^^ there isn't much evidence of damming pre-1970 and i can find no evidence of Hyrdo power being used by China on the mekong before 1970 so i am willing to bet the main nfluence over the last 50 years is dams constructed since then.

^ i did see that.
OhOh as usual is trying to suggest that Beijing's action have no effect but he often fails to put the boot on the other foot and see it from anyone apart from China's perspective.
Do you mean the dams the Thailand built in last 50 years by Chinese? Can you name one?
Actually, the Chinese are now currently the best one in building of huge infrastructure projects, when realizing what all they had constructed within last 30 years on their own territory. So, it will not be very surprising if a not so developed country will ask them to build something for them. (Possible that some infrastructure projects also in a very developed country - how many $T given aside for the very publicised infrastructure? - will be helped by them )
Similarly, as the first biggest hydro power plants in Thailand were built with US help - I mentioned here my contact with the head of Thai organisation who had spent a lot of years in Boulder CO more than 60 years ago, learning on the old famous dam (Boulder Dam, later Hoover Dam) all the tricks that he could later apply on the Thai projects.
Also the majority of (non-hydro) power plants had been built exclusively by US companies (later no so exclusively), what we will conclude out of this fact?
BTW, will the Mae Kong flow be possible to divert to China?
The Chinese may suck out a lot of water from the Mekong for irrigation somewhere.....somehow.
If you want to see what the future holds for that region in India, look no further than what is happening downstream in the Mekong today.
General water abstraction is becoming a worldwide problem with boreholes draining aquifers and then sucking up and concentrating harmful chemicals like arsenic etc.
Try reading my post that illustrate how the Chinese people have worked together to gradually improve and EFFECT their lives. The alternative offer "me, me, me" has shot its bolt.
Except for of course the snuBS invincible CBG dinosaurs.
Quite the opposite I was in the industry for many years. The dams have been growing, in China especially, over as you suggest the last 50 - 70 years. They had centuries of neglect to make up. Along with hungry people.
What has changed is some showing concern for the many previously vassals of western countries UK, France ameristan, Germany, Spain., HOLLAND .... Rather than leaving them alone they even try to set those idyllic tourists spots in amber. These countries around the world are watching, joining up and developing as never before.
Thus, some try their hardest to push them back into their dependency colonial state. The ASEAN and central Asian countries are all ripe for development, rather than by extractive exploitation of their populations The west has plundered them for centuries, but proven alternatives and concrete examples are now available.
If those countries leaders and populations wish.
The world is a big place, with many opportunities and all with a variety of pressing needs.
There are now, alternatives.
A tray full of GOLD is not worth a moment in time.
^ RU haviing a moment?
The UK for one.
I presumed due to the title the thread would focus on China and India. Their relationship and regarding managing the water supply issues.
Others TD members introduced another geographical area and military actions. Which they believe are acceptable solutions:
None of whom have substantiated their allegations or the allegations of the source material.
The accusation that, China to leverage its .... without a single instance as evidence.
Look elsewhere in the world, and you will find countless examples of illegal wars, illegal sanctions and actual arm twisting or unsavoury actions torture even.
Should the thread be retitled "China Bashing 11/04/21?"
Strip out the bashing and self projecting actions, what is left?

Not at all, its early days yet. So far Chna has only started a few border incursions into India, now this posturing over a new dam, its warming up nicely which i assume is precisely Xi's intent. It wouldn't surprise me if China unearthed some clay tablet that suggests most of India was once under Chinese control and so they have a legitimate claim to most of the indo gangetic plain and eastern pakistan.

^ Funny you should mention that. The Communist Party just found an unadulterated map from 93.000 BC:
The map is currently not available or public viewing as the China's representatives wouldn't 'make shit up', said Dr Kani Nabu Ciao Cibai from the 'Magnificent People's Adornment of The Great China Freedom and Prosperity' bureau
.
good stuff all.
