails to secure enough votes in third ballot for House speaker

House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy failed to lock down the votes needed for speaker again as the House has concluded voting for a third round.

GOP Rep. Tom Cole called for the House to adjourn until noon Wednesday following the vote. Most Democrats supported the motion to adjourn, so the House stands adjourned.

The final vote was 212 votes for Democratic Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, 202 votes for McCarthy and 20 votes for GOP Rep. Jim Jordan.

The last time the vote for a new speaker went past the first ballot was 100 years ago, in 1923. The loss underscores how Republican infighting between moderates and hardliners will complicate the GOP's majority in the House of Representatives.

Jaysus the Republicans have got themselves in a right mess.

They're up to the sixth attempt to elect a speaker, and they still can't get anyone past the line.

On a positive note, Hakeem Jeffries should become the first Black lawmaker to lead a party in congress.
