RAQA: Two feet deep, below a plot of farmland outside the Syrian city of Raqa, lies a large and deadly legacy of the Islamic State group: a mass grave holding an estimated 3,500 people.


First responders learned of the burial site in the al-Fukheikha agricultural suburb last month, more than a year after US-backed forces captured Raqa from IS and as they closed in on the group's final redoubt of Baghouz further south.


The belated discovery is the biggest example yet of how the violence IS sowed during the reign of its "caliphate" will be harvested for years to come, diggers and activists said.

Several dozen mounds of dirt line one side of the al-Fukheikha plot, marking the more than 120 bodies already dug up by the Rapid Response Division of Raqa's civil defence service.


"These are individual graves, but behind us, by the trees, are the mass graves of those executed by Daesh (IS)," said Asaad Mohammad, the 56-year-old forensic assistant at the site.

"There are some 2,500-3,000 bodies estimated there, plus between 900 and 1,100 bodies in the individual graves, so at least 3,500 total," he said.


Eight other mass graves have already been identified around the northern Syrian city, including one nicknamed "Panorama," from which more than 900 bodies had been exhumed.

"Al-Fukheikha is the largest grave since IS came to Raqa" in 2014, said Mohammad.

While I agree she shouldn't be allowed back, there are strong and strengthening arguments to reverse course, and not just Corbyn's stance that she be brought back and given the support she needs.

First off, Javid should explain what is so special about this girl against other returning jihad brides, and while at it address recent revelations that hundreds of returning jihad fighters, that's seasoned fighters not baby machines, are already roaming free on British streets, with IS defeats in the field expected to result in many more streaming through.

He or someone in gov should give us the true numbers, in response to a Times report (no link) that hundreds of returned jihadi fighters are not being monitored or supervised in any way. Instead, all we'll hear is whining that there isn't enough money available to properly track so many high risk individuals with TPIM. IF this is true, then the girl should be allowed back in, not as a victim but to even out the hypocrisy and avoid accusations that HMgov are being unfairly selective in allowing some in but not others.

Duty calls but will be back later, lots of shit going on and our glorious leaders appear to be treating this matter no better than Brexit and whatever other fiascos surface between now and the witch's flight into oblivion.

The main impediment to rendering her stateless remains International law.

I find it very hard to believe that the money for the flights has not been identified.
Secondly the school seems to have been particularly slack.
I've run schools and once the first child had been identified it would have been a full on emergency.
There are far to many loose ends in this whole affair.

Shamima Begum: 'We should live in Holland' says IS husband

The Dutch husband of Shamima Begum, who joined the Islamic State group in Syria in 2015 aged 15, has said he wants her to return to the Netherlands with him.

Yago Riedijk and Ms Begum married days after she arrived inside IS territory.

Speaking to the BBC, he admitted fighting for the group but says he now wants to return home with his wife and their newborn son.

Mr Riedijk, 27, is being held in a Kurdish detention centre in north-eastern Syria.

but had the child lived it would have had a miserable existence, shuffled around for years from one filthy refugee camp to another, inculcated with desperation and negativity, no father present, no country wanting to take in the traitorous bitch or her poor child. it was doomed from the moment of birth, something the dumbfuck father should have thought about before impregnating his wife.

The thing is, banishment is not a sanction currently listed in the British judicial system and as such the exclusion of this woman and her child was unlawful. Given the child has now died in circumstances that directly related to that exclusion it is clear that the current British government, and certainly the Home Secretary, is culpable and therefore must be held to account.

When all is said and done, if there is no meaningful rule of law then there is nothing.

Unless the mother is to be charged with an offence within the jurisdiction of Syria then she should be permitted to return to Britain where she can mount an action against HMG for the death of her child.
