We guessed she was alive, but "well" and doing anything without government instruction? No chance.

Did the video call address her rape?

In this "View, from China" we see some enterprising dissident going around correlating the Uighur concentration camp locations for those outside who initially identified themfrom satellite photos. There are some very good views indeed.

One question and an answer from yesterday:

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian's Regular Press Conference on November 24, 2021

    "Radio Television Hong Kong:

As the participant list published on the US State Department website shows, US President Biden has invited about 110 countries and regions to attend the "Summit for Democracy", the Taiwan authorities included. What is the foreign ministry's response?

    Zhao Lijian:

China firmly opposes the invitation by the US to the Taiwan authorities to the so-called "Summit for Democracy".

There is but one China in the world, the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and the one-China principle is a widely recognized norm governing international relations. Taiwan has no other status in international law than being part of China.

We solemnly urge the US to abide by the one-China principle and the stipulations of the three China-US Joint Communiqués, stop providing "Taiwan independence" forces with any platform, and stop bolstering and emboldening them. Those offering platform to "Taiwan independence" forces will find themselves in an awkward place. Those playing with fire with "Taiwan independence" forces will end up getting burned.

As to the "Summit for Democracy", we have repeatedly stated our position. Democracy is a common value of all humanity, not the patent of a few countries.

What the US has done shows exactly that it is only using democracy as a cover and tool to advance its geostrategic goals, suppress other countries, divide the world, and serve its selfish agenda of maintaining hegemony.

Its acts of practicing bloc politics and inciting confrontation under the guise of democracy are reincarnation of the Cold War mentality and have been widely questioned and rejected by visionary people of the international community."

Of course it does. I mean we might end up with people deciding they don't want concentration camps or to get raped by untouchable government officials.

Can't have that now, can we?

China and Singapore Hold a Senior Officials' Meeting under Bilateral Cooperation Mechanism

    2021-11-25 19:48

"On November 24, 2021, Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Jianghao and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore Gabriel Lim Meng Liang held a senior officials' meeting under the China-Singapore bilateral cooperation mechanism via video link.Wu Jianghao said that China-Singapore relations remain vibrant and resilient despite the persistent COVID-19 pandemic and complicated and evolving international and regional circumstances. The phone conversation between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in October has set out new important and strategic guidelines for the development of bilateral relations. The two sides coordinate COVID-19 response and development cooperation, advance the Belt and Road Initiative and the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor against the downward trend, and make the digital economy and green development new sources of economic growth.

Wu Jianghao stressed that this year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). The sixth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee was successfully held not long ago. China will continue to hold high the banner of building a community with a shared future for mankind, make new contributions to the cause of peace and development of all humanity, and share with the international community including Singapore new opportunities. He hopes that both sides will make good preparations for this year's mechanism meetings and put forward new thoughts and new routes in response to new circumstances and new challenges, in order to speed up the recovery and development of the two countries and achieve greater mutual benefits and win-win results.

Gabriel Lim Meng Liang said that in the past 100 years, especially in the past 40 odd years since the reform and opening up, the CPC has led the Chinese people to eradicate extreme poverty, realize rapid social and economic development and significantly elevate China's international status. Singapore highly admires all these efforts. The Singaporean side has long paid close attention to and actively aligns with China's development strategies, carried out practical cooperation with China to keep up with the times, and facilitated respective development of the two countries. The meeting under the Singapore-China bilateral cooperation mechanism is the highest-level platform for the two sides to discuss cooperation and share ideas. Singapore looks forward to working with China to make this year's meeting a success and jointly tackle global and regional challenges, pushing Singapore-China relations to new heights."

J.K. Rowling becomes target of ‘witchhunt’ under the influence of the West’s ‘politic

Twenty years ago, when Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone premiered in theaters, the whole world was crazy for the fresh and magical Hogwarts School created by writer J.K. Rowling. However, when the main cast reunited to celebrate the blockbuster's 20th anniversary last week, where was the franchise's mother Rowling? She was not even invited, or you could say she was expelled because of "political correctness."

Since HBO Max announced that Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts will stream on January 1, 2022, all spotlights have focused on the cast's reunion. The main leads Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson have confirmed that they will take part in the retrospective special with filmmaker Chris Columbus and other cast members, but without Rowling.

This not only riled me but also many die-hard Chinese fans who call "the magic world would not exist without her!"

The Harry Potter franchise can be seen as Rowling's "son," but when the "son" celebrates his birthday and the mother can't attend, this disobeys the "filial piety culture" of traditional Chinese etiquette.

Rowling created the huge successful Harry Potter IP, but now the Western world ignores and omits her just because of some different voices. Where is the so-called "democracy and freedom?"

A free and tolerant society should accommodate people who speak out for transgender people, as well as those who criticize transgender people.

Rowling only expressed the worry that under the influence of "political correctness" LGBT groups would harm women's rights and she has denied that she has discriminated against the LGBT community. However, the West has still called her "anti-transgender" and "transphobic." Nobody really cares about what Rowling is worried about, but only that she disagrees with LGBT-related policies, so they say she is discriminating against LGBT.

This reveals the unique "single value" in Western culture, which only allows one voice and requires everyone to follow it.

People can certainly criticize Rowling, but not allowing her to participate in the commemoration of her works has actually caused her harm.

Western media often promotes the thought that culture and art should not be kidnapped by politics, but when it comes themselves, they choose to keep silent and not speak out for victims.

On Monday, Rowling said she had received a flood of death threats due to the transgender controversy.

Under rampant "political correctness," society only allows the so-called "correct" voice. This voice calls for the protection of the disadvantaged groups; but if someone disagrees, they besiege him, reject him, or even go to suppress him. Finally, those who demand protection of the rights of the disadvantaged groups undermine the rights of others.

If this continues, they will eventually go to the opposite side of their original intention, and try all means to destroy their enemies. They think that they are the messenger of justice and can be Harry Potter fighting against Lord Voldemort, but in the end they have become the Death Eaters under the leadership of Voldemort.

When Rowling wrote the series, perhaps she had expected that Voldemort would never be completely wiped out. But she probably never expected that as the creator of a wizarding world, she would be the target of a "witchhunt" one day.

I get a sneaky feeling that whether or not JK Rowling turns up at a Harry Potter beano is not very high up the average chinky's list of concerns.

Getting raped by a government official or being locked up for your religious beliefs............. maybe a touch higher.

Rightly, no-one really gives a fuck.

Rowling has a habit of riling the LGBTQ community for no reason, so it's hardly surprising that the arty farty community don't like her.

    Ahem-

You played with me, and dumped me when you are done with me. You said there were no transactions between us. Yes, that is true, our affection towards each other had nothing to do with money or power. But I have a hard time finding closure for, and coming to terms with our three year long relationship.

    The BRI in Action

    Interesting article-

Xinhua Headlines: Freight trains revive ancient Silk Road to boost Asia-Europe trade

-- Launched in November 2013, the Chang'an trains have become a vital transport link between Europe and the city of Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi Province. The city was also where Zhang Qian, an envoy of the Western Han Dynasty (202 BC-25 AD), started his mission to the Western regions over 2,000 years ago, which eventually led to the opening of the Silk Road.

-- The Chang'an trains are the busiest among all 70-plus routes of the China-Europe freight train service, connecting Xi'an with Central Asian and European destinations, including 45 cities in Belt and Road countries.

-- In 2020, Xi'an became a distribution center for the China-Europe freight train service, realizing the interconnections between the inland city and major sources of goods in China, such as the Yangtze River Delta in the east and the Pearl River Delta in the south.by Xinhua writers He Zhanjun, Li Hua and Jiang ChenrongXI'AN, Nov. 28 (Xinhua)

-- With Christmas just a month away, a company in northwest China's Shaanxi Province has been producing at full speed and capacity, with LCD TVs rolling off the assembly line one after another.

These TVs are then loaded onto cross-border freight trains and hit the shelves of numerous stores in Europe in roughly two weeks, ready for the influx of holiday shoppers."Thanks to the stable and efficient operation of the Chang'an trains, the delivery time is cut by half," said Qian Xilong, general manager of the Xi'an CCG Electronic Technology Co., Ltd."Sea shipping is still unpredictable due to the global COVID-19 situation, so many foreign buyers have shifted their orders to me," he added.Launched in November 2013, the Chang'an trains have become a vital transport link between Europe and the city of Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi Province. The city was also where Zhang Qian, an envoy of the Western Han Dynasty (202 BC-25 AD), started his mission to the Western regions over 2,000 years ago, which eventually led to the opening of the Silk Road.As of Nov. 20, the Chang'an trains had conducted a total of 10,963 trips. They are the busiest among all 70-plus routes of the China-Europe freight train service, connecting Xi'an with Central Asian and European destinations, including 45 cities in Belt and Road countries.

"Over 70 Chang'an trains are running every day, more than doubling the number in 2019," said Shao Bo'er, general manager of the company that oversees the operation of the Chang'an trains. The trains have provided strong support for international anti-pandemic cooperation. In 2020, some 56,000 tonnes of medical supplies were transported to Europe via the Chang'an trains. There was a time when some trains came back to Xi'an with empty cars. But now, every returning train is fully packed, said Sun Yimin, director of the administrative committee of Xi'an International Trade and Logistics (ITL) Park.Cookware from Germany, milk powder from the Netherlands and agricultural products from Central Asian countries are among the most popular imports delivered by the trains, according to Sun.To build a highly efficient and low-cost international trading channel, the ITL Park has collaborated with both local and international logistics companies, including DHL and DB Schenker, to create global freight lines.Because of the opening of a German fast line, the journey from Xi'an to Hamburg now takes 10 days, just three days more than air shipping.

In 2020, Xi'an became a distribution center for the China-Europe freight train service, realizing the interconnections between the inland city and major sources of goods in China, such as the Yangtze River Delta in the east and the Pearl River Delta in the south.According to Sun, cargo from 29 provincial-level regions is assembled and distributed in Xi'an through multimodal transport such as rail-land transportation.Shaanxi Siying, a computer monitor manufacturer once based in the southern metropolis of Shenzhen, moved to Xi'an in 2018."I chose Xi'an because of the Chang'an trains," said the company's founder Zhang Yiming. "In Shenzhen, it used to take more than a month to transport my products to Central Asia by sea, but now it only takes seven days by train."For western Chinese cities, the China-Europe freight trains offer a new logistics channel and help local businesses tap the potential of overseas markets.According to Li Mingyuan, mayor of Xi'an, the freight train service is changing the industrial pattern of inland cities and boosting the opening-up of the ancient city of Xi'an.

Statistics show that in 2020, the total value of foreign trade of Xi'an reached 347.38 billion yuan (54.33 billion U.S. dollars), with a year-on-year increase of 7.2 percent.Qian, of the CCG company, also moved his plant from Shenzhen in 2019 to the comprehensive bonded zone in the Xi'an ITL Park and is very proud of his timely and smart decision."We have quadrupled our sales in one year thanks to the Chang'an trains," he said. "Many of my peers are envious of me now."

China, ASEAN upgrade ties to comprehensive strategic partnership

Since the establishment of dialogue relations 30 years ago, China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have moved forward hand-in-hand with fruitful results in various fields, becoming a fine example of the most successful and vibrant bilateral relations in the Asia-Pacific.
Upgrading this relationship, Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced the establishment of the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership. He made the announcement while chairing the Special Summit to Commemorate the 30th Anniversary of China-ASEAN Dialogue Relations via video link in Beijing on Monday morning.
Calling it "a new milestone" in the history of the relations, he said the move will inject new impetus into peace, stability, prosperity and development of the region and the world.

    Good neighbors, friends and partners
Addressing the summit, Xi hailed the good-neighborly friendship and win-win cooperation between China and ASEAN over the past 30 years, saying the valuable cooperation experience lays the foundation and provides guidelines for developing their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
According to the Chinese president, the gains in bilateral cooperation are attributable to the unique geographical proximity and cultural affinity and, more importantly, to the fact that both sides have actively embraced the development trend of the times and made the right historic choice.

Trade between China and the ASEAN has skyrocketed by 85 times since the two sides established their dialogue relations in 1991. Since 2009, China has remained ASEAN's largest trading partner for 12 consecutive years, while in 2020, ASEAN also became China's largest trading partner.

In the first half of this year, bilateral trade between China and ASEAN continued robust expansion, registering a year-on-year growth of 38.2 percent and mutual investment of over $310 billion.
Moreover, China has also been helping ASEAN member states fight the COVID-19 pandemic. As of October, China had provided ASEAN member states with over 300 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines and a large quantity of emergency medical supplies, besides sending teams of medical experts to help build virus-testing labs and work on vaccine trials with several ASEAN countries.
"China was, is and will always be ASEAN's good neighbor, friend and partner," Xi affirmed at the summit, adding that China will take ASEAN as a high priority in its neighborhood diplomacy.

For a shared future and common home
Regarding the future relations between China and ASEAN, the Chinese president made five proposals, urging efforts to move toward a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future and making the region and the world even more prosperous.
Calling for building a peaceful home together, Xi told ASEAN countries that "China will never seek hegemony, still less bully smaller countries."

China supports ASEAN's efforts to build a nuclear weapon-free zone and is prepared to sign the Protocol to the Treaty on the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone as early as possible, Xi said.
"The COVID-19 pandemic has once again proved that no place on Earth is an insulated island enjoying absolute security, and only universal security brings genuine security," the Chinese president pointed out, voicing the necessity of building a safe and secure home together.

He added that China is ready to work with ASEAN countries to jointly build a "health shield" for the region. Under the initiative, according to Xi, China will donate an additional 150 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to ASEAN countries and contribute an additional $5 million to the COVID-19 ASEAN Response Fund.
"Joint efforts are needed to safeguard stability in the South China Sea and make it a sea of peace, friendship and cooperation," said Xi.

President Xi also announced a series of measures to build a prosperous home with ASEAN countries, including providing ASEAN with another $1.5 billion of development assistance in the next three years to support their fight against COVID-19 and economic recovery, buying up to $150 billion worth of agricultural products from ASEAN in the next five years, providing 1,000 items of advanced and applicable technology to ASEAN and supporting a program for 300 young scientists from ASEAN to come to China for exchanges in the next five years.
"Harmony with nature is the basis for humanity's sustained development," Xi said, adding that China is ready to open a dialogue with ASEAN on climate response. He said the two sides can intensify cooperation on clean energy, green finance and investment, agriculture as well as marine sustainable development.
Xi also highlighted the importance of building an amicable home together and urged the two sides to advocate common humanitarian values, promote people-to-people exchanges and deepen mutual learning between civilizations.
Quoting an ancient Chinese statesman who observed that "designs for justice prevail, and acts for people's benefit succeed," Xi told ASEAN partners to keep in mind the people's aspirations for a better life and shoulder the mission of the times to safeguard peace and promote development.
