Black teenage girl in Ohio '''shot dead by police''' as Derek Chauvin jury returns verdict - NZ Herald
"..A black teenage girl was shot dead by police just as a guilty verdict was returned in the case of the officer who killed George Floyd.
Family of the teenager, named by local media as Ma'Khia Bryant, 16, said she had called the police for help because girls were fighting outside her house on Legion Lane in Columbus, Ohio."
Can never work out whether backspit thinks he is being "edgy", or he really is that fucking dumb. Going to go with the latter.
One of the convictions carries a minimum recommended of 12.5 years. I cannot see the judge going below that. However, there are a number of aggravating factors (pretrial, I think prosecution listed 5) which are the ground for sentences to be considerably above the 12.5 years. It is worth remembering that NOW Chauvins past history of any similar assaults will come out.
Nobody can know what is going to happen before the judge decides, but my personal feel is that the judge will settle at considerably over the 12.5 years, albeit that he may actually serve less.
A point that has already been made elsewhere but if that woman--whose name escapes me right now--hadn't stayed there and videoed the entire incident then Chauvin would've gotten off. Highly unlikely there would have even been charges much less a trial.
This has been clear since Rodney King.
The current situation and the comments of Maxine Waters as well as President Biden during the trial could be grounds for an appeal.
The US still have a lot to learn about how to report cases before and during trials. Opinions should be off limits until after the verdict and sentencing.
All the same, I don't think there is any doubt that Chauvin was guilty as charged.
Some of you might have been resting at the time……
So tonight he sits in solitary confinement in the county jail. The first night of many years of confinement. He should have just lifted his fucking leg off that man's neck.
CNN reporting he is here.
Sentencing will be in 8 weeks
It will be another eight weeks before he is sentenced, Judge Peter Cahill said Tuesday. And while Chauvin had been out on bail since October, Cahill revoked Chauvin's bail after the verdict, so he will now await sentencing in jail.
Chauvin was transferred to the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Oak Park Heights, according to Minnesota Department of Corrections spokesperson Sarah Fitzgerald. The correctional facility is in Stillwater, about 25 miles east of downtown Minneapolis.
He is there through an agreement between the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota Department of Corrections, Fitzgerald told CNN.
The prayers of Joe surely have helped...
And of Maxine's?

"Different reporting"...
As he was found guilty on all three charges and very quickly at that - less than 24 hours to come to a unified consensus - it appears that legal experts are hinting at a few decades [without parole hearing] in the slammer.
First count - 40 years max.
Second count - 25 years max.
Third count - 10 years max.
The judge will probably average it all out and give the Klansman Chauvin 30 years minimum before any chance of a parole hearing.
Keeping in account the highly publicized and political/societal ramifications of this case, I couldn't see anything less.
The ideals of setting a precedent and sending a message is at hand.
Personally, I'd be terribly curious as to what facility he'll be sent to. Some prisons have nasty and brutal reputations, while others are considered a cake walk.
Unless Chauvin is protected by his Aryan brothers, in one form or another, I can't see his viable survival rate very promising.
Just as well.
Bit of a waste of money and effort to keep this type incarcerated -
