you seem to think the eu is some kind of forward looking nirvana, an organism where every limb is equal, where the left hand helps the right hand where cross border competition has disappeared and every country works for the common good, whereas in fact its just the opposite. they are all squabbling for their share of the pie, they are all fighting to retain their identities just as brussels seeks to homogenise them. it will end in tears.

but the brits are island people, we are uppity and dont like to be told what to do. especially by europeans, lovely as they are. we can trade with them, eat their cheese, buy their cars, admire their sophisticated manners and clothes when compared to the boorishness exhibited by many brits, and they can come and pick our fruit and doctor our sick. if only the negotiators would exhibit some pragmaticism. but no, they are worried in case we offer some serious competition to them and draw business and investment away. they operate a closed shop. with rules and regulations that are expensive to implement and onerous in their strength. and dont talk about workers rights, we are perfectly capable of protecting workers from the extremes of capitalism, and we can do a better job of it than the euros. have a look at the slave trade that operates in spain to produce all the fruit and veg that we brits and other northern european states are happy to purchase for peanuts. i dont see brussels doing too much about it.

no, we dont need brussels, we dont need their stifling red tape and we dont need german hegemony.

mainlanders of europe have a different mindset, they have to be mindful of their neighbours, or at least try to be. when they dont they fight, thats why the history of europe has been one of constant friction, warfare and enmity. the eu may be a good thing for them.

we dont need it, and by an overwhelming majority we have voted against it, we are perfectly capable of arranging our own trading arrangements and tax policies, and now that we are rid of the threat of the kind of socialism that would have castrated the country, we have at least 5 years, and in all probability 10, to do things differently.

so s.a., do us all a favour here on teak door, show us northern monkeys some well earned respect now that we have been listened to, wind in your fucking neck for a while and lets see how the next few years pans out.

A rather long and somewhat tedious exposition of 'der klein Englander's' insular mindset, Tax.

The poor man of Europe that was Britain was rehabilitated by the EU and now a small majority of 'the stupid', not a great majority as you so idiotically have exaggerated, wish to return to those days because a sclerotic bunch of hapless dinosaurs led by the cynical and deluded have duped a credulous and dull-witted people into believing the bizarre fantasy their attachment to welfare and poor productivity is a consequence of foreigners and not an addiction to debt driven consumerism and aversion to prudent financial husbandry.

Given the UK has been responsible for its own taxation regime since its inception some three hundred years ago your absurd ramblings on the subject are even more addled than usual. Still, it is nice that you have at least acknowledged the reality of your simian state which one hopes will now be sustained by the bananas your new found zookeeper, Bojo the Clown, has thrown you.

Stupid is as stupid does, eh Tax, and there ain't nowt more stupid than the lumpen English suckling on the teat of a facile doctrine of jingoistic, xenophobic nationalism fed to them by a bunch of snake oil pedlars taking them back to the days when they jump for joy at being fed some crumbs of comfort from the top table of their social betters.

Rees Mogg is laughing like a fucking drain, you silly Northern sap.

The UK of today was built by the EU,

when it joined the EU, the whole place was on the verge of bankruptcy and economic retardation

Well said, Butters, but I'm afraid as Bercow might say, the oiks have it, the oiks have it.

Incidentally, I see the £ has reverted to 39.69 baht reflecting the growing realisation by the markets that a majority fuckwit Tory ERG government is no improvement in the headlong rush over the precipice of Brexshit stupidity.

So, a current account deficit of £25 billions and a debt to GDP ratio of 86% with continuing poor productivity and a contracting manufacturing base is a solid basis to create more indebtedness, eh?

When's that new flower bridge between NI and Scotland getting built, then?

A bridge over troubled waters from nowhere to nothing.

    A bridge of sighs......

The country has truly gone fucking mad.

well, we were hardly likely to agree were we.

all your blinkered reasoning, all your earth shattering predictions, all those facts gleaned from your life collating spreadsheets, all those insults.

but the only fact that really matters is that economic outcomes, of which you are addicted to, are impossibly hard to predict with any degree of accuracy given the myriad variables that can pop up and enter any equation at any time.

and for one who regularly spouts some the most xenophobic rants on the board (although out of kindness and in the spirit of xmas i will give you the benefit of the doubt and put much of your your bile down to trolling.) you seem to have a problem distinguishing between nationalism and patriotism.

and apart from the odd outburst at football matches, the throwing of the odd bacon sandwich at a mosque or synagogue, the occasional racist tweet, or an ill judged attempt at humour by a politician, all of which are seized upon and built up by the lefty press and social media as incontrovertible proof of the uks descent into nazism, when in fact they are little more than isolated incidents carried out by the ignorant, temporarily emboldened by reading the shite posted on some extremist website. and as a second gen immigrant myself i must say that in general the people of the uk are extremely tolerant to foreigners of all colours and creeds, far more so than france, italy or germany, to say nothing of the eu's eastern states.

only time will tell which one of us is correct re. the outcome of brexit, but i would put money on it being me.

so tootle pip old chap, and a happy xmas to you and yours, tomorrow i will put myself in the hands of our wonderful nhs to have another chunk of sun ravaged epidermis removed from my boat race and then i will lie low until xmas and our long trip to thailand in january.

so dont spare the factor 50 when you go swimming.

thanks for the concern, its nothing serious, not like last time. its a squamous cell carcinoma, sounds terrible, but they rarely if ever spread like a malignant melanoma, and i noticed it early. a wide excision is recommended, they certainly shouldnt be left to fester, and its all done under local. it wont be disfiguring so my magnificent handsomeness will remain, and the resultant scar will only enhance my manliness and front line war exploits.

i can only advise all those who spend a lot of time under the thai sun to get their skin checked regularly by a competent dermatologist.

Had one removed earlier this year. That's from years spending weekends out on the ocean in the blazing Arabian Gulf sun.

I have made it a policy to get checked out once every 6 months by a dermatologist from now on.

Were you used as some form of warning beacon for other vessels?
