Putin said that inflation is expected to slow from the current 11.9% to around 5% in the first quarter of 2023.

EU member to block sanctions on Russian nuclear industry – PM

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said new penalties will only accelerate inflation

"Hungary will veto any EU sanctions that may affect collaboration with Russia’s nuclear energy sector, Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Friday in an interview with state radio.

Kiev has repeatedly called on the 27-nation bloc to include the Russian nuclear industry on its list of sanctions, with some member states supporting the idea.

Hungarian authorities had previously said that cooperation with Russia on nuclear energy is essential for Budapest, which is planning to expand a Russian-built nuclear power plant.

“We will not allow the [EU's] plan to include nuclear energy in the sanctions to be implemented,” the premier said, stressing that penalties against nuclear energy “must obviously be vetoed.”
The new punitive measures are “out of the question,” Orban said, adding that they would accelerate inflation in the landlocked country."

EU has second thoughts on duty-free food from Ukraine – media

The bloc claims that the influx of goods from the country undermines regional trade

"The European Commission (EC) may reconsider its special suspension of all tariffs and quotas on Ukrainian agricultural food exports in the coming weeks after some EU states complained that duty-free supplies put their farmers at a disadvantage, Euractiv reported on Wednesday.

Last May, Brussels swiftly approved a one-year temporary trade liberalization scheme which suspended import duties on all agri-food deliveries from Ukraine shortly after the outbreak of military hostilities in the country.
The measure, meant to boost Ukraine’s economy and contribute to the country’s gradual integration into the EU’s internal market, is up for review in June 2023.

But the bloc is already rushing to reconsider the arrangement, in response to “growing pressure” from Poland, Hungary and Romania, Euractiv said, citing a source familiar with the matter. They are reportedly urging Brussels to “tackle the negative impact” of duty-free imports from Ukraine which have disrupted competitiveness in the region and put EU farmers at risk.

Some agricultural producers have been calling for compensation, while others, such as grain growers in Romania and Poland, warn that an influx of Ukrainian grain via so-called solidarity lanes was pushing them to the brink of bankruptcy."

Russia plays crucial role in Serbia's energy security — minister

The country’s Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Dedovic Negre emphasized that, thanks to Russia, regardless of the energy crisis that Europe is experiencing, Serbian residents can count on an ongoing supply of all oil products

    BELGRADE, January 28. /TASS/.

"Russia guarantees Serbia's energy stability and security amid the crisis in Europe, the country’s Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Dedovic Negre said during a meeting with Russia’s Ambassador to Belgrade Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko.

"The Russian Federation is our vital energy partner, and in these difficult times, the importance of constructing the Balkan Stream gas pipeline, which contributes to Serbia's energy stability and security, cannot be overstated," she said.

She further emphasized that, thanks to Russia, regardless of the energy crisis that Europe is experiencing, Serbian residents can count on an ongoing supply of all oil products."

    FTFY.

Even without a revival of the 1998-99 Kosovo War, the continuing tensions serve Moscow’s agenda of capitalising on political, social and ethnic fractures in the Western Balkans to create trouble for Brussels and Washington.
“I am sure that the Russians are very happy and encouraging Serbia to take the stance that it is at the moment because clearly it is in its interests to try and make trouble in another part of the continent and distract Western attention from Ukraine,” Tim Judah, a special correspondent for The Economist magazine, told Al Jazeera.
“But this issue and the frequent flare-ups of tension long predate the Ukraine war so there is no reason to assume what we have seen recently would not be happening regardless.

Bin Salman urged Baghdad to arrange face-to-face meeting between Saudi, Iranian FMs: Iraqi FM

    Monday, 30 January 2023 7:39 AM [ Last Update: Monday, 30 January 2023 7:46 AM ]

    "
Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein says Saudi Arabia’s crown prince Mohammed bin Salman has urged senior Iraqi authorities to arrange a face-to-face meeting between the top diplomats of Riyadh and Tehran, amid a diplomatic process between the two neighbors aimed at mending strained ties.

Hussein told Iraq’s Kurdish-language Rudaw television news network on Sunday evening that “Mohammed bin Salman has demanded senior Iraqi officials set up the meeting between Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian [in the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad]. We are busy organizing the event, and the timing will be announced later on.”

The Iraqi foreign minister noted that Saudi and Iranian delegates have already held five rounds of security-level meetings in Baghdad.

The confidential negotiations will be publicized through Iraq’s mediation, and Iranian and Saudi foreign ministers will meet in public, Hussein explained.

Earlier this month, the Saudi foreign minister said Riyadh was trying to find a path to dialog with Tehran as the best way to resolve differences.

Speaking at a panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 17, the chief Saudi diplomat said a decision by Saudi Arabia and other Persian Gulf states to focus on their economies and development was a “strong signal to Iran and others in the region that there is a pathway beyond traditional arguments and disputes toward joint prosperity.”

He added, “I think the more we can build a sense of cooperation in the region and the more we can work together, the more we can deliver not just prosperity for our people, but also for our immediate region and beyond.”

Amir-Abdollahian expressed hope on January 13 during a visit to Lebanon that diplomatic ties between Tehran and Riyadh could be restored through dialog between them.

“We are ready to restore ties, and such a move would have positive repercussions on the entire region,” Amir-Abdollahian told a news conference in Beirut.

He also said the first steps should be resuming talks on reopening Iran’s consulate in the Red Sea port city of Jeddah, and Saudi Arabia’s consulate in the holy northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad for citizens interested in religious travel.

Saudi Arabia severed diplomatic relations with Iran in January 2016 after Iranian protesters, enraged by the execution of prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr by the Saudi government, stormed its embassy in Tehran.

The kingdom then pursued a confrontational foreign policy toward the Islamic Republic, especially during the administration of former US President Donald Trump, with whom the Saudi rulers had close ties.

Saudi Arabia appears to have recently changed its antagonistic course, showing willingness through diplomatic channels and third parties to mend fences with Tehran and resume bilateral relations.

The two neighbors remain deeply divided over a set of regional issues, mainly the destructive and protracted Saudi war on Yemen."

    While RT claim:

Oil price cap will not make a dent in Russia’s revenues – IMF
    The IMF actually said:

“It is expected that with the current oil price cap set by the G7, Russian crude oil exports will not be significantly affected, as Russian trade is redirected from countries that have adopted sanctions to countries that have not imposed them,” the IMF said.
What this actually means is that if they were shipping xxx MMBPD west, they are now shipping it east.

Further, from hoohoo's article which he clearly hasn't read:

Russian oil is currently trading below the G7's price cap. The average price for Urals oil blend was $46.82 per barrel, or $341.8 per ton, between December 15 and January 14, according to the Russian finance ministry.
According to business daily RBK, in December the average price of Urals was $50.47 per barrel, which is significantly lower than a year earlier, when Urals cost $72.71 per barrel. In November 2022, the average monthly price of a barrel of Urals was $66.47.
It seems Puffy's blackmail isn't working so well, and the Indians and chinkies are picking up some bargains - and that's only the published price, which means they're probably picking it up cheaper than that.

Meanwhile, everyone else is mostly selling their crude over $80 a barrel.

Any more comedic snippets for us, hoohoo?
