It really is worrying and remarkable the amount of full blown racists that post on this board.

AO ... maybe a generalization?
Racism and what is racist, IMHO, varies from country to country, race to race.

I love my Footy, two of my favorite players are Aboriginal. Both played for their State and for their Country.
One was a complete wag Johnathan Thurston, the other much more serious Greg Inglis ... both appealing as role models.
Then we had Adam Goodes, an Aboriginal, a talented Player, but a dick.
He got a lot of crowd noise to remind he's a dick.
The Media got hold of it and said it was Racism.
That I was Racist because I booed him.
No, I booed him because he was dick, plain and simple.
If he was a blue eyed blond, still would have booed him.
But the media was relentless, claiming it was racism ... they were, in effect, telling me what I was thinking, feeling and interpreting my actions.
David you're wasting your time, the dick heads just presume everyone is racist as the media tells them what to think.
They/he even made a movie about/on him.

The documentary uses the experiences of former AFL player Adam Goodes to examine racial politics in Australia and is one of the best-reviewed, most-publicised Australian films of 2019.
When the credits rolled on The Australian Dream after its premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival, it was met with a 10-minute standing ovation.
Jump a few weeks ahead to when the film opens in Australia and it ranks 12th at the box office on opening weekend.
So, with all this publicity and hype and the "10-minute standing ovation" ... it flopped
What happened?
Box office earnings never define a film but it's still a loose measure of the public's interest in a topic, especially if it's a documentary.
A lot of variables factor into what people decide to see at the cinema, made trickier by the dominance of streaming services and the comfort of home, but many local filmgoers were not eager for The Australian Dream.
Me, as soon as I saw the protagonist was Adam Goodes ... Meh.
Probably we will all get called racists because we didn't pay our hard earned to watch the movie.
Nope, we didn't bother because it was Adam Goodes ... but the media will never get that.

This also is where it gets tricky with 'Racism' in Australia ... as in no bias based on Colour or Creed.
Who or what is an Aboriginal?
Meet Shirleen Campbell. She is a late 30's aboriginal woman.
Meet Angela Dos Santos (below), also a late 30's aboriginal woman who traces her Indigenous heritage back to Gumbaynggirr country. (Her Tribe/her Mob)
As thousands of Black Lives Matter protesters marched through the streets calling for justice and better treatment for Indigenous Australians, Angela Dos Santos was at home feeling "torn" and "frustrated".
So, back to the question ... Who or what is an Aboriginal?
Well, you'd assume that there would have to be a 'blood link' ... yes?
No ... you just have to identify as Aboriginal and be accepted by your 'Mob'
So, you can easily be a blue-eyed blond and be an Aboriginal.
Unless Angela Dos Santos told you she was 'Aboriginal' ... I, and many, would be none the wiser.
Fairly hard to discriminate against Angela Dos Santos based on Colour or Creed.
As mentioned a few posts above, what is regarded as Racism varies widely from Country to Country, Race to Race, Individual to Individual.
David do you think racism towards aboriginals exists in Australia? That is a simple question. Not do you, but do you think it exists?
Good question.
So, in an Australian context, define 'Racism' as an Aboriginal would experience it and who is being Racist?
AO, be mindfull that ...
In 2016 nearly half (49%) of all Australians were either born overseas or had at least one parent who was born overseas. More than a quarter (28%) of the Australian population were first generation Australians (born overseas).
Have you seen Terry post his views on the aboriginals? That is my answer. He gets applause and back up when he posts. But I am not getting into this boiling pot mate...

Work backwards until you get to the White Australia Policy, keep going until you find Aboriginals classed as 'flora and fauna', don't stop until you reach first settlement.
Vagina, dodging the issue again, tries to incriminate people, though doesn't provide any facts.
AO in answer to your question I would hazard a guess and estimate that at least 80% of Aussies see Aboriginals as a lesser race.
A musical interlude, stay tuned folks for ...
It's a common refrain in the whole NZ v. Aust trans-Tasman banter thing to point out just how racist, blatantly or casually, Aussies are.Originally Posted by Iceman123

Ok but that wasn't really the point.Originally Posted by David48atTD
It was still an overtly racist policy and -- as you note -- the fact it took until 1973 to be repealed is actually equal parts shocking and damning.
Shocking as this bit of news will undoubtedly seem to you, but it's actually possible to consider multiple things simultaneously and focusing on one at any given time does not preclude the other.Originally Posted by Chico
I'm certainly no expert on the subject but this comment interested me. Are you sure that this was the case? It appears it may be false.
