Utter tripe. Does Cuba and Venezuela have the right to host Russian nuclear submarine pens and ballistic missiles ? Sure. Will the US EVER allow it ? No. They'd threaten to go to war and would start a war to prevent it like they did in 1962. Just as Russia is threatening war over Ukraine hosting US military

There's a thought that brings little joy.

After observing American 'military' policy particularly since the Bay Of Pigs, I was under the impression that the military had lost complete credibility. It's only been a series of clusterfucks, Afghanistan by far the worst although the WMD is a close second now that I reflect on it. One of these days in some non descript silo on the outskirts of Fargo, ND, somebody and his buddy are going to punch in the wrong code and pow!

Your impression of the US military is a bit of a blunt instrument Russ.

US military is funded and deployed at the behest of the contemporary commander in chief. For the purpose of your understanding, that is a political decision, made by the political leadership. Not much that a naive Canadian can do about it anyway.

You have fuck all nothing to say about the topic at hand because you are resolutly clueless. And because you are clueless, you've never heard of the Monroe doctrine. Nor would you have a clue of its implications.

But I found a link that's at your level.

1962 - President John F. Kennedy invoked the Monroe Doctrine during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The U.S. placed a naval quarantine around Cuba to prevent the Soviet Union from installing ballistic missiles on the island.

1982 - President Reagan invoked the Monroe Doctrine to fight communism in the Americas including countries such as Nicaragua and El Salvador

You are now contradicting yourself. You said the US would go to war over Cuba, but they didn’t. By judicious use of the Monroe Doctrine, (written for entirely different purposes) they used a Naval quarantine of Cuba to oblige the Soviet Union to back down.
That is not what this thread is about, but if you wish to invoke the Monroe doctrine, you would know that the US voluntarily excluded themselves from political interference in Europe

The Monroe doctrine was proposed in order to limit the former European colonies of South American countries expansionism, when they became newly independent.

Once again, your Google fu has let you down. Do I need to remind you that Ukraine is in Europe? Thick child.

NATO has sinced morphed into a polical tool wielded by the US. It is no longer defending anyone and certainly not even aligned with it's member nations policies or best interests. Time European member nations wake up and drop out of an organisation which has become a political arm of the US.

The EU already has the European Defence Agency. Pump more money into it and tell the US to fuck off.

To be fair the European Defence Circus is a bit of a joke. Perhaps the talk of UK or France giving up their high table UN seat to the EU was a step too far for the EU juggernaut?

^^ Do you really reckon Europe would have the cojones to do that mate? I don't.
Trump was right about one thing- Europe should foot more of it's own defence bill.
As for Nato, seems mainly a hawks lobby group these days (not just US hawks).
A rationalisation and reimagining is certainly in order, and would benefit all parties.

Please don't tell me you're another of those that have no clue as to how the system works, the timelines . . .

Nothing to do with timelines, Europe should foot more of it's own defence bill. Or are they pleading poverty?

Like every major project the socialist get involved with, it’s always a half assed compromise. Europe might like to be seen as a collective and efficient unit in so many areas. The fact that the joints are creaking, politically and economically precludes such nonsense.

As an institution they are too divided over the basics, so getting anything working outside the mainstream is just pie in the sky.

The European ideals were never so far apart than over the national imperatives for defence. Like the expectation that the UK or France would give up seats at the UN for Europes sake? I can’t stop laughing at the thought of EU nations lack of interoperability.

So, as usual . . . nothing but baseless generalisations and unfounded bullshit . . .

You're simply throwing your Brexit anti-EU crap further without any facts, just your usual agenda.

The Russians would never be so stupid as to risk a war they can never win. They would be absolute flogged by the west the minute they stepped over their border into a NATO country, both economically and militarily and Putin doesnt have the balls. His game is murdering his political opponents, journalists and closing any news outlet that disagrees with his narrative. One only has to look at his allies and friends, Lukashenko, Assad the CCP and DPRK and generally any murderous dictator.

I answered your question. I am not responsible for the fact that you don’t like the answer.

Perhaps you could refute my argument, or explain why the EU Defence Agency will work. But you won’t do that, because you don’t have the answers!

Ok, I'll do it your way:
It works because liberal elites run it

There are no Liberals, or elites in the EU. The show is run by socialists, who don’t fit in their own countries.

In response, I am far from satisfied with an inaccurate answer.

The commissioners tend to be nominated by member states, who want to move dead wood away from important stuff back home.
