and there are indications that the number is higher than 4, but meadows is trying to hide the info because it would be a crushing blow to the campaign.

    and it shouldn't.

it's madness to think that someone with not a day's worth of service in govt. could suddenly walk in and run the entire operation competently.

Couldn't happen in most European countries either.

There are no independent in Sweden, all candidates belongs to a party and the party decides who should be nominated and put on the party's list.
The party selects those they think can best represent the party, if a quisling wants to sneak in then he first has to spend long time in the party before he can convince its members that he is the one to nominate.
Want to become a politician? You can register your own party after showing that you have the support of x hundred thousand voters.
No bogus party's like in Thailand. If you get more than 4% of the total votes in an election then the party is entitled to get government monetary support otherwise the party has to cover its costs by itself.

No affiliation is part of this.

UK is divided into some 500 or so constituencies, each of which elects one person to parliament. People stand for election as independents, or belonging to one of the established parties (e.g the big two -labour and conservative). Election day I ruck up and vote for the person I would like to represent my constituency - only that. Biggest party (most elected members of parliament) forms the government.

The big difference is that the Prime Minister is selected by the party *not* the electorate. (Obviously going into the election there are candidates who are identified by the parties as who will lead the party as Prime Minister if the party gets to form the government).

I think the biggest consequential difference betwee the two systems is that the party leader (who may end up as Prime Minister) usually has a long career in government, often with quite senior portfolios. The "businessman one day, leader of the country next day" scenario could not happen in UK.
your registration system sounds relatively similar to ours , I think you might have a different system of nominating candidates , thus the difference in affiliation registration if there is any.
Personally I think that both you system of electing (shorter campaigning timeline),, and governing ,having to form majority governments by forming coalitions between parties. which fosters diversity of thought, and compromise. Are vastly superior.
We are trapped in this bipolar two party , media show of perpetual campaigning. Any divergent third party idea is seen as a spoiler by one side or the other and short lived. And the incredible costs of perpetual campaigning has enslaved the system to big money.

Needed to run in an election :

Denmark: 20000 signatures ( if you want to run only in 1 district you'll need 150)
    Norway: 500
    Sweden: 1500

Kinda easy to get some fresh blood

We're in the final stretch of the election campaign, so get ready for the latest GOP/Trump trick. Don't be surprised if Barr, second in command of the Trump crime syndicate, tries to repeat what Comey did to Hillary in 2016 by making a grand announcement into opening up an investigation into Biden and his son shortly. Get ready for it. Fox News, trump campaign headquarters, will be part of the plan in advance in order to make this as explosive as possible.

I see that the old GOP ploy and trickery of spreading false hope worked on the media regarding Barrett's SCOTUS appointment. As usual, a few Republican senators, this time Murkowski and Romney, float the idea that they may break with Trump to take the pressure off but flip days before a vote is taken.

Might be a tad too much to declare the US a failed state for not being able to control its southern border, however: I have no doubt that many will be swallowing this:

Biden rises in popularity despite doubt and attacks

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has endured a long and bruising campaign, with repeated attacks on his policies, his family, his mental faculties - and, often, sustained doubts even from those inside his own party.
Democrats spurned him in the early primary season contests and worried throughout the fall in a general election that began with Biden under fire for campaigning mostly from his basement. Party factions feared Biden would fail to shore up the Democratic base or that he had lost a step due to his age. Allies fretted he would stumble in debates with President Donald Trump and his gaffes would give ample material to his tenacious opponent.

But the circumstances of this campaign - a pandemic and an economic collapse costing millions of jobs and making even the still-employed feel vulnerable - have pushed the race in the direction of Biden's strong suits and against his deficits, shining a bright light on his empathy and sober experience and casting his flaws into the shadows.

He has emerged with more Americans viewing him favorably now than at this time last year, the opposite of the usual trajectory of a campaign and far different from the circumstances that faced Hillary Clinton in 2016. He holds a national lead approaching double digits and narrower but stable leads in many battleground states. He enters the final stretch with far more money to spend than Trump as he reaches for the pinnacle of a political career, one that has eluded him twice before.

The closing days of one of the most unusual presidential campaigns in history conclude years of Democratic anger and angst over how to defeat the man they view as a historically damaging figure in American politics. Biden's approach, however, has relied on the same traits and tactics he has utilized over the past half-century in politics.

UK as an independent: £500 deposit (will lose this if you fail to gain 5% of votes cast). Can't be serving military or police and must be solvent. You are also restricted to the amount you can spend. Never sure what the limit is and how it is applied but you need to declare all donations and spending over £10K.

    But won't get elected

By us they would have a shot at it, cause the cake consists of 175 seats.

Years ago a guy from Union of deliberate work-shy Elements won a seat in parlament.

    Gave him quite the shock

    Slogan:

"If work is so healthy, then give it to the sick"

. Among his outrageous campaign promises were: 8 hours of free time, 8 hours of rest and 8 hours of sleep; more
tailwind on bicycle paths; promises of better weather; right to impotency; Nutella in field rations (which was actually implemented); and shorter queues in supermarkets.[6][7]Asylum rated his win in the parliamentary election the 11th greatest prank of all time.[7] When his portrait was hung in the parliament, Haugaard commented that it should serve as a warning that any idiotic populist might get elected.

    The end for Trump?

    2020 US Presidential Race-screenshot_2020-10-27-why-trump-insider

Donald Trump was elected to office in 2016 on the promise that he would "Make America Great Again".
Four years on, he's presiding over a nation that is bitterly divided with a troubled economy and a population ravaged by the COVID-19 pandemic.

With just over a week to go before polling day, Four Corners examines whether Donald Trump can once again defy the polls and his critics and secure a second presidential term.

Opinion polls are giving Democrat contender Joe Biden a decisive lead, and despite Donald Trump's insistence, even some of his most prominent supporters concede he has a battle on his hands.

^^^^ so true. The whole world is laughing at us.
Even after we get rid of the idiot in the Whitehouse, It will be a long time until we get rid of the stigma that we elected him. I am afraid this moron had done lasting damage to the reputation of the Uniped States of America, out enemies now know what buttons to push.

While a Joe Biden victory will certainly be less embarassing for the USA (and the West in general), it still isn't exactly a victory for addressing the real structural issues that besiege the USA. And any positive difference it will make in the USA's awful, belligerent foreign policy is far from clear. Trump obviously failed to deliver, but I can see why his Maverick, non-Establishment schmaltz rang a chord with many US people. Biden in contrast, is a Beltway fossil.

Sorry to rain on the premature parade, but to what extent a Biden Presidency will be an improvement on Trump- an admittedly low bar- has yet to be established. I for one know little of what to expect.

He has been POTUS with a GOP-controlled and Mitch 'I'm Gonna Make Him A One Term President Obstructionist' McConnel led Senate so that narrative doesn't work and as per most of these things is just a right-wing echo chamber talking point of what they are guilty of themselves. Snowflakes gonna snowflake and play the victim and Trump is the snowiest of all snowflakes -- a weak man who constantly whines.

Wrong again, snowflake. That's what Trump would try to do if Biden won, as he has said so himself. Democrats believe in the law.
Btw, you still haven't answered my question.
