It is apologising for nobody pointing out that Russia is winning this war- it is the obvious fact. Denying it does not alter the map.

Ukrainian officials on Saturday denounced a call by Russia's embassy in Britain for fighters from the Azov regiment to face a "humiliating" execution.

The Russian tweet came as Moscow and Kyiv traded blame over a strike on a jail holding Ukrainian prisoners of war in Russian-controlled territory that killed around 50 people, reportedly including members of the Azov regiment.

"Azov militants deserve execution, but death not by firing squad but by hanging, because they’re not real soldiers. They deserve a humiliating death," Moscow's diplomatic mission wrote in an overnight Tweet.

The post -- which Twitter said violated its rules on "hateful conduct" -- was accompanied by a video purportedly showing a couple in Russian-held Mariupol claiming they had been shelled by Ukrainian forces at the Azovstal metal plant during the fierce battle for the city.

"Russia is a terrorist state. In the 21st century, only savages and terrorists can talk at the diplomatic level about the fact that people deserve to be executed by hanging. Russia is a state sponsor of terrorism," Andriy Yermak, head of the office of the Ukrainian presidency, wrote on Telegram.

Would have been easier and more accurate to just say Putin is a terrorist.

    Pure terrorism

"Even after 8 years of uninterrupted Ukrainian bombardments on its families, the Donbass had not seen on the part of the ukro-Atlanticists such hatred and criminal cowardice, and I leave it to everyone to find in the lower depths of the vocabulary the worst insulting qualifiers to try to approach the nature of these rejects of humanity which have just once again spread by terrorist bombardment hundreds of antipersonnel mines in the heart of Donetsk. During the fighting for Lisichansk, the Ukrainian forces had dispersed in front of the advances of the Allied forces bypassing the city from which they were trying to escape. This zone pollution, carried out by artillery and drones in order to slow down an enemy progression is an acceptable military technique when it remains in the field of combat. But what we have been observing for a few days in Donetsk, where there is no urban combat or military objective in the city, is just genocidal terrorism
    .

    • On July 20, the "ukrops" disperse with 220mm "Uragan" rockets with cluster munitions on the western districts of Yasinovataya (sector of the railway station) more than 200 Pf1 antipersonnel mines.
    • On July 29, another new ukro-Atlanticist bombardment dispersing anti-personnel mines, this time on the "Textile" district to the west of the city center of Donetsk. 8 dead and dozens injured on this single day.

This July 30, 2022, in the middle of the night, Ukrainian 220mm "Uragan" multiple rocket launchers bombard the city center of Donetsk with cluster rockets which drop hundreds of "Tulip" mines, hoping to surprise the population on Sunday morning, when the children go to play in the gardens, the mothers go to the market, the families go to church or the lovers go for a walk in the sunny parks...'

"I recall here that this type of bombardment constitutes a multiple war crime:

    • Intentional bombardment of a civilian population (Geneva Convention, 1949),
    • Use of anti-personnel mines (Ottawa Convention 1997),
    • Use of cluster munitions (Oslo Convention, 2007). "

    "
The type of mine that has been dispersed since July 20 on the civilian populations of Donetsk and the surrounding area is the so-called "butterfly" PFM1 (also called petal or tulip) because of its winged and flattened shape. This is the Soviet copy of the American BLU-43 "Dragontooth" mine used against the populations of Laos during the Vietnam War. "

US miscalculations are now legion — but what to do now?

Adaptation — to a multipolar world in which Washington doesn’t always call the shots — is the first step.

    JULY 29, 2022
    Written by
    Ted Galen Carpenter

..... Washington needs to make some major policy adjustments, and perhaps even more important, learn some broader lessons needed to prevent a repetition of the current failures.

Crucially, U.S. leaders must understand that major powers such as Russia cannot and will not be intimidated. The Biden administration has acted as though pressuring Russia and ignoring that country’s security concerns is akin to the same strategy the United States has used against second or third-tier powers, such as Serbia, Iraq, Iran, Syria, and North Korea. Washington’s capitulation diplomacy has not worked well even in those settings; it has failed utterly with respect to a major power. Instead of becoming more realistic and flexible, though, administration policymakers have reacted with petulance. Only now has there been an announced meeting between Secretary of State Tony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov — the first since the start of the Ukraine war. This is not a healthy approach to dealing with a country that possesses several thousand nuclear weapons.

Finally, U.S. leaders must finally come to the realization that the world is multipolar politically, diplomatically, and strategically, as well as economically. The unipolar moment is long over, and the United States must re-learn how to operate in such a system. Washington no longer calls all the shots on important matters. The Biden administration must stop acting as though it does and adapt accordingly.

Well, it is in Russia's interest . . . whatever that may be, and why Putin invaded Ukraine.

So why did the Ukrainians bomb a POW camp with their new MLRS toy, killing 50 of their own Azov scum? Any opinions? Accident, or warning? Would have thought this system (or what is left of them) is better deployed against the enemy.

I'm sure Russia had many fragments to choose from, from all the other strikes by HIMARs. The buildings adjoining the prison would have been damaged had it been one. They weren't.
