    Banana Farm Roster

This Year's CPAC Is Approaching the Wingnut Singularity

Jesus, what a banana farm. Did they pad the rostrum?

    By Charles P. Pierce (Esquire)

    Feb 26, 2021

I have attended three CPAC conferences in my life and I have regretted every damn one of them. All of them preceded the rise of El Caudillo del Mar-a-Lago, but all of them gave me a good inside look at the braindead and bullying politics that made him not possible, but inevitable. The first one was in Washington, and there was an Occupy presence on the sidewalk outside, and Andrew Breitbart, sockless drunk and waving a wineglass, jumped in the middle of them and started screaming, "STOP RAPING PEOPLE!" over and over again.

For all the current attempts by Respectable Republicans to distance themselves, this has been the conservative mainstream for decades. It was impossible for a Republican politician with plans for the future to skip it. (On my teevee this afternoon, Matthew Dowd confessed that what’s happened to his party might make him weep.) Quite simply, if you speak at CPAC, you are with the seditionists.

Here’s the speaker’s roster. I think we are approaching an unprecedented wingnut singularity.

    Florida governor Ron DeSantis
    Senator Mike Lee
Former governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker
    Senator James Lankford
Former Florida attorney general Pam Bondi
    Senator Ted Cruz
    Rep. Mo Brooks
    Rep. Madison Cawthorn
    Senator Tom Cotton
    Sen. Marsha Blackburn
    Rep. Matt Gaetz
    Sen. Rick Scott
    Sen. Josh Hawley
    Donald Trump Jr.

Jesus, what a banana farm. Did they pad the rostrum?
Majestically enthroned amid the vulgar herd

How many mainstream Republicans/Conservatives would be totally turned off by this group of paranoid and dangerous lying clowns?

I have several friends in the US (to be fair they are all in IT and live mainly in California) who vote Republican . . . but have switched or don't vote anymore. Disillusioned. How the hell did Trump get 70+ million votes . . .

I thought it was a humorous reply to your question rather than incomprehensible drivel.

First wingnut on that list to go down.

Republicans Have Been Waiting for a Matt Gaetz Scandal to Break

After Rep. Matt Gaetz accused a Florida lawyer of a $25 million extortion scheme to make sex trafficking allegations disappear, Republicans on and off Capitol Hill on Wednesday largely kept their mouths shut.

Gaetz—the Trump-loving, Fox News-grinning, 38-year-old Florida Republican—has a less-than-sterling reputation among his congressional colleagues. More than a half-dozen lawmakers have spoken to these reporters about his love of alcohol and illegal drugs, as well as his proclivity for younger women. It’s well-known among Republican lawmakers that Gaetz was dating a college student—one over the age of consent—in 2018. She came to Washington as an intern.

In response to these allegations and a question about whether he had ever had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old while in Congress, Gaetz told The Daily Beast late Wednesday night:

“The last time I had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old, I was 17. As for the Hill, I know I have many enemies and few friends. My support generally lies outside of Washington, D.C., and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

As for his few friends in Washington, The Daily Beast found that to be true. One former GOP staffer conveyed told us Wednesday that their office had an informal rule to not allow their member to appear next to Gaetz during TV hits, fearful of the inevitable scandal that would come out one day.

Rep. Matt Gaetz insists he’s “not gay” after revealing his 19-year-old “son” who he “loves very much”

After people took issue with his behavior for a number of reasons, the main one being that he tried to silence a Black man for talking about racism, the 38-year-old bachelor took to Twitter to claim he has a 19-year-old “son” named Nestor, who happens to be Cuban, which somehow proves he’s not racist. Or something.

Just for the record: Gaetz, who holds a 0% rating with the Human Rights Campaign and who opposed the LGBT Equality Act, has never been the legal guardian of Nestor. Nor has he ever commonly referred to him as his “son.” In the past, he’s called Nestor a “helper,” a “House page,” and a “local student.”
