Sure- but he has been effectively imprisoned for all of that time. The legality of trying an Australian citizen under US law for an alleged offence that is not even alleged to have taken place in the USA is dubious in the first place. I'm sure you would love it if China tried that.

Unfortunately it isn't as he is being extradited to face charges in the jurisdiction 'harmed' . . . and him being an Aussie is irrelevant . . . what sucks more than anything is the Brits keeping him basically locked in on dubious charges in Sweden at the behest of the US.

Lets just agree it's fucked, and if you are an aussie the government has not got your back. They would rather see you tortured to death than say a word against uncle sam. That's the way it is, when you're a client state. The sanctimony and applicability of your own legal system and your citizens rights can be vetoed at your patrons whim. As is the case here. Of course, UK no different or better.

No, you didn't . . . and no-one said he was . . . otherwise you wouldn't have shown your utter idiocy yet again. I guess you can be summed up in one word

Nope, he has not. He chose to hide out in an embassy until long past his welcome.

What's alarming about this fiasco, back in October the Americans told the UK court that Assange if convicted in an American court, could serve his sentence in an Australian prison.

The Australian govt haven't even agreed to this, no doubt another ploy to get him to a American prison

Julian Assange has a stroke in Belmarsh prison

Julian Assange has a stroke in Belmarsh prison: Fiancée blames extreme stress caused by US extradition battle

    • Julian Assange had a stroke in Belmarsh Prison, his fiancee Stella Moris revealed
    • WikiLeaks publisher, 50, is being held on remand in the maximum-security jail
    • It is believed the mini-stroke was triggered by the stress of the US court action
    • Stroke happened at the time of High Court appearance via video link in October

Julian Assange has had a stroke in Belmarsh Prison, his fiancee Stella Moris revealed last night.

The WikiLeaks publisher, 50, who is being held on remand in the maximum-security jail while fighting extradition to America, was left with a drooping right eyelid, memory problems and signs of neurological damage.

He believes the mini-stroke was triggered by the stress of the ongoing US court action against him, and an overall decline in his health as he faces his third Christmas behind bars.

It happened at the time of a High Court appearance via video link from Belmarsh in October.

A 'transient ischaemic attack' – the interruption of the blood supply to the brain – can be a warning sign of a full stroke. Assange has since had an MRI scan and is now taking anti-stroke medication.

Ms Moris, 38, a lawyer, said: 'Julian is struggling and I fear this mini-stroke could be the precursor to a more major attack. It compounds our fears about his ability to survive the longer this long legal battle goes on.

Did any Wikileaks disclosures cause deaths ? None that I am aware of.

Did Wikileaks disclose civilian deaths due to US incompetence or carelessness ? Yes....at the very least, that group of journalists...
