^Not sure what happened there.
I'll try and find a link that works.
They weren't, but it's been a myth for a long time
Fact check: Were Indigenous Australians classified under a flora and fauna act until the 1967 referendum? - ABC News
^^Yep, managed to access Noodles link (the non-dodgy porn loaded one ).
Seems it's similar to -- though the opposite of -- the whole Moriori myth in NZ which is still pervasive and persists to this day.
No, I don't think it is either shocking nor damming.
I think it is what it is.
Attitudes change with time.
The Politicians deemed in 1973 that Australia was ready to open itself to new ideas, new Cultures.

Ant, out of curiosity how do you feel about Japan, the Japanese Ethnic Purity?
According to census statistics in 2018, 97.8% of the population of Japan are Japanese, with the remainder being foreign nationals residing in Japan.
How do you feel about Thai's refusal for non-Thais to own land?
Surely that is a Racist Law?
Well then that's on you isn't it.Originally Posted by David48atTD

Regardless if your argument boils down to 'Well X Are Racist Too' then you are doing it wrong.
It's arguably more economically and protectionism grounded than anything else.Originally Posted by David48atTD
And again, is that really a benchmark you want to set.
I will correct myself there, its a lot higher, NZ has one of the highest incarceration rates in the western world against its people.

Hey Bro/s
Far anyone interested, here is the link required ... Fact check: Were Indigenous Australians classified under a flora and fauna act until the 1967 referendum? - ABC News
The claim
A regularly repeated claim in public debate is that Indigenous Australians were covered by a flora and fauna act, which did not classify them as human beings, and that this only changed when the constitution was amended following the 1967 referendum.
The verdict
Ms Clanton's claim is a myth.
Aboriginal people in Australia have never been covered by a flora and fauna act, either under federal or state law.
But despite several attempts by various people to set the record straight, the myth continues to circulate, perhaps because, as one academic told Fact Check, it "embodies elements of a deeper truth about discrimination".
uhm... in the link above New Zealand is number 145 in the alphabetical listing of countries - not a listing by incarceration rates.

IMO, It is not racism as much as it is an attempt by people to conserve their culture . I don't think there is one person here, that really thinks they are superior to others because of their race , but rather that they have developed a culture in their country that works for them , and they see that way of life threatened. IMO it is an important distinction that puts the situation in proper context and creates a path forward towards finding real solutions, instead of a class warfare that those smart operators on either side exploit for personal gain.
Culture is not static, it is always changing. Culture in Australia for instance was not the same 20 years ago as it was 100 years ago , but it changed is a predictable, incremental and evolutionary manner where new fads emerged from new influences that arrived , the ones that worked with in the cultural context are adapted, and the ones that don't are rejected. Now with the advent of easier travel, telecommunications, and mass dislocation of populations do to a new world order, the process has accelerated forcing changes outside the cultural evolutionary norm, and people are reacting.
So to put it in a way more akin to this forum . You all are a bunch of fookups , happy to be putting shrimps (sorry prongs) on the barbie , and drinking beer, and a bunch of other fookups from elsewhere want to come here and toast falafels on your scrimp barbie!! and what's worst the fookers don't even drink beer!!
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.
^^ is that a long-winded way of saying you want another British injection, we've still got loads of criminals but you'll be pleased to learn that they won't upset your diversity balance.
