Oh no, the Putin version will be that it was an impromptu, rousing firework display put on by loyal Ukrainians or some such bollocks.

    ^^

No confirmation in the report post #7881 (Ukraine war mega thread) , states the Ukraine military attacked the base.

The contrary to the title, is published in the Ukraine title,

    "Ukrainians Strike"

"An advisor to Aksyonov confirmed that explosions had occurred but declined to comment on the possible cause, Russian news agencies reported.

Viktor Andrusiv, a political scientist and former adviser to Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, wrote on the Telegram: ‘As you can understand – missiles with a range of 200-300km are already in service with us and are being used in our country."

Ukraine’s defence ministry said it could not determine the cause of the explosions but added, sardonically, that people should have regard for the rules of fire safety and “the prohibition of smoking in unspecified places”.

Maybe you turn around the corner and you take one in your chest and it'll sever your spinal cord and you can spend the rest of your life in a wheelchair. That's war! Maybe you step on a landmine and there goes your leg, you lose an arm, you lose eyesight. That's war! And we're talking about going to war. There better be a hell of a good reason for this. There better be a reason worthy of the sacrifice we're asking Americans to make. And you know, it's not just going to be Americans dying in this war; we're going to be killing Iraqis, by the thousands. I have to tell you, as a former Marine, I was involved with the worlds most efficient killing machine. We were the best led, best trained, best equipped warriors anybody's ever seen, and we are today. When we go to war we will slaughter those who oppose us, because that's what we do, and we do it better than anyone else. If you get in my way, I will kill you. You try hurt one of my marines, I'm taking you down. And I will continue to go until my government tells me to stop. We are the dogs of war and when we are unleashed there is nothing but hell. That's the reality of war. For God's sake, don't unleash the dogs of war unless there's an absolute necessary to do so.“

17.1 million stuffed ballots The elected officials who paved the way for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine weren’t really elected, according to video records obtained by Meduza

Days before Russian troops poured into Ukraine in a full-scale invasion in late February, 400 deputies in the State Duma voted to ratify an agreement on “friendship, cooperation, and mutual assistance” between the Russian Federation and the self-declared Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics. The document would become one of Russia’s formal justifications for its “special military operation” (though the pact didn’t take effect until after the invasion began). The lawmakers who endorsed the agreement won their parliamentary seats in September 2021, which were the first elections in a decade that weren’t streamed online using webcams. Russia’s Central Elections Commission said it lacked the funds to offer video transmissions at all polling stations. Direct access was limited to monitors from the parties participating in the elections, candidates, and the local election commissions themselves. Almost a year later, however, Meduza has obtained an archive of video footage from polling stations during those elections. A group of independent video monitors (whose names we are withholding for safety reasons) has analyzed the records and concluded that the number of stuffed ballots cast in September 2021 could have surpassed 17 million.

    Meduza’s key findings

Despite the reduction of video transmissions from polling stations in Russia’s September 2021 elections, Meduza obtained more than 1 million hours of footage from webcams installed on the premises of more than 9,000 local election commissions in 19 different regions across the country.

With the help of artificial intelligence (software based on neural networks called “Revizor,” i.e. “Inspector”), a group of independent monitors examined the video archive. Revizor cannot identify voters or determine how they voted, but it can count in the videos how many people voted at a particular polling station.

Footage from 3,505 of the polling stations was sufficiently uninterrupted and high quality to be analyzed using the Revizor system. According to official data, 3.2 million people voted at these polling stations, but the videos we examined showed only a little more than 2 million voters. In other words, roughly a third of the ballots cast in these precincts were apparently fake.

If we assume that this same pattern of falsification holds true nationally, the total number of stuffed ballots in Russia’s September 2021 elections surpasses 17.1 million.

Note: This is a brief summary of a much longer article first published by Meduza in Russian on August 12, 2022. That text is available herehttps://meduza.io/feature/2022/08/12...kto-ne-vybiral.

Agreed. I don't think they even want to, or ever planned to. It is Novorussiya they are interested in.

If you want the most sensible account of that, read Scott Ritter. Lets put it this way- the regiments there were awarded some Honor "Marshall of Russia" (not guaranteeing I got the name right).
The ill informed, largely unprotected tank convoys in the east in the early stages resulted in 15 Intelligence officers being sacked, including one arrested, and no Honors. Go figure.

Can't be, we're always reading here how the economy is booming and everyone else is suffering

Yep, that's my opinion- he wants the Russian speaking 'Russian' parts of Ukraine. Problem being, if Russia takes Odessa (even the street signs and menus are in Cyrillic there) it leaves Ukraine as a landlocked rump state. So hard to see a workable ceasefire, or peace.

If you want the most sensible account of it, use your common sense. An army invaded and got beat up and had to leave. If they were winning they would have stayed. Your favorite pedophile wasn't there either.
