HE'S THE MAN: US president Barack Obama.

Obama named Time's 'person of the year'

    Last updated 06:53 20/12/2012

HE'S THE MAN: US president Barack Obama.

US President Barack Obama has been named Time magazine's "person of the year" for 2012.
"We are in the midst of historic cultural and demographic changes, and Obama is both the symbol and in some ways the architect of this new America," Time Editor Rick Stengel told NBC's "Today" show, where he announced the selection on Wednesday.
The short list for the honour included Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teenager who was shot in the head for advocating for girls' education, as well as Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi, Apple CEO Tim Cook and Italian physicist Fabiola Gianotti.
Obama also received the honour in 2008, when he was President-elect.
In an interview with Time, Obama said his re-election "may have been more satisfying a win than 2008".
"We've gone through a very difficult time," Obama told the magazine. "The American people have rightly been frustrated at the pace of change, and the economy is still struggling, and this president we elected is imperfect, and yet, despite all that, this is who we want to be. That's a good thing."
Last year, Time honoured "The Protester," citing dissent across the Middle East that spread to Europe and the United States, saying the protesters reshaped global politics.
Time's "person of the year" is the person or thing that has most influenced the culture and the news during the past year for good or for ill. In 2010, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg received the honour.
Other previous winners have included US Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke, Bono and President George W. Bush

The criteria for selection as Time's Person of the Year is "the person who has had the most influence, EITHER POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE, on the world in the preceding year." Thus the selection of Hitler, Arafat, etc......

If Obama had been all white, instead of half black, would anyone even know his name today? I think not!

So you think he should have only been 3/5th of the person of the year?

In a press release explaining its decision, Times editorial board wrote, “Even though his quest for the Presidency was unsuccessful, Mr. Romney’s ideas about foreign policy, taxation, wealth inequality, and women’s rights typified the year 1912 as no one else has.”

In the USA if someone has a certain percentage of "black" genes, by law they are considered black and eligible for all the freebees blacks get (lowered standards for college admissions, passing the bar, etc.). I'm not sure of the exact percentage, but I'm pretty sure it is somewhere between 10% and 30%.

If he had played on his "whiteness" he would have never been elected to the senate, would have never been admitted to an Ivy league college and probably would not have become a lawyer.

It is so sad, that all the progressive liberals continuously insulted G.W. Bush for his IQ and referred to him as "curious George" (a cartoon character who is a monkey), but no one is even publicly allowed to question Obama's IQ or refer to him as a monkey! That is institutionalized racism at its worst!

Actually, The Man - Ronald Maximus was the guy who warned us against folks like Obama:

If the US doesn't recover the character represented by Reagan real soon, adios America...

    You may have a point-

Another overlooked legacy of Reagan: Gun control

As governor of California, Ronald Reagan signed the Mulford Act, which prohibited the carrying of firearms on your person, in your vehicle, and in any public place or on the street, and he also signed off on a 15-day waiting period for firearm purchases. After leaving the presidency, he supported the passage of the Brady bill that established by federal law a nationwide, uniform standard of a 7-day waiting period for the purchase of handguns to enable background checks on prospective buyers. He urged then President Bush to drop his opposition to the bill.

As reported in the media, after mentioning he was a member of the NRA, President Reagan stated the following at a George Washington University ceremony on March 28, 1991, marking the 10th anniversary of his near assassination: "With the right to bear arms comes a great responsibility to use caution and common sense on handgun purchases. And it's just plain common sense that there be a waiting period to allow local law-enforcement officials to conduct background checks on those who wish to purchase handguns." Enough said.

So when politicians wrap themselves in the Reagan mantle, which President Reagan are they hugging, the lifelong NRA member, or the common sense statesman?

White men clearly being seriously under-represented at Ivy League colleges, and in the senate and the professions.

Indeed he did. Don't suppose his strong support of the Brady Bill had any thing to do with the fact Reagan was also shot. Being shot could make a fella rethink things a bit.

Really. Would be interested to see statistics showing white males are "seriously" under represented.

White males in US are about 35% give or take. I would be surprised if their representation was much different in Ivy League colleges, the Senate or professions.

As far as the "professions" go white males have far more representation than you would expect.

“Fortune 500 boards were less diverse than Fortune 100 boards. Men held close to 85 percent of all board seats. White men dominated the board room, holding 77.6 percent of board seats. Minority men held 6.8 percent. White women held 12.7 percent. Minority women held 3.0 percent.”

That may be right but it would require destruction of the Republican Party and rebuilding it from scrap. Are you up to that?

Sorry. I was being sarcastic. Obviously, white men aren't under-represented in any of those areas and being black and having the name Barack Obama is quite clearly not an advantage in modern America.

Hats off to the man with the tan:-

Mr Obama is the first president to achieve the 51 per cent mark in two elections since the Republican Dwight Eisenhower, who did it in 1952 and 1956

the first Democrat to do so since Franklin Roosevelt, who won four consecutive White House races.

Mr Obama is the second president since World War II to win re-election with a jobless rate above 6 per cent. The other was the Republican Ronald Reagan in 1984.

Obama Says “Everyone Must Pay Their Fair Share” Then Sticks it to the Poor and Middle Class

Obama: Americans Need to Pay Their Fair Share - YouTub

Obama wants Americans to "pay their fair share" except for the 47% who pay no taxes.

Now we find out that under the new fiscal cliff plan workers making less than $30,000 a year will take a bigger hit than those making $500,000 a year.

There seems to be a real dichotomy going on in some folks minds.

Recall when Obama stated "You didn't build that" referring to his progressive agenda that it takes a collective to get anything built? Well, check out the following:

An overwhelming majority of Americans still believe that individuals are responsible for their own success, according to a new national Rasmussen survey.

The poll found that 86% of Americans believed success in life was determined primarily by the "choices and decisions" individuals made.

In addition, the same poll found that 88% of Americans believe that someone who makes good decisions will "enjoy a middle-class lifestyle" while only 10% believe that such a lifestyle was "not very or not at all likely" for those who worked hard and made good decisions.

These results prove Americans still stubbornly believe in self-reliance and upward mobility through individual initiative, even as the Obama administration tries to enact more big government programs--like Obamacare and the expansion of the food stamps program--that only serve to keep more Americans dependent on government.

Rasmussen Reports surveyed 1,000 Adults between February 23-24, and the margin of error for the poll was +/- 3 percentage points.

Poll: 86% Believe Individuals Make Their Own Success

Amongst what most would call "western nations" or 1st world societies America has the worst rate of infant mortalities.

America has the highest rates of Child Poverty

    Lowest life expectancy

    Highest diabetes rates

    Highest Aids AND HIV rate

    Highest obesity rate

    .........the list goes on.

Now, whilst all the Obama fans (15% of who voted for him declare having no interest in his politics by the way) wave flags for him as he bombs the middles east and spend Billions of money you do not have, there are real issues going on at home in the US that should be getting attention (Of course, all caused by the Republicans and Bush, let's not forget).

They are all the same. they don't care about the people of the US - the health stats above will kill more Americans that Iran ever will, but Obama will take us to war there later this year (Kissinger says it will be nuclear attack, and he's actually never wrong... I wonder why considering he is a close friend of Jacob Rothschild?).

    http://www.oecd.org/health/health-systems/49105858.pdf

Read it - then tell all your friends that voting Republican or Democrat is a waste of time. Stop playing their game. It's a distraction from what is really happening.

Developed country? Do me a favour, these days you rate with Panama and Somalia in terms of health.

This 'award' has become very skewed from that original premis.

Arguably Osama Bin Laden should have won in 2001, but it was just too sensitive. He couldn't win.

Since then there have been other odd but feelgood winners such as 'You' and 'The American Soldier'.

Giving it to the US President once every 4 years is an easy editorial call.

It's just about mag sales and ads now.

It's just a matter of time before 'gone off the Res' Bob Woodward has an accident befall him due to his honest telling of the sequester.
