Jaw-dropping' global crash in children being born-BBC

Fertility rate: '''Jaw-dropping''' global crash in children being born - BBC News

We are living the neo Malthusian dream right now. Global birth rates are crashing. Even in China and India.

But regardless of what the data says , regardless of what reality shows , we are one minute from midnight from a global population catastrophe right ? Yeah.

That one minute to midnight thing was an aggregate number based on 'factors' that were threatening human existence, I can't remember it ever being applied exclusively to population concern. The days of Paul Erlickman and 'The Population Bomb" are long gone and the 'one minute to midnight' idea has long since passed.

A small blip in proceedings doesn't change the fact that the world is consuming faster than it can replenish.

And climate change is only going to make that worse.

The population is already unsustainable and even at current projections is expected to be 10.9 billion by the end of the century, although mother nature might have a say in that.

It's completely linked to climate change. It is why Harry and Meghan showed us the way and had a maximum of 2 kids

A blip ? Modern people have realized that life sucks. And you think this is going to change ?

He'll take anything that fits from any century since the dawn of time and make out that it's current.

In fact he probably bought a pair of knickerbockers that didn't fit last week.

I think it’s way over the time that Backspin has to understand the audience on here. Other members are at least a generation ahead of him in terms of experience and understanding.

This would be fine if he was legitimately questioning contemporary issues, but he seems to have made his mind up without the help of real world experience available to him. Instead, he takes any conspiracy theory as gospel fact, without thinking it through, and questioning it with critical thinking or pertinent questions.

This boy is a millennial and only just out of short trousers, in his ability to think critically and question anything. He still insists on using millennial language because he assumes this gives him credibility. It does not.

As dismissive as he is, the lad needs help to understand why the sun rises and sets every day. The different aspects of such events are beyond him. Time to give up on childish pursuits and grow up a bit.

It's not that, he's a dumb shit who needs attention, and unfortunately thinks googling everything makes him look clever.

The result is easy to determine. Western and technological civilization will disappear. Islam survives, they beat their women into submission.

But you are a typical Anglo saxxon boomer. You will pretend everything is hunky dory if it means you can put someone down on the inter Internet.

And I more so meant the human condition in general. Which anyone with an ounce of interest in philosophy understands

So my sister who had a baby 2 weeks ago and told me that the hospital was struggling to find space for her in the maternity section was just telling me a Welsh fantasy story ?

If anyone actually bothered to click on the OP link, what I found interesting is that China is projected to have the worlds third largest population by 2100, after India and Nigeria. Of course I realise it is standard TD SOP to ignore the link, and comment on the poster instead. Real cerebral Thinktank we got here.

So you think the real story here is not the falling fertility rate .
But that the Chinese , even with their small wieners will still be outperforming their western counterparts?

Basically, demographics seem to suggest that China will not stay the worlds largest economy for more than one or two generations. Forget chopsticks- learn to eat curry with your fingers.

It may not even last that long. India being based on a slower, more democratic system, will probably overcome an authoritarian regime already creaking at the seams.

Been hearing that said for 20+ years, still waiting. With domestic approval of the Chinese government being what it is, just wishful thinking imo. What chance India descends into internecine violence (again), or the next storming of the White House is successful? Who knows.
