ATLANTA — More than 1.3 million Georgians have voted in two Senate runoffs taking place next month — a number that rivals the turnout at this point in the November election and points to intense enthusiasm in a pair of races that will determine control of Congress.
Democratic voters have an edge in the early turnout ahead of the Jan. 5 runoffs pitting Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler, a Republican, against the Rev. Raphael Warnock, a Democrat, and GOP Sen. David Perdue against challenger Jon Ossoff, a Democrat, a Washington Post analysis of Georgia voter data shows. But Republicans are closing the gap, and the current Democratic lead is slightly smaller than it was at this point in the general election.
The voter data offers little insight into which candidates may benefit from the early surge, with polls showing that the races are neck and neck. But the figures underscore the enthusiasm in both political parties. The results could determine whether President-elect Joe Biden can enact a more ambitious Democratic agenda or whether Republicans can block initiatives they oppose.

Democrats in Georgia Senate contests take in more than $200M
ATLANTA (AP) — The Democrats running for Georgia’s two U.S. Senate seats each raised more than $100 million over two months, a massive haul that eclipsed campaign contributions to their Republican opponents and reflects the high stakes of the twin contests.
Jon Ossoff, who is taking on Sen. David Perdue, took in more than $106 million from Oct. 15 through Dec. 16, according to his latest campaign finance report. Raphael Warnock, who is trying to unseat Sen. Kelly Loeffler, was close behind with a little over $103 million.
Perdue reported $68 million over the same two-month span, with Loeffler taking in just under $64 million. Three of the campaigns reported their financial data on Thursday. Loeffler submitted hers a day earlier.

considering the stakes, it's probably worth it....but it's an awful lot of money that could have been put to good use in the community if those two come up short.
FWIW, i'm not particularly fond of either of them....but you're a native....what do you think?
^ I think Ossoff would try to make changes in Washington to clean up the lobbyists. Don’t know much about Warnock but he seems a decent man. Both men I would rather see in the Senate than Perdue and that twat Loffler.
stacey abrams is given more credit than she deserves,
her and many other African American Leaders, failed to at the very least delay the BLM movement and the "Defund the Police" mantra until after the election, that gave trump ammunition and motivated his base, IMO without that the democrats would now also have the Senate.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.
one week to go, and the dems are bringing out the big guns...
Big guns to get out the vote. What it's all about as it was that gave Biden the win. Will be a close one as it was for Pres.
Big question for Republican candidates is also getting vote out. A difficult task given Trump has declared vote is rigged. Siding with Trump re $2k covid relief may help but could turn off many as it also sides with the tax n spend Dems.
"Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect,"
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - More than 2.8 million Georgians have voted so far in a U.S. Senate runoff election, according to state data published on Thursday about the closely watched race that will determine whether President-elect Joe Biden’s Democrats control both chambers of Congress and can more easily advance his agenda.
The figures, published on the last day of early in-person voting ahead of the Jan. 5 election, add to an already record-high turnout for a Georgia runoff, exceeding the 2.1 million ballots cast in a 2008 Senate contest.
The runoffs pit Democratic challengers Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff against Republican incumbent Senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue. The runoff was necessary because no candidate won more than 50% of the vote on Nov. 3.
Georgia’s surge in voting, including among Black voters who have historically supported the Democratic Party, suggest a competitive contest in a state Biden narrowly won in November.
About a third of the ballots accepted so far come from voters who identified themselves as Black when they registered to vote, up from about 27% in the November election.
The state releases information about the number of people who voted, but does not tally their votes until election day.
The outcome of the two races will be critical in shaping Biden’s agenda after he takes office.
If Republicans win one or both Senate seats in Georgia, they will retain a slim majority in the chamber and can block Biden’s legislative goals and judicial nominees. If Democrats win both, the chamber will be split 50-50, giving the tiebreaking vote to Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.
Early voting - both by mail and at in-person voting centers - appears high across the state, including in Republican areas.
Across more than 2,600 voting precincts in the state, county officials have accepted roughly the same number of ballots in precincts carried by Trump in November as in those carried by Biden, state data shows.

I am puzzled by some news coming from "unrecognized" sources, about a certain Jovan Pulitzer who chalenged the voting machines in GA. Even he claims in a hearing (but who can believe it?):
“At this very moment, at a polling locating in the County, not only do we now have access to the devices, to the poll pad, the system, but we are in. And it is not supposed to have wifi, and that is not supposed to be able to happen, So we've documented now, its communicating two ways, in real time, mean it is receiving data and sending data, should never happen, shouldn't be wifi, we've now documented it in real time, so we can shut down the data. But that is going on right there where everyone is voting. And, I just wanted to get it into the record.”
The subcommittee was impressed with Mr. Pulitzer's testimony. They voted to request that the Fulton County Board of elections allow examination of the paper ballots.
Why are you unable to recognize your sources?
Pro tip - when you Google this....
.... and Google says....At this very moment, at a polling locating in the County, not only do we now have access to the devices, to the poll pad, the system, but we are in.
.... the answer is "yes."Did you mean: “At this very moment, at a polling location in the County, not only do we now have access to the devices, to the poll pad, the system, but we are in."

Trump’s fight to overthrow election now falls to the guy who invented the CueCat - The VergeIn a hopeless attempt to overthrow or cast suspicion on an American election, a ridiculous cast of characters has heeded outgoing President Donald Trump’s call to misadventure — including, now, the inventor of one of the worst gadgets of all time. His name is Jovan Hutton Pulitzer, and yesterday he gave a poor imitation of a TED talk before the Georgia state senate, claiming that he has the ability to prove whether ballots from the 2020 election were real or fake. He introduced himself to a subcommittee of state senators as an “inventor and pattern recognition expert,” just before implying that he’s a titan even bigger than Apple and Google combined. “I’m on approximately about 12 billion devices globally,” he said.
Big help plus another good indicator Dems are getting it done.

misskit is our correspondent in the field on this ( ), but from what i've read online, you seem to be right.
but it would be a stunning upset if both dems won----this opinion is primarily based on results in past GA runoffs and special elections.
if i were a gambling man, i'd wager that both republicans win...within a percentage point or two.
but i'd probably also place a small hedge with warnock beating loeffler and perdue beating ossoff.
it would be so great if they both win. fingers crossed.
