^ Just another conspiracy you have latched on to.

FBI search warrant shows Trump under investigation for potential obstruction of justice, Espionage Act violations

A search warrant newly unsealed on Friday reveals that the FBI is investigating Donald Trump for a potential violation of the Espionage Act and removed classified documents from the former president’s Florida estate earlier this week.

A receipt accompanying the search warrant, viewed by POLITICO in advance of its unsealing, shows that Trump possessed documents including a handwritten note; documents marked with “TS/SCI,” which indicates one of the highest levels of government classification; and another item labeled “Info re: President of France.”

Also among the items taken from Mar-a-Lago this week: An item labeled “Executive grant of clemency re: Roger Jason Stone, Jr.,” a reference to one of Trump’s closest confidants who received a pardon in late 2020.

The warrant shows federal law enforcement was investigating Trump for removal or destruction of records, obstruction of justice and violating the Espionage Act — which can encompass crimes beyond spying, such as the refusal to return national security documents upon request. Conviction under the statutes can result in imprisonment or fines.

The documents, unsealed after the Justice Department sought their public disclosure amid relentless attacks by Trump and his GOP allies, underscore the extraordinary national security threat that federal investigators believed the missing documents presented. The concern grew so acute that Attorney General Merrick Garland approved the unprecedented search of Trump’s estate last week.

The disclosure of the documents comes four days after Trump publicly confirmed the court-authorized search of his Mar-a-Lago home by the FBI, marshaling his political allies to unleash fierce criticism of federal investigators. But the details in the warrant underscore the gravity of the probe — an unprecedented investigation of a former president for mishandling some of the nation’s most sensitive secrets.

Trump has claimed since Monday that he has cooperated with investigators from the National Archives and FBI for months and that the unannounced search was an unnecessary escalation. But after several rounds of negotiations in which materials were recovered by the Archives, federal investigators came to believe Trump hadn’t returned everything in his possession.

The search warrant, signed on Aug. 5 by federal magistrate judge Bruce Reinhart, revealed that dozens of items were seized, most of them described in vague terms like “leatherbound box of documents,” “binder of photos” and “handwritten note.”

Other items on the list indicate the presence of classified material, describing them as “miscellaneous top secret documents” and “miscellaneous confidential documents.”

Stone’s attorney Grant Smith said that the longtime Trump ally “has no knowledge as to the facts surrounding his clemency documents appearing on the inventory of items seized from former President Trump’s home at Mar-a-Lago.”

Shortly after 3 p.m., the Justice Department confirmed that Trump’s lawyers would not oppose the public release of the search warrant and underlying receipt of materials, which had already begun to circulate widely.

Well, Backspin has a point. The US establishment usually doesn't let criminals get away with breaking the law when there is significant evidence. No way that Trump should ever be president again, let alone in the first place.

Melania Trump's Alleged Involvement In The FBI Raid Isn't What Anyone Expected

The FBI carried out an unprecedented raid at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach, Florida, on Aug. 8, 2022. Trump released a statement saying the "unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate."

However, Attorney General Merrick Garland said that the Department of Justice requested to the court that the search warrant for Trump's home be unsealed and released to the public, according to CNN. Garland also announced that he "personally approved the decision to seek a search warrant in this matter."

It appears that the DOJ had been tipped off about Trump's potential wrongdoings leading up to the FBI's raid. "As talks between FBI & Trump lawyers soured between June & August, a witness told investigators there may be more classified documents at Mar-a-Lago. DOJ officials began to distrust Trump's team," tweeted Wall Street Journal reporter Sadie Gurman.

Now, some are speculating about who the FBI informant could be, including conservative lawyer George Conway, who quote-tweeted Gurman's statement, asking, "Who is CI-1?"

Insiders Point To Melania Trump As A Potential FBI Informant

Newsweek reports that an informant told the FBI about the unauthorized documents that Donald Trump had taken to Mar-a-Lago. "In order for the investigators to convince the Florida judge to approve such an unprecedented raid, the information had to be solid, which the FBI claimed," a source told Newsweek.

"So much paranoia in a mole hunt, no one to trust, so much to do, so much to lose, so many walls closing in so fast," tweeted former FBI agent Peter Strzok. He ended his tweet with a surprising accusation: "...also, might be Melanie," referring to Melania Trump. But there is currently no evidence that the former first lady tipped off the FBI.

Some are looking at other Trump family members as potential informants. The Independent noted that Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump seem to be separating themselves from the former president.

"I think there were a lot of stories a few weeks ago about Jared and Ivanka trying to back away from Trump and trying to start their own brand, essentially break off from Trump and pulling away from the Trump orbit," said Rick Wilson, co-founder of the Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump conservative PAC.

With paranoia mounting and speculation growing, it's unclear when -- or if -- we will learn who the FBI's informant was.

Trump's own lawyer was present during the raid, and signed off on the confiscated items seized by the FBI. The head of the FBI was appointed by Trump.

But you and the Trumptards are simple people, so simple "theories" are much easier for your low iq brains to comprehend. It can be a "stolen election", or "planted evidence", just keep it simple, for the stupid. You fail to understand that there are three branches of government, and the Judicial is one of them. Even Trump got to appoint judges.

Melania is a good suspect. She doesn’t want him to run for president again. I reckon she secretly hates him but has a prenup that cuts her off from the moola if she leaves.

MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell speaks to Neal Katyal, former acting U.S. Solicitor General, Andrew Weissmann, former FBI General Counsel, and Bradley Moss, a national security attorney, about what we can learn from the newly released Trump search warrant and why Donald Trump’s newest explanation for the classified documents found at Mar-A-Lago makes no sense.

Good one David. Here is some background on Merrick Garland, and why he has good reason to finally nail Trump to the wall

President Barack Obama, a Democrat, nominated Garland to serve as an associate justice of the Supreme Court in March 2016 to fill the vacancy created by the death of Antonin Scalia. However, the Republican Senate majority refused to hold a hearing or vote on his nomination. The unprecedented refusal of a Senate majority to consider the nomination was highly controversial. Garland's nomination lasted 293 days (the longest to date by far), and it expired on January 3, 2017, at the end of the 114th Congress. Eventually, President Donald Trump, a Republican, nominated Neil Gorsuch to the vacant seat and the Republican Senate majority confirmed him.
President Joe Biden nominated Garland as attorney general in January 2021. He was confirmed by the Senate and took office in March.

    Wiki.

^ That is a crap interview.

It does confirm that ... "Trump's own lawyer was present during the raid,"

But the question of " ... and signed off on the confiscated items seized by the FBI" was not even raised.

So, what was the point of displaying that clip?

Trump continues to fundraise off latest scandal with ‘nuclear codes'

Former President Donald Trump’s political action committee mocked reports that he may have illegally harboured classified documents at his home in an emailed pitch to raise more funds from the ex-president’s supporters.

In a fundraising appeal sent under Mr Trump’s name on Thursday, the ex-president said: “The nuke codes are 15-25-50-80” and asked if he could count on recipients to donate an amount ranging from $15 to $80.

Former president’s Save America political action committee is behind fundraising appeal.

Just for balance, this is what is being reported on 'Sky News'.

Their so-called expert is just a nut job and Curtain University would do well to distance themselves from him.

He is "Joseph M. Siracusa is Professor in Human Security and International Diplomacy and Discipline Head of Global Studies in the School of Global Studies, Social Science and Planning, at RMIT University, Australia where he is a specialist in American politics and global security"

... and he just fucks up so many statements.

e.g. @ 1.30min Siracusa says "the President is playing chicken with the Biden Government" ... well hello joe, did you miss the memo?
Trump is no longer the President!
Biden is both the President and the Democrates are the majority Government.

@ 2.10 he says the 'Biden Government over-reacted and raided the Office" ... err, no Joe, the FBI, under the stewardship of a republican appointed DOJ head executed a search warrant.

    Link? Trump wasn't there.

I'd hate those FBI Agents to be publicly outed and become a target.

Ha! I was thinking I wouldn’t want her to be my legal representation for anything. She seems rather clueless, not a thought running through her head, just deadpan answering questions.
