Nah ... never going to fly, that idea.

Aussies would be still hung over from New Years Eve to get on the turps again the next day.

That said, the hard core might simply go with the hair of the dog

Oh ... another reason not to change the day ... my kids are born around this time and, as my mental facilities falter, a timely reminder when to have a beer with them AND remind them that they are 1/2 Thai and duty bound to abide with the Thai custom of honouring the parents by the children ... love that wee custom
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

^^ Maate, there are days just to lean back and feel good, Save the angst for later. I'll merrily join in too.

No sprogs, long story. Feel quite lucky for that now actually.

Hey, they even moved the Queen's Birthday (a few years back) because there wasn't enough Holidays in the second half of the year

Libby's actual birthday on 21 April

Sadly Gurrumul was lost to us in 2017 after a long battle with kidney and liver disease following childhood hepatitis.

    Doubtful.

The Lebos, Wogs and Abos would likely kick seven shades of shit out of them after calling up 50 of their mates/family to jump in.

Would have been nice is she got her facts correct.

The bit about "forbade us from speaking English and punishing us if we did".

To the Aboriginals living 'On Country' and in their 'Mob' ... English is usually a second/third/forth language they speak.

The bit about "took away our children" ... yeh, the Stolen Generation was a misguided move by the whites, devastating families but ...

"Between 1910 and 1970, government policies of assimilation led to between 10 and 33 percent " ... naught to do with January 26

    Stolen Generation ...
What happened and why? The forcible removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families was part of the policy of Assimilation, which was based on the misguided assumption that the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people would be improved if they became part of white society

Was Australia Day ALWAYS January 26? ... NOPE

"But it wasn’t until 1994 that Australia Day was declared a public holiday celebration on January 26, rather than the nearest Monday."

KW was correct (Aussies are Holiday Hogs), the Government used to move the day so that it aligned with a week-end, but, apparently, always on a Monday.

This is a good slide show (which I can't reproduce here) on 'Australia Day' ... Where did Australia Day come from? - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Yea, except you're woefully missing the point, but let's just take a closer look:

Fact - part and parcel of taking children and 'bringing them up proper like with whitey'

Excellent - so, which parcel of time are you talking about as you can easily be extremely pedantic (which you are being) and find ways to minimise or deflect . . . another true blue way.

So, let the government take them away and you'd never see them again. Go on . . . you can do it.

PH, if you can't see her obvious mistake, which I directed you to ... hey, no biggie

I'm not about to lose any sleep over it.

But, before you push the point ... re-read what she penned ... it's wrong.

Federation Day is January 1 - why keep the crap about the 26th going every year
So the 20% of the Australian population who has convict ancestry, is considered a tiny percentage ?

    ....... I’d like 20% of a million dollars.

Would not matter what was done to appease the indigenous Australian population, it will never be enough. Ask them what exactly it is they want and they cannot answer, so just keep throwing obscene amounts of money at them so they can do nothing besides be victimised forever.

Well, 20% is a number thrown around with little basis and includes early settlers . . . but I'll have

Wait for the story of the former Australian Champion tennis player, now a genuine Christian Preacher/Minister who is receiving an upgrade to her Australia Day Award and immigrant Transexual Doctor who is threatening to return her Order of Australia medal because the former Australian Champion tennis player speaks out against the LGBTQ Community.

Calling Black people "coloured" is offensive in this day and age , calling them Wogs" is probably illegal in some Countries as well as being rude, abusive and derogatory
    Actually ...

Calling Black people "coloured" is not usual in Australia, indeed, a Person of Colour POC is a foreign term.

Indeed, Australian Aboriginals are often 'White' or pale skin as the lady below demonstrates ...

Australia Day? Invasion Day? Survival Day or just 26 January?-11794482-16x9-xlarge-jpg

^ she spoke of her struggle to accept her identity as a proud Wiradjuri (Mob) and Anaiwan (Mob) woman from NSW

You see Paleo Robbie, you actually don't need any trace of Aboriginal blood in you ... you just need to 'identify' or 'feel' Aboriginal.

Calling Black people "coloured" is offensive in this day and age , calling them "Wogs" is probably illegal ... well, before you launch into another Nation's Cultural diversity, you need a basic understanding.

A "Wog" is a decades old term, rarely heard now-a-days and refers to a new Australian from Europe, usually southern Europe and naught to do with an Australian Aboriginal.

    Hope that helps you.

I dont know much about this issue , but that has never stopped me before, so ....
I don't know why there is even a controversy. if Jan 26 is a day commemorating the colonial arrival, is it not, undertenable that those who were colonised might not appreciate it?And would it not for the benefit of national unity be a good idea to stop doing it?
