Perceptions...... I have noticed what is considered "extreme liberal left" to many Americans would be considered fairly main stream middle of the road politics in most parts of Europe/Australasia.

That is just it. So many Americans like repeater do not realize how far to the right America already is compared to the rest of the world. There is but it is not dispersed via a network as broad as right wing media where you have several outlets spouting the same talking points verbatim. Also, many on the left are better educated and do not tend to be as susceptible to fake news/propaganda.
