Well I missed this thread. Some real dense old coots who like to cling to the past. Lets start with this...
No we would not be speaking anything other than what we are currently speaking. To start the French helped us defeat you twats in the Revolutionary war. That's right the French helped us to kick the literal shit out of you sad sack Brits. I can not underscore it enough we decimated you on the field of battle.
We crushed the Mexicans too thereby stopping the Spanish language incursion. With regards to the Sioux well just reference the Sioux Wars something you clearly know nothing about. A hint they lost just like you lot and the Mexicans did. We smashed you all to bits.
Enjoy...
See the Americans have never lost a war.
Yes, the French did help merka win the War of Independence- we were a bit tied up by a bloke called Napoleon closer to home. So congrat's, you got your independence- and this bunch of British settlers now called Americans carried right on with the British style legal system and system of governance. To your eternal credit. But had we not settled the place, us nawty Brits, are you saying you would still be speaking English? No, you wouldn't.
Incidentally, you tried (and failed) to take Canada too. And lets not even mention our little BBQ in Washington!
P'ssst- The Patriot is not history- it's a Hollywood movie. What next- Braveheart?
^ S'hhh, don't mention the War of 1812.

Sabang you have to remember Snub thinks movies are the real history, as he knows it.
That is were you are wrong. By the time of the Revolutionary war many other european nationalities poured into America most notably the Germans. I should know my ancestors where German immigrants who fought in that war. Your sheer arrogance and pure ignorance of American history is not surprising as I have found that most of you on TD are completely clueless and you are just proving that to be the case.
The fact is we whipped your colonialist ass and that hurts your old boomer ass. Get some bitch.
Once again you post up absurd court jester level nonsense you utter imbecile.
So the 13 colonies were settled by the Germans? So why aren't you speaking German then?
I'm afraid the war of independence means about as much to me as the war of 1812. But it obviously means a lot more to you.
In 1812? Perhaps I'd better go watch Hogans Heroes again, to get a dose of real Hollywood history.
No, I think you are butt hurt because we spanked your botty real good in the war of 1812, and even burnt down your Capitol. But I wouldn't be- most Brits have never even heard of it I wager. It was just a punitive expedition in our rich history, one among many. And the "Revolutionary War", sorry to tell you, was really just seen as an annoying distraction from the far more important Napoleonic Wars. Most of our military was there, you know.
What is important is that the US did rather well, assisted by the fact it adopted and adapted the British legal, parliamentary and civil service system post independence, and it's lingua franca was, and remains English. Which is surprising in a way, now that you've told me it was settled by Germans. Shame you've become a rogue nation this century, but I'm hoping that will right itself. Is that because of the German influence?
In terms of colonial legacy, as I've said I think we were the best at it. That's all- nothing else really needs to be said, unless you can find another nation with a better legacy, in terms of the trajectory and prosperity of it's ex colonies.
Snubby don't eat the shit, leave that to fat bastards like yourself.
snub some facts for you.

Oh, is that what I do? This s a thread about nostalgia about empire and colonialism, so I guess it's logical that the topic wood be . . . colonialism, imagine that.
I'm not Thai, so why would I do that?
Again, why would I do that? Australians weren't colonists of Australia, Brits were, you have your history a but back-arsewards . . . plus if a discussion about Brit colonialism upsets you so to tell me to 'go back to .....' or 'revoke your citizenship...' then that's a bit sad.
^Way south of the border e'hhh, thank God! So back to my original point, when it comes to colonial legacy I don't think Brits got much to be shamed about- and I can't help rubbing it in when people who in fact are a beneficiary of this colonial legacy, try to suggest otherwise. I think we were the best at it. A product of the times, but it's effects were quite important in shaping the world as it is today. Guess you could say the same about WW2. That doesn't make it all good.
