Thread: Enough about Global warming. What are you doing about it other than talk?

I thought it would be interesting to find out what TDers are doing to lower their carbon footprint.
For myself, I am cutting down on meat consumption although I have not cut down much on dairy as yet.
I do not have heating as winter in QLD is bearable without it. I use minimal hot water and mostly cold water for showering.
I recycle as much as possible and buy products in glass when I can. I reuse plastic bags and use paper bags.
I use my car only when necessary which has cut my car fuel consumption (allowing for my increased motorcycle consumption) by about 60%. I use a bicycle for short trips and motorcycle on longer ones.
I am currently getting quotes for a solar electric system. I repair rather than replace electronics and white goods, mostly I do my own repairs including repairing clothes rather than replacing where possible.
I have a low water use dishwasher and clothes washer. I do not have A/C and only use ceiling fans, although I have designed a refrigerated air conditioning system that uses solar power in the day for cooling at night and hot water heating in the day. (Anyone who is interested I will share my design) which I will install after the solar is fitted.
I will be fitting a 4.5 kilowatt system which is restricted due to my roof size which will meet my needs and will feed back into the grid. I do not have any gas appliances at all so hopefully I will be carbon neutral or possibly carbon negative in houshold energy consumption. I use rain water for the garden and toilet.
I still have a way to go, but I have cut my carbon footprint substantially in the last 7 years.

What I don't do:

Procreate
Drive to work
Feel even a single iota of guilt about being carbon neutral or flight shamed.

I drive faster on my daily work commute, costs me more in diesel but the few minutes I get to work quicker equals less time on the road pumping out pollution.

I wait until midday now before I close up the house and turn on the air conditioners.

This New Year-
Ive bought a bigger engined gas burner because the fuel is half the price of Thailand here.
Booked a couple of flights on a jet engined plane instead of a turbo prop because its faster
Started smoking more
Bought a load of facemasks
Dumped a load of plastic and white goods in Pattaya and North East Thailand and currently in the act of replenishing it all.
Started buying loads of imported Aussie meat and groceries because of the free trade agreement
Bought a 16 tog quilt to stop me freezing at night from the aircon set at an English summertime 16 degrees
Started farting a lot more due to the cheap availibility of Aussie Heinz beanz.

I'm going to hell in a handbasket, but I'm gonna be cremated first and should really fly to Oz and back to acclimatise to the temperature

I missed breakfast today, 2x53 gallons water for the two eggs, 22 gallons for 2 slices bread, lektric for toast and boil, shrooms + gas, cheese, butter and toms, wear and tear, washing up incl detergent etc, ok I haven't quite saved the world but the day is young, might forego lunch as well.

Nothing.

I'm praying for no more volcanic eruptions, nasty things spewing CO2 everywhere, also doing what I can to encourage cloud cover to help stop "climate forcing" nasty sun! Also bought some magnets to do my bit to stop the magnetic shift

I'm gunna punch my car and van around Arsetralia on a 20 K road trip and drive at 110 KPH instead of my usual 115 KPH.

That's will save maybe 2.5 fookin trees.

Anyway Global warming is so yesterday init.

It's the Yellow Filth who are gunna kill us all and the planet now init.

I re-use plastic bags but some of the shops in Thailand are making that very dificult for me these days by not providing me with bags to re-use. I have a couple of non-plastic bags that I use when I remember to take them with me. The overall effect is that when I shop I am buying less stuff so that it fits into my bags.

Consuming and accumulating just for the sake of the acts.
Wasting and squandering needlessly.
Exist in deluded and rhetorical circles.

My part is saving water.

Depending where I am, if at home I piss outside down the drain( I think every home should have a pissing drain)

If I'm in a Hotel room I piss in the sink.

Yes, I use reusable shopping bags. I have about 100 of the fuckers because I keep forgetting to take them.

FIL has made us all "shopping bags" out of empty 16-16-16 chemical fertiliser bags.

I'm offsetting my Carbon Footprint by spreading Caronavirus to c30 people a day, i was going to go Carbon negative but could be arsed to go to a supermarket today.
