So Ukraine is intentionally shooting at the biggest nuclear plant in Europe. Just like Russia has been saying for weeks.

Ukraine will target Russian soldiers at Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, says Zelenskiy – video | World news | The Guardian

Germany is shutting down all of its nuclear plants due to the nuclear boogeyman. And at the same time , providing weapons to Ukraine to shoot at the biggest nuclear plant on their continent. What a bunch of geniuses we have here.

Lying through your teeth as always.

    He said...

‘Every Russian soldier who either shoots at the station or shoots under the cover of the station must understand that they are becoming a special target for our intelligence, for our special services, for our army,’
That does not mean that they are going to shell the plant, which they have not done. For those of you that are too stupid to understand the statement it means that they will target the soldiers via unconventional means as in via special forces and intelligence services. Skiddy once again proving to be a Kool-Aid sipping imbecile.

Russia announces capture of strategic settlement in Donbass

Ukraine's Zelensky had described the situation in Peski as “just hell”

Russian forces have established complete control over the strategic settlement of Peski in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Russia’s Defense Ministry has said.
“As a result of the offensive by the allied forces [Russian troops and DPR militia] the settlement of Peski has been fully liberated” from the Ukrainian military, the ministry’s spokesman Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov announced during his daily briefing on Saturday.

Peski, located some 2km away from the Donetsk Airport, has been one of the main pillars of Ukraine’s elaborate defense line in the DPR.

The settlement had been heavily fortified since 2015. A DPR militia commander told Russia’s Channel One last week that the area had been turned into “literally one big garrison,” from which all civilians were evacuated long ago. All buildings in Peski are surrounded by trenches, while Ukrainian defenses had been set up in “according to NATO standards,” he pointed out.

The joint operation to seize the settlement began in late July and saw intense fighting and artillery shelling. In early August, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky described the situation in Peski and nearby Avdeevka by saying that “it’s just hell there. It can’t even be described in words.”

Meanwhile, strikes against Kiev’s forces and military infrastructure continued in other parts of Ukraine over the past 24 hours, Konashenkov said.

Among other things, a HIMARS multiple rocket launcher and a warehouse that stored munitions for it were destroyed near the town of Kramatorsk in the DPR, according to the spokesman.

More than a hundred Ukrainian troops and members of the nationalist Right Sector group were also killed in a strike near the village of Starye Terny in the DPR, Konashenkov added.

Radicals from the Right Sector played a key role during the violent coup in Kiev in 2014 and subsequently took an active part in the fighting in Donbass over the next two years.

That's gotta be twice as many HIMARs destroyed as have actually been sent to Ukraine, according to RT's previous reporting.

Haven't noticed any Ukrainian troops in Mariupol, Luhansk, Kherson city and so on recently. So clearly, not total horse manure. This particular fortress was a big capture actually. Looks like Donetsk has largely fallen to Russia and it's Donbas allies now.

Armed Forces of Ukraine hit Wagner HQ in Popasna, the photo of which was exposed by Russian war reporter – Russian channels
    SUNDAY, 14 AUGUST 2022, 21:04

Russian Telegram channels report on the attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the headquarters of the Wagner PMC [a network of mercenaries who serve as the de facto private army of Russian President Vladimir Putin] in the occupied Popasna, Luhansk Oblast, a photo of which was recently published by the Russian military correspondent.

Details: Reports of the Armed Forces of Ukraine attack on the Wagner PMC headquarters in Popasna appeared on Sunday in Russian telegram channels. A photo of the destruction was also published.

According to Radio Liberty, the telegram channels of Wagner PMC confirm the strike.

On 8 August, Russian military correspondent Sergey Sereda wrote about his visit to the "headquarters". He published a post on Telegram, writing: "Arrived in Popasna, stopped by the headquarters of Wagner PMC. They met me like family and told several funny stories."

According to Radio Liberty, one of the photos that he posted shows Yevgeny Prigozhin [a Russian oligarch who controls a network of companies], who is believed to be the owner of Wagner PMC, although he himself denies it.

These photos pissed off many pro-Russian commentators, as one of them shows a sign with the address of the nearest bomb shelter - Myronivska Street, 12.

Radio Svoboda analysed photos of houses in the area and concluded that the photo is indeed a house located at this address.

After information about the strike on Popasna, Sergey Sereda deleted his message about visiting the "headquarters", but numerous copies of it remained on the Web.

Most folk in Odessa speak Russian as their day to day language, aka 'lingua franca'. Likewise the east and south of 'Ukraine' in general. That is a fact. Doesn't necessarily make them identify as Russian, or Russian leaning of course- that is a different matter. No need to try again- a link perfectly valid was provided in a previous post, and of course GIYF.

They used to. But now they are too embarrassed and switch to Ukrainian.

‘Floundering, not drowning’: Russia’s economy is withstanding sanctions onslaught — for now

    Key Points
    • Moscow is working to recalibrate its economy in the face of a barrage of international sanctions imposed by Western powers in response to the war.
    • The Russian economy shrunk by 4% year-on-year over the second quarter, although this was less sharp than the 5% expected by analysts.
    • Although many economists are focusing on the long-term structural threats to the Russian economy – which the government and central bank are scrambling to counter – the more immediate collapse predicted by some has not come to fruition.

American Hegemony and the Politics of Provocation

American hegemony is now on life support. Intensive care specialists are still scurrying about trying to resuscitate the patient. Family and friends are saying he’s still putting up a fight. However, the undertakers of this dying order have already arrived, and are standing just outside the door: one is named Russia, and the other China. When the obituary is read we will learn that the deceased is survived by an older cousin representing a different order – balance of power realism.

As John Mearsheimer , the unipolar moment after the fall of the former Soviet Union was an absolutely unique period of history. At that moment, and for the next 30 years, America was the only superpower left standing. Francis Fukuyama’s vision of democratizing the world proved to be an irresistible temptation for Western foreign policy elites. So, the evangelists of this new world order set out to spread democracy throughout Eastern Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.

They used the existing architecture of cold war institutions like the UN, NATO, the EC, the WB, IMF, and WTO to spread liberal values, and to "addict people to capitalism." Blinded by their own idealism, they couldn’t imagine anyone would reject such a generous offer. After all, as President George W. Bush often boasted, "Freedom is in the heart of every individual." In other words, given the opportunity everyone would naturally choose to be free. Of course, this idea is an echo from President Wilson’s dictum, "The world must be made safe for democracy [emphasis mine]."

The Wilson doctrine, however, must be interpreted in light of the French thinker Jean Jacques Rousseau. Rousseau believed that "Man is born free, but is everywhere in chains." However, for Rousseau, the human predicament is such that people don’t always know for themselves what’s good for them. So, they need to be forced to be free by others who know better than they do. As Rousseau asserted, "Whoever refuses to obey the general will, will be forced to do so by the entire body; this means merely that he will be forced to be free."

Scarcely has there ever been a more accurate sentence written to describe the essence of American foreign policy in the post-Cold War era. America, has steadily been going about the violent business of forcing men to be free, and yet, they are everywhere in chains.

We need not look further than Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Yemen, and Iran, to see the failures of American foreign policy. What’s more, the foreign policy elites in America seem to be emboldened by their failures as they are now trying the same tired policies in Ukraine, and Taiwan.

Speaker Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, and the letter from Mitch McConnell and 25 other senators supporting her action, are the latest example of the liberal order’s politics of provocation.

It should be obvious to anyone paying attention that, rather than prevent wars, American hegemony creates wars where there were none. Indeed, America has been at war throughout the entire unipolar era, and Pelosi and others seem to want to provoke another war.

But things are changing, and they are changing fast. Russia is not the weak, anemic, nation it was 30 years ago. China is not the same poor country of the post-World War II era. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has put the American hegemonic project on notice, and it has almost single handedly exposed the expansionist aims of institutions like NATO.

This is why nearly all foreign policy types in Washington, the heads of international institutions and thinktanks are going apoplectic right now. Their order is collapsing, and their decisions and actions appear to be done in desperation.

It is a damaged gun that was left behind on the battlefield. The Russians cleaned it up and tried to make it look like they captured it intact. A normal M177 would never have to be propped up...
