One thing is certain. There will be recounts in Georgia. And challenges.

But at the time of this writing, with 96% of the votes counted, Warnock is far enough ahead that a couple of news sites have declared him the winner.

Ossoff and Perdue are statistically tied, but the remaining votes will be coming from heavily blue districts so that looks promising.

But there will be recounts and challenges. Because the trumpublican party is a collection of rabid sore losers.

However, I expect that these results will hold and the Democrats will hold all three branches for a while. We might actually get some work done.

2022 is going to be a difficult year, because the trumpublicans will regroup.

Tomorrow will be another trumpublican shit-show, with the possibility of domestic terrorism from the trumpublikkklan rabble.

But by the end of the day, Congress will have confirmed Joe Biden as the next president of the United States of America, regardless of how many enraged tweets come from the White House toilet.

538 Pundit on ABC saying with the 80,000 outstanding votes being heavily blue it looks very good for Ossoff and that Loeffler is toast. Putting it at 95% chance. Just a guess for sure, but one that gives a lot of hope.

From 538's election ticker. Looking pretty good, but could well be tomorrow.

CNN reports the following notable vote tallies are left:

    • 20,000 to 25,000 votes left in Fulton County.
    • 19,000 votes left in DeKalb County.
    • Almost 5,000 votes left in Gwinnett County.
    • 7,000 votes left in deep-red Coffee County in south Georgia.
    • 3,000 votes in Chatham County (Savannah).

So most of what is left is in pretty Democratic territory.

Are you confident that the potential 17,000 overseas votes (mainly military) won't affect the balance?

it will definitely be like night and day in many respects.

but let's remember what happened in 2008....there are a handful of dem senators who will water down progressive legislation....joe manchin and jon tester quickly come to mind.

Math David, 17,000 military yes, probably go Republican, but not at the rate the as the other 65,000 Blue votes that are also outstanding.

...the poor white trash military vote...almost certainly...but there is a significant number of minorities also defending our shores who might want to see a Jew in Georgia win...life is like a box of chocolates...

Some are going to bed. Again from 538.

    JAN. 6, 12:56 AM

We’re Taking A Break, But We’ll See You Early Tomorrow

Well, even though 98 percent of the expected vote is in, according to ABC News, we’re going to call it a night and check back in early tomorrow. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has said that not all of the vote will be counted this evening. He told CNN earlier that he expects that we’ll have a “better idea” of where things stand by noon tomorrow.
As for where things stand now? Warnock currently has a slim (nearly 1-point lead) over Loeffler, and Ossoff trails Perdue by less than half of a percentage point — or a few hundred votes. The races are, in other words, incredibly close, which is the main reason why we’re not getting a projection in either race tonight.
However, the vote that still needs to be counted is thought to be in mostly Democratic-leaning counties, as you can see in this map from The New York Times, so at this point, it seems as if the runoffs are the Democrats’ races to lose.
If this is accurate, this will be a historic election for Georgia — Democrats will have a majority in the Senate and Georgia will elect its first Black senator and its first Jewish politician to hold statewide office.

Maybe but at this point I would have to say blacks in general came out in huge numbers. No way this could have happened if they didn't, furthermore this could well embolden black voters all over the south. If it does the sunbelt could be in play in the future when you factor in the demographic changes that are already underway. That would be a major game changer.

*edit* Ossoff just took the lead by 3,000 votes.

As did everyone else. The first black senator in Georgia's history.

The racist rednecks will be enraged.

Ossoff is in front but only by 16,000 as of now.

    That's really close.

But e.g. they said they won't get to Military and out of state votes until maybe Friday. There's 50,000+ there I think.

They said the most that the military can be is 17k and that is a maximum. There are still quite a lot of votes left in the suburbs of Atlanta that skew heavily to the Dems.

Wow! Waking up to a Senator Warnock. Great news.

That’s after restless sleep thinking of how Warnock looks like J. B. Smoove. I will never be able to separate the two in my mind thanks to Ray.

Congrats and good morning miss kitty. As of a couple of hours ago when I shut off CNN it looked good for Ossoff as well.
