As long as they keep getting +90% approval ratings from their own citizens, they have little to be scared about.

So you are accusing Harvard University, and the Worlds largest annual democracy survey of being Communist agents, faking their results?

Well well well, it is Nury Vittachi. Not surprised for him to spew such disinformation. Without ill guessing whether he is a shill or not, what he has written is a classic disinformation piece.

TLDR: cherry pick some wordings or facts, strawman it and mix in a lot of lies, ignore any unfavourable facts, end with a strong sentiment that he wants to convey.

He said the water cannon was aimed at a pan dem law maker "and his gang of lawbreakers", virtually inventing a scenario where if anyone only take a single look at the video on the attack can disprove it. Plain, outright lie.

He ignored unfavourable facts, cherry picked points and strawman it, saying the march is supposed to include lots of religions that proceed to say yeah but we are not dumb, see none of the leaders supported it so we all are against you while the origin of the march name of including the other religions is supposingly a support of the muslim mosque that has been sprayed and to be inclusive including all other religions in the name. Not to mention the south asians providing support to the marchers in front of chung hing mansion, nor Mohan's condemnation of the water cannon attack. Also less than a thousand people? If you looked at his past posts it is nothing new, always trying to paint the picture of a super minority violent group having dwindling support from the majority. I don't expect him to get his numbers right, nor do I think he tried to.

He then proceed with a lot of sentimental statements which to be fair when listed out independently of the above is a personal preference e.g. you can't fight violence with violence etc... But mixed with the above lies, you can't help but to think he is trying spread an anti protest sentiment by using the above lies as a "support".

Used to give him the benefit of doubt by reading his posts but gave up after some months because of constant false information. If you read his past post it is more or less written in a similar fashion, but unless you have the mood to read lies after lies, don't.

Did I miss something? The narrative seems different from what I remember of the mosque attack. : HongKong

I did live in HK for 12 years. But I could easily live in China, and an ever growing number of westerners are doing exactly that.
If I were an English teacher for example, why accept lower Thai wages and live there, when I could earn more in China, and benefit from far superior transport infrastructure?
Also learn the basics of a language of far greater importance than Thai.

^ No ta. But there are certainly expats there, some quite successful.

Salaries about same Sab. $3,000 to $5,000 monthly in higher end schools. Personally if I was qualified I too would teach in China. Not because of public transport but more the far greater cultural diversity available to observe first hand thoughout the nation.

I was referring more to the TEFLer end really norts- y'know, TD level not the 'education aristocrats'. But hey, given that China is not considered quite the 'Wild West' these days, it may indeed be that basic TEFL type jobs are more in line with Thai salary levels now. Not like I'm looking.

China's population is set to get smaller for the first time since the great famine struck 60 years ago.
    Why?
And how will this affect the rest of the world?

China's total fertility rate (births per woman) was 2.6 in the late 1980s – well above the 2.1 needed to replace deaths. It has been between 1.6 and 1.7 since 1994, and slipped to 1.3 in 2020 and just 1.15 in 2021.

By way of comparison, in Australia and the United States the total fertility rate is 1.6 births per woman. In ageing Japan it is 1.3.

The reasonable assumptions behind that prediction are that China's total fertility rate slips from 1.15 to 1.1 between now and 2030, and remains there until 2100.

The rapid decline will have a profound impact on China's economy
The annual average decline of 1.73% in China's working-age population sets the scene for much lower economic growth
    .

Despite forecasts that this will be "the Chinese century", these population projections suggest influence might move elsewhere – including to neighbouring India, whose population is expected to overtake China within this coming decade.

The "Why" wasn't explained. Fertility I suspect is not a problem in China.

Possibly female life style/opportunities have changed.

Possibly the requirement for a women to have a larger number of children has deacreased. A larger number not having to rely on numerous children to care for them in old age.

If they keep repressing fertile muslims of Turkmen origin who know all of Chinese might fit in a stretch Suzuki one day on a zero dollar tour of the Chinag Mai smoketeria, with optional tea in the rock garden of esteemed big nose grammarian Wezprom-Alby-On

Murder a few more democracy activists the possibilities are endless.

IIRC, that group are/were allowed more children, than non-Muslims, hardly repression. IMHO

Does that include the ones they forcibly removed to the mainland for daring to mention the "D" word?

    TAIPEI (Reuters) -

"The U.S. State Department has updated its fact sheet on Taiwan again, to reinstate a line about not supporting formal independence for the Chinese-claimed, democratically-governed island.

Last month the State Department changed the wording on its website on Taiwan, removing wording both on not supporting Taiwan independence and on acknowledging Beijing's position that Taiwan is part of China, to anger in Beijing.

Washington said the update did not reflect a change in policy. That wording has now be changed again, to reinstate a line saying "we do not support Taiwan independence".

The change was first reported by Taiwan's official Central News Agency on Friday, and appears to have happened on May 28, the date at the top of the fact sheet.

The State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment."

"Photo taken on June 7, 2022 shows the Zhongshan Bridge under construction as part of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan link in south China.

The total length of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan link will be 24 kilometers long and open to traffic in 2024. It will cut commuting time between the two cities from two hours to 30 minutes.

Upon completion, the link will improve transportation in the area and be an important piece of infrastructure in the Greater Bay Area, which covers Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, and nine cities in south China's Guangdong Province, including capital Guangzhou as well as Shenzhen.
