Funny how, when the shoe's on the other foot, diplomatic immunity suddenly becomes sacrosact:-

Britain has scolded the United States for refusing to extradite a US diplomat's wife who was involved in a car crash that killed a British teenager.

"I called the US Ambassador earlier to express the government's disappointment about this decision," Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said.

"We feel this amounts to a denial of justice, and we believe Anne Sacoolas should return to the UK," Raab said. "We are now urgently considering our options."

Dunn's family has said Sacoolas was driving on the wrong side of the road at the time of the crash near an air force base in central England used by the US military.

British prosecutors requested the extradition of Sacoolas over the crash in which 19-year-old Briton Harry Dunn was killed while riding his motorbike.

"At the time the accident occurred, and for the duration of her stay in the UK, the US citizen driver in this case had immunity from criminal jurisdiction," a State Department representative said in a statement on Thursday.

"If the United States were to grant the UK's extradition request, it would render the invocation of diplomatic immunity a practical nullity and would set an extraordinarily troubling precedent," the statement said.
    US denies Britain's extradition request

Such amazing hypocrisy. Can they even lie straight in bed?

Now It's 64: Wounded US Troop Count From Iran Attack Still Growing

It appears these injury count updates out of the Pentagon are set to become a weekly thing. But it's of course worth recalling it all began with a "zero" injury and casualty count. By middle of this week the count jumped up to 50 troops injured in the Jan.8 Iran ballistic missile strike on Ayn al-Asad Airbase in Iraq. As we noted Wednesday the figures wentfrom zero to 11 to 34 to 50... and who knows where from here.

    But here's the new figure:
The Defense Department said Thursday that 14 more U.S. service members have been diagnosed with traumatic brain injury since the Iranian missile attack targeting U.S. forces at two Iraqi bases this month, bringing the total number to 64.

The Pentagon said that at this point most are considered “mild traumatic brain injuries” but that the numbers are expected to grow further.

"All of those people were screened, and we've got a certain number, and then the number's growing," said Army Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The Pentagon has repeatedly claimed the "concussion-like symptoms" didn't immediately present themselves.

In the days following the 'retaliatory strike' avenging the death of Gen. Qassem Soleimani, Iranian state media claimed dozens of casualties were "immediately transferred out of the airbase by helicopters." Specifically Mehr News had claimed some 80 US troops were killed in the attack.

While the Pentagon has denied there were any troop deaths, it's clear that injuries sustained by the missile impact were far more substantial than initial Pentagon and US administration statements.

To review, Trump's first address to the nation following the major unprecedented attack on US forces in the wake of Soleimani's death indicated "no casualties" and that "all is well!".

Two weeks later, the Pentagon stunned reporters by indicating 11 US troops actually suffered traumatic brain injury (TBI). In that time Trump also dismissed the reports as some troops having mere "headaches".

The official 'brain injury' toll has continued to shoot up from there — it seems now on a weekly basis."

(wondering what such a man do in USA and how did he enter?)

Alleged leader of Iraqi al Qaeda group arrested in Arizona

(Reuters) - A man accused of killing two police officers while acting as the leader of an al Qaeda group in the Iraqi city of Fallujah was arrested in Phoenix, Arizona, federal officials said on Friday.

Ali Yousif Ahmed Al-Nouri, 42, is wanted in Iraq on charges of premeditated murder of the Iraqi police officers in 2006, according to a statement by the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of Arizona.

An Iraqi judge issued a warrant for Al-Nouri’s arrest and the government there issued an extradition request to the U.S. Justice Department, the statement said.

The Justice Department sought an arrest warrant for Al-Nouri and he was taken into custody on Thursday in Phoenix.

He appeared before a federal magistrate judge in Phoenix on Friday in connection with proceedings to extradite him to Iraq, the statement said.

According to the Iraqi government, al-Nouri was the leader of an al Qaeda group in Fallujah which planned operations targeting Iraqi police.

The statement noted the details in the Iraqi complaint were allegations that had yet to been proven in court.

Al-Nouri’s extradition would have to be certified by the U.S. court and the U.S. Secretary of State would then decide whether to surrender him to Iraq, the statement said.

It was not immediately possible to contact Al-Nouri for comment or determine whether he had hired a lawyer.

The statement did not provide information on when Al-Nouri entered the United States or how long he had lived in Phoenix.

Iran reveals what was in Qassem Soleimani’s letter the night he was assassinated
    2020-02-04

BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:00 P.M.) – Erj Masjedi, the Iranian ambassador to Iraq, revealed the content of the message carried by the late commander of the Quds Force Major-General Qassem Soleimani before his assassination.

“The reason why Soleimani came to Iraq is to deliver a message that represents Tehran’s position on the Iraq initiative,” Masjadi said.

The ambassador said in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency (INA), “The message included Iran’s vision in combating terrorism, spreading peace, security, love, and achieving stability and security in the region.”

“Tehran welcomes Iraq’s role in seeking to resolve outstanding issues between Iran and Saudi Arabia and regional issues,” noting that “the Iraqi government has played a constructive role in the region and we welcome any effort to reduce tension.”

The ambassador pointed out that “targeting the American forces at Ain Al-Assad Base was a similar response because the United States assassinated the two martyrs Soleimani and Al-Mohandes on Iraqi soil by using their bases at the region level.”

He stressed that “choosing the Ain Al-Assad Base as a target for the response does not mean violating Iraqi sovereignty.”

He continued, “The American bases in Iraq had a role in the crime of assassinating Soleimani.”

The ambassador said that “the planes that targeted Soleimani and Al-Mohandes were not launched from America, but rather from bases within the region and chose Iraqi territory to commit this crime.”

Masjedi added that “the United States does not accept the presence of those who violate their policy, therefore they assassinate it,” noting that “if other governments do not want to respond to U.S. policy, Tehran will not be silent about its right.”

This appears to be the sentance from the diplomat's letter. Every thing after is regarding the base attack.

This statement appears to be similar to THE LORDS statement regarding attacking "Where the attacks were delivered, planned and ordered from."

Which, if global delivery is available, means Iraq, Europe or the "unexceptional" place, or all three.

Another one bites the dust ? Sure hope so

Was Iranian IRGC General 'Siamand Mashhadani' killed in US airstrikes?

The name “Siamand Mashhadani” may be a nickname, code name or kind of Arabic kunya war name because it is not a common name.

US airstrikes carried out in Iraq just after midnight on Friday may have killed an Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps general supposedly named Siamand Mashhadani.

Well, if you were a Terrorist, surely you would fight the people fighting Terrorism too? And lie, cheat, commit atrocities, ignore international rule of law and so on- because after all, you are a Terrorist too. When "We"() do it, it is called asymmetric warfare. Oh, and our victims are collateral damage, not innocent civilians. Except when it becomes Us, of course.

So, when your newfound allies move into your home town, I hope you really enjoy it. But don't come crying to me. I just believe in eliminating them and their vile diabolism of religion, not being their mates.

U.S. grants Iraq shortest sanctions waiver yet for Iran gas

BAGHDAD: The United States granted Iraq a 30-day waiver Thursday to keep importing Iranian gas despite American sanctions, two Iraqi officials told AFP, the shortest extension yet.

The U.S. slapped tough sanctions on the Iranian energy sector in late 2018 and has granted Iraq a series of waivers, usually for 45, 90 or 120 days.

Baghdad relies on gas and electricity imports from its neighbour Tehran to supply about a third of its power grid, crippled by years of conflict and poor maintenance.

"This is the final extension," one source at the Iraqi president's office told AFP.

The source said Washington had been frustrated that Iran was meddling in the government formation process in Iraq.

Adnan Zurfi, who has had close ties with U.S. officials since the American-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, was nominated on March 17 and has a month to pull together his cabinet.

"The U.S. did not want to put Zurfi in a difficult position by not renewing the waiver," a second senior Iraqi official told AFP, confirming the 30-day extension.

The official said Baghdad had prepared a checklist at the beginning of the last 45-day waiver period of ways the country could decrease its reliance on Iranian oil.

"But we haven't been able to accomplish any of them because of the circumstances," the source said.

Iraq has been hit by a cocktail of crises in recent weeks, including the government formation stalemate, collapsing oil prices and the novel coronavirus pandemic.

OPEC's second-biggest producer relies on crude exports to fund more than 90 percent of its state budget, but the crash to a price of under $30 per barrel puts it in jeopardy.

The COVID-19 virus has also spread across the country, with nearly 350 confirmed cases and 29 deaths announced by the health ministry.

U.S. imposes fresh Iran-related sanctions despite coronavirus

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States blacklisted five Iran- and Iraq-based companies and 15 individuals on Thursday for supporting terrorist groups, its third round of sanctions on Iranian targets in the last two weeks even as Tehran battles the coronavirus outbreak.

In a statement, the U.S. Treasury Department accused those targeted of supporting the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and its Quds Force elite foreign paramilitary and espionage arm and of transferring lethal aid to Iran-backed militias in Iraq such as Kataib Hezbollah and Asaib Ahl al-Haq, all of which Washington deems foreign terrorist organizations.

The Pentagon blamed Kataib Hezbollah for a March 11 rocket attack that killed one British and two U.S. personnel in Iraq.

U.S. officials say they plan to keep sanctioning Iran to try to force it to curb its nuclear, missile and regional activities despite the coronavirus outbreak, which has killed 2,234 people in Iran.

Treasury accused those designated of “malign activities” including selling Iranian oil to Syria, smuggling arms to Iraq and Yemen and backing Iraqi militias that attack U.S. forces.

The sanctions freeze any of their U.S.-held assets and generally bar Americans from dealing with them.

The five targeted companies are Mada’in Novin Traders and Reconstruction Organization of the Holy Shrines in Iraq, both of which are based in Iran and Iraq; Bahjat al Kawthar Company for Construction and Trading Ltd, also known as Kosar Company, and Al Khamael Maritime Services, which are both based in Iraq; and Middle East Saman Chemical Company, which is based in Iran.

The action also blacklists 15 individuals who are associated with the companies or officials of the Quds Force and Kataib Hezbollah.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif urged the boycott of U.S. sanctions, though it was unclear if he was responding to the latest actions. “Does the US want a ‘forever pandemic’? Moral imperative to stop observing the bully’s sanctions,” he tweeted.

Humanitarian supplies are exempt from sanctions Washington reimposed on Tehran after President Donald Trump abandoned Iran’s 2015 multilateral deal to limit its nuclear program.
