    Key Points
    • The Pentagon said in a statement that three locations in Iraq and two in Syria were targeted by U.S. forces.
    • The locations included weapon storage facilities and command and control locations that the Iranian-backed Shi’ite Muslim militia uses to plan and execute attacks on OIR coalition forces.
    • It was not immediately clear what U.S. military assets were used in the strikes.

Pre strike 1 vs pre strike 2 shows vehicles no longer present and weren't there on strike either.

...or are they all different locations?

Breaking: Several rockets target base hosting US troops near Baghdad – AFP
    2019-12-29

BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:00 P.M.) – A base housing U.S. military personnel near Baghdad was reportedly targeted by several rockets this evening, the AFP News Agency reported.

“4 rockets target base housing US personnel near Iraq capital,” the AFP reported, citing a security official.

Prior to this report, several claims appeared on Twitter about an alleged Iranian-backed attack on the Al-Taji Base, which is located near the capital city of Baghdad.

Lucas Tomilson, a journalist for Fox News at the Pentagon, said U.S. official denied the attack on the Al-Taji Base.

He wasn't. He has made it clear that he is not to be bothered in bed or on the golf course.

Putin must have had prior knowledge through back channels, at very least to clear/evacuate Russian assets in the region or to confirm there are none in the zone; 'precision' strikes have been known to pass through unintended keyholes. The alternative would be to risk US weapons targeting Russian personnel on 3rd party turf.

Protesters break into US embassy compound in Baghdad after American airstrikes in Iraq – reports

    31 Dec, 2019

Dozens of Iraqi protesters furious over airstrikes that targeted Hezbollah positions have forced their way into the US embassy compound in Baghdad. Tear gas and sounds of gunfire were reported at the scene.

The crowd was able to gain access to sections of the heavily-fortified Green Zone, smashing doors and security cameras on the wall surrounding the diplomatic building, according to the Associated Press. The agency said that there was a fire in one part of the compound, and that at least three US soldiers were spotted on the roof of the embassy.

Plumes of dark smoke could be seen rising from the compound, as protesters waved Hezbollah flags and chanted “Down, down USA!”, “Death to America” and “Death to Israel.”

    This is escalating ...

    ---

Iran's Qassem Soleimani killed in US air raid at Baghdad airport

Pre-dawn raid also killed Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in a major escalation of regional tensions.

Two unnamed US officials told Reuters news agency that the US carried out the air attack that killed Soleimani [File: Office of the Iranian Supreme Leader via AP]

General Qassem Soleimani, the head of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force and architect of its regional security apparatus, has been killed following a US air raid at Baghdad's international airport on Friday.

The White House and the Pentagon confirmed the death of Soleimani in Iraq, saying the attack was carried out at the direction of US President Donald Trump and was aimed at deterring future attacks allegedly being planned by Iran.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif has condemned the killing as an "act of international terrorism."
"The US bears responsibility for all consequences of its rogue adventurism."

Iraqi officials and the state television reported that aside from Soleimani, Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis was also killed in the pre-dawn raid.

If this was in retaliation for the embassy troubles, which itself was a response to some earlier action in the unending chain as some 'experts' suggest, it's not possible in the short space of time between the act and the US action, no matter how efficient their intel, to investigate, identify, search, locate and take out linked individuals or groups, in this case him.

They already had tabs on him, from days to months, just like others on a rather long list of viable targets that's constantly updated in real time, and were waiting for some real or perceived provocation to engage. So something happens giving cause, say the embassy performance or the attack on personnel, they choose which target/s to take out in retaliation, and it doesn't matter if cause and effect are unconnected.

This is good psychology, as it sends the message to many individuals and groups that they are vulnerable whenever others misbehave.

Or maybe that's wrong as it gives the US too much credit.

I reckon the Ayatollahs were testing Trump (more to come) in an election year, and hoping he would freeze like Carter.

General Salami got killed by "katyusha" rockets.

    Israel (Mossad) provided Salami's wherabouts.

General Salami is now a martyr and got a pizza named after him. Its called Pizza In schā' Allāh (Pizza salami with lots of pork)

Khamenei called for three days of mourning in Iran for Salami..... lazy bastards

Trump finally did the right thing.
