The case is nothing about the takedown. There is no doubt that the police in America can use considerable (even lethal) force in taking down a resisting suspect.

The case is about the continued use of potentially lethal force on a non-resisting, indeed even unresponsive suspect who was in handcuffs.

The officer knelt on Floyds neck for nine and a half minutes, without any let up or respite. The case will hinge on at what point, if any, did that kneeling move from "reasonable" to "unreasonable".

Personally, I think it will be found that it was unreasonable for Chauvin to continue to kneel on the neck of an unconscious man.

Chauvin also had an obligation to provide aid to Floyd, and that he also callously failed to do.

The head of detectives already testified the force used wasn't necessary . . .

They're talking 3rd degree murder, maximum 40 yers in jail.

He died of opioid addiction. The fact that he had a cop kneeling on his neck at the time is incidental. That seems to be the Defence case anyway.

Using that line of argument you’d be equally correct saying he died from being black

Floyd was well restrained by the handcuffs. There was no need for Chauvin to have his knee anywhere him. He's as guilty as fcuk. 40 years seems about right.
Here are a few harrowing recollections from some of the bystanders.

Been drinking the cleaning fluid again?

The autopsy report from Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office concludes the cause of death was "cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression."
Although I'm surprised they didn't rule it Covid since he had it.

Second-degree murder in Minnesota can be “intentional” or “unintentional,” which is the charge Chauvin faces, and is punishable by up to 40 years in prison if convicted.

Third degree murder would requirea lower standard of proof than second-degree. To win a conviction, prosecutors would have to show only that Floyd’s death was caused by an act that was obviously dangerous, though not necessarily a felony. That would result in a maximum sentence of 25 years.

Haven't paid too much attention to the trial.

How long is it expected to last/when are the riots due to start?

I can't imagine Chauvin doing that to somebody that looked like Chauvin.

I saw quickly that he had around a dozen previous complaints about excessive force etc.

I don't suppose any of those instances were against white people?

    Fun Fact!

Derek Chauvin and George Floyd once worked security shifts at the same nightclub
Both men worked security at the El Nuevo Rodeo club, down the street from Minneapolis' Third Precinct, former club owner Maya Santamaria told CNN.

You have proven more than once on this forum that you know very little about the law, the constitution or the bill of rights, so I think your opinion is worth basically less than zero.

The complaints are unknown for the most part, other than a few that were disciplined for bad language type stuff. At the same time he’s also got accolades for good policing. Mixed bag.

Out of the eighteen complaints, sixteen were dismissed, the other two were written reprimands.

One was for dragging a woman out of a car for a speeding offence; Malissa Borton, white, 2007.

The other complaint was made by Kristofer Bergh, a 24 year old white male in 2013.

This is why jurors are not supposed to know anything about the people involved prior to the case and not allowed to read media reports during the case.

We are all biased, no need to add to that bias.

Mind you, the guy is still guilty of using excessive force.

^ So all of the complaints from Black people were summarily dismissed? Figures.

Yes, that’s clearly the most logical conclusion.
