Covid-19:- If there was a vaccine ... would you take it?

If there was a vaccine developed for Covid-19 ... would you take it?

Would it matter if the first commercially available came ...

    • from China?
    • from Russia?
    • from the USA?

Personally I worry that too many short-cuts might have been taken en-route to the vaccine's development.

    Even from the USA.

Remember, no Coronavirus vaccine has EVER been developed.
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

I'd take it but I'd rather not be among the first.

Unless I absolutely have to travel I think I will hold off and see if anyone grows a third ear or something.

    ^ ^^ ... yep, I'm a bit the same thinking myself.

^^^ NPT ... I'm a vacciner ... no dramas there ... just concerned too many short-cuts might have been taken.

My Boys have had all their recommended vaccines for age.

I'll take the Oxford vaccine if it proves to be successful. The trials for this one have involved humans for a little while now.

Yes, conditionally. Right now I feel relatively safe. Comparative to the crises occurring in Covid hot spots.

I have no intention of leaving my relatively safe haven in Thailand. I am willing to wait and forgo any international travel. So, I can wait until a vaccine is proved safe and reliable in the longterm before I get the jab.

If Thailand became a Covid hotspot and a vaccine was available I would get vaccinated. I am more concerned about the damage caused by Covid than the possible damage caused by a vaccine. Covid suffocates you, a miserable way to die.

Vaccines for most other viruses take between 5-10 years to safely develop. And the fact that virus manufacturers are not held legally responsible for damages to people who fall ill / die from side effects, I wont be running to the front of any queue for this one. I'll trust my immune system for the time being, thanks.

...if a new vaccine were approved by the FDA or a similar European agency (and widely distributed), I would get the shot...probably avoid the Chinese and Russian attempts as they would tend to hide the failures...

I'd be towards the back of the line for a proven effective vaccine produced in a reliable country. Would likely not go for a China, Russia or similar country manufactured vaccine unless talking last resort. In any case in the last few months as more and more symptoms and variability of which of them you can have has become understood, I've begun to think I may have already had COVID over the New Year period. (I even know which homestay guest I likely got it off.) At the time I put it down to flu but it was different to the flus I've had previously. Laid me low for four days and while it was an unpleasant experience, certainly at the mild end of flu I've experienced previously. But did have the chest tightness this time which I've not had with previous flus.

I have the same question, had an unusually long flu with dry cough in January after return from Chiang Mai.

But there are no antibody tests around here, and they are pretty meaningless in terms of travel anyway.

I heard that a if you take the Oxford vaccine you develop a British accent , start drinking tea with your pinky sticking out, and wearing a bollo hut.

I read where a vaccine will be approved in Russia by the end of this month and distribution will commence, with firs responders getting it first. I will wait a month to see the effects, if by that time Russians don't start acting strange (though how you cam tell I don't know) I will take it also. Da?
Then i will come to Thailand , got to Pattaya and start drunken fights!!

I didn't have the cough, nor nasal congestion/discharge of previous flus. Fever, headache, bad body aches (till I decided to take extra strong painkiller) and chest tightness. (The homestay guest I was in a car with for a couple of hours was very sneezy, steady nasal discharge and mild cough.) Have wondered about antibody tests as well but if it is not necessary to get one, won't do so. In any case I think even the best ones are still wrong 20% of the time at the moment.

Why not to trust the Russian vaccine when it is the same as the one from Oxford, isn't it?

He already told you why. And what makes you think it's the same as the Oxford one.

Same here, it didn't feel like a normal cold but not as bad a Flu either - trouble is the longevity of immune response is apparently very variable.

The Thais are fairly well along. Their problem will be in finding enough potential cases to put it in front of.

Did those suffering flu symptoms in January also lose their sense of smell and taste? I had a very dry throat and flu that kept me in bed over a weekend in late January. It got onto my chest enough for me to take cough mixture and decongestants. No loss of taste though...

I tick all the boxes mentioned above ...

I don't think getting the short very early is a concern. It will go to selected groups like medical staff first, then maybe teachers. Once available to the general public I would take it. I am not getting younger. This is the time I had intended to travel and the time I can do that is ticking away. I would get it as soon as I can and convince my wife to get it too.

As things are at my age and my health status I refrain from doing things I would love to do until vaccinated. I am in more than one risk group.

I think there is a lot of misinformation going on, it won't be a live vaccine it just designed to yield an immune response.

As a couple of people have said above, I also had an awful flu/bug/cold back in February that laid me out for a few days... headache, joints ache, cough, sore throat... and it lingered on for days, if not a couple of weeks. It was unlike any usual bug and I wondered back then if it could have been Covid, especially as I had recently had to travel to Singapore.

I've recently started work and had to take a Covid antibody test... which was negative.

While on this boat I've met up with an old Norwegian friend who I've known for 20 years. He was telling me about a friend of his who had Covid back in March in Norway. He was asked to, and regularly gave blood afterwards so that the antibodies could be harvested/studied. After three monrhs he was told not to bother giving any more blood as it no longer contained any antibodies.

I guess the inference is that long term immunity will be hard to achieve and you can certainly catch it more than once.
