Western Australia's Colonial Brewing Co considers changing name amid BLM movement

Western Australia's Colonial Brewing Co considers changing name amid BLM movement-12360470-3x2-xlarge-jpg

The Colonial Brewing Co in Western Australia is considering changing its name, amid the Black Lives Matter movement and international push to remove monuments recognising colonial figures.

    Key points:
    • An Eastern states liquor chain has stopped selling Colonial Brewing Co over its name
    • Colonial Brewing Co says the name was not chosen, or intended to celebrate colonialism and is reviewing options regarding a name change
    • The WA Premier said he thought a name change was 'unnecessary'

It comes after Melbourne bottle shops, Blackhearts and Sparrows, vowed to stop selling beer from the company.

In a statement, the liquor store said the use of the word 'colonial' was problematic

They should stand their ground FFS. Though it'd probably be the end of them but it's only words.
And changing words isn't going to erase history.

Emu Bitter is the drink of choice for our indigenous. They sure won't be changing their preference because a bunch of metrosexuals who brew their beer with fruit peel & exotic spices, change their friggin' name.

That well loved Aussie brand “Coon cheese” is now under fire as well.

Bit of a debate as to what the name refers to.

I must admit when I first arrived in Australia I was surprised at the name.

I reckon it's rubbish that the beer company is considering changing it's name, however ...

Probably a good idea this name change is being considered.

Kimberley’s King Leopold ranges, named after Belgian King Leopold II, responsible for deaths of 15 million Africans, to be renamed

WA’s King Leopold ranges, named after the Belgian King Leopold II, who was responsible for the deaths of up to 15 million Africans during the colonial era, will be renamed.

The announcement comes amid global protests in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

King Leopold II never visited WA and is not believed to have any connection to the state, other than having the ranges, in WA’s Kimberley region, named after him.

Queensland and Victoria will have to be renamed as well - too much of a reference to the old Colonial masters

Its farcical, there's a vocal minority of LGBTLibtardVaggies running around clutching their agenda which quite frankly no person with half a brain gives a fuk about, but here we are setting the world to rights one street name, cereal or statue at a time.

OK Chad, pearl-clutching over a beer you've never heard of previously that 'is considering changing its name' now also.

And why not, change has always got to start somewhere.

You might be happy with the status quo but that's because it benefits you but others not so much and I'm sure much the same 'nobody gives a fuk' arguments were trotted out by much the same people over things like the Civil Rights movement too.

So if you don't 'give a fuk' when you have rights others don't and find it all a little bit too disruptive for your liking that they would really rather prefer they had the same rights then that's just too bad. Move out the way, progress doesn't wait for anyone.

^^I'm not sure how 'progressive' these recent protests are, tbh. There seems to be a lot of pot-stirring going on that is designed to be divisive.

^^Sentences getting longer and more rambling.

    He's starting at breakfast again.

Funny how these 'things that don't matter' are always spluttered on an on about by the people who profess not to care about them.
