    Who will succeed Boris Johnson?

Post jubilee poll mooted by Tory MPS

23rd June he has two crucial by elections.

Bookies have tipped inter alia Ben Wallace ,Mordaunt Truss, Hunt et al

I think Johnson may survive a vote but new snouts will appear as the one consistent policy of teh most successful party is in History is they always ditch losers and if there is any chance he becomes an electoral liability a way will be found to send home into the long grass as Lord Blojo of partygate

Good background here, tho I think Truss' remainer credentials wlll bar her.

Why Liz Truss is most likely the next Tory leader - New Statesman

Tom Tugendhat and many other moderates may begin to distance themselves from a waning leadership and bide their time. At present love him or hate him I'd imagine last time's runner up Jeremy Hint has the edge.

From opposition viewpoint the best pick would be the member for the 18th century Jacob Rees Mogg who has the key ability in lieing in Parliament ! boon tish, over to you

There will be a vote but he'll survive, more is the pity.

Tend to agree about Hunt, though unlikely to appeal to the Brexit faction, and his Chinese wife may not be to his advantage. Sunak, though thought to be a natural heir, has lost that image completely with the media coverage of his and his wife's family wealth, particularly during this period of cost of living crisis. Were he to resign quite suddenly, the void would be filled by Dominic Raab as Deputy PM, and I think among the favourites for the full time role.

He won't survive the aftermath of the by elections coming up.

As to who succeeds him, I don't care tbh.

That Raab is in the running says it all.

The Tories need a good clean out and none of the present mob should be in the running if they want to succeed.

It would be nice for a man with some personal scruples, integrity and honesty to take over- such as Jeremy Bernard Corbyn . But of course those very facts determine that it will never happen.

They both do. I'm sure the majority of the UK hate Boris but I can't even think of the Labor leaders name.

That's the reason Boris is in power. Everyone knows what a fucking disaster Labour would be (again).

They'd have to go some to be as disastrous as the Tories.

From Dim Dave with his dodgy deals, through Theresa May to the Greased Piglet. What an absolute fkin shambles they've reduced the country to.

Since you can't even spell the name of the fkin party it seems that says nothing about Sir Keir Starmer.

Tory no-confidence vote in Boris Johnson expected later

A vote of confidence in Prime Minister Boris Johnson's leadership is expected to take place later.

Sir Graham Brady, who chairs the Tory committee that organises such votes, is expected to announce the move shortly.

Speculation about a possible vote this week has been mounting, as Mr Johnson continues to face calls to resign over lockdown parties.

A no-confidence vote will be triggered if 54 Tory MPs submit letters of no-confidence in him.

However, there has to be a minimum of 180 Tory MP's to vote to get rid of him, i.e. more that 50%. That's why Johnson has called for the vote tonight, giving less time for his opponents to marshall support.

But when things get to this point the momentum tends to ramp up.

    Game on
Hunt has stabbed him in the front which may embolden enough smaller fry to follow suit, we'll all know sson enough.

Lesser figures may run as a marker for future polls, Tugendhat be my choice of the rump, however he is too moderate for most of teh RAAAAbid checks and balances,
Liz Thrust may yet be third women pm?

As an American, the one thing I have deduced after all these years on this forum. Which oddly I count as a blessing is that the Tories are utter shitbags beholden to pathetic royals and their families of inherited wealth.

Meanwhile, Dominic Raab hadn't quite understood the importance of Dover to cross-border trade.

Things never go well for a leader even if they survive the No Confidence vote...

...one hopes it won't go well for Boris even after surviving tonight.

The number of votes against Boris Johnson tonight is most likely to fall within the 100 to 149 bracket, according to the odds offered by Ladbrokes. This is what they are offering.

    0-49 - 66/1

    50-99 - 3/1

    100-149 - 15/8

    150-199 - 2/1

    200-249 - 5/1

    250-299 - 16/1

    300+ - 100/1
