Why do you consider Michael Bloomberg not to be a capable candidate?

an interesting read for those inclined....
What if there aren’t really American swing voters—or not enough, anyway, to pick the next president? What if it doesn’t matter much who the Democratic nominee is? What if there is no such thing as “the center,” and the party in power can govern however it wants for two years, because the results of that first midterm are going to be bad regardless? What if the Democrats' big 41-seat midterm victory in 2018 didn’t happen because candidates focused on health care and kitchen-table issues, but simply because they were running against the party in the White House? What if the outcome in 2020 is pretty much foreordained, too?

To the political scientist Rachel Bitecofer, all of that is almost certainly true, and that has made her one of the most intriguing new figures in political forecasting this year.

^"And today her model tells her the Democrats are a near lock for the presidency in 2020, and are likely to gain House seats and have a decent shot at retaking the Senate."

I agree with her but turnout is the key.

    ^^ Good article Ray.

The logic of her argument is solid.

I wonder how much of the election will be decided, not by the 'swing voters' but those Dem voters who actually turn out.

Trumps 'rusted on' voters, I assume, are a near certainty to turn out en-masse.

Fortunately, there is no "International Election Observation" that would make the counting much more difficult - and time consuming...

International observation is complemented in many countries by domestic observer groups.

Standard international election observation missions, as deployed by, for the example, the European Commission or the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), monitor the entire electoral process

Iowa caucuses results are in but chaos and confusion reign as no clear winner emerges

    2020 US Presidential Race-11944686-3x2-700x467-jpg

The winner of the first Democratic presidential primary in Iowa remains unclear, despite 100 per cent of voting precincts reporting their results.

    Key points:
    • 100 per cent of precincts have reported their results, according to the Iowa Democratic Party website
    • Pete Buttigieg and Bernie Sanders have both claimed victory
    • The leader of the DNC has called for the results to be "recanvassed" to reassure voters

Former South Bend, Indiana, mayor Pete Buttigieg leads Vermont senator Bernie Sanders by two state delegate equivalents out of 2,152 counted — a margin of 0.09 percentage points — following the Iowa Democratic Party's release of the results from all 1,765 precincts in the state's Democratic caucuses.

But both candidates have declared themselves victorious and there is evidence the party has not accurately tabulated some of its results.

The Associated Press said it was unable to declare a winner.
The New York Times has reported the contest was a "dead heat".

    err....about what harry?

i've posted that i don't think bloomberg can get the nomination...or win the general...but i'd certainly support him against trump.

so what is it that you think i'm upset about?

    true.

and like nearly everyone else in america, i can assure you it won't be 'mayor mike'.

in fact, i don't think i've ever heard him referred to with that name.

buttigieg, sure....but not bloomberg....even when he was actually a mayor he was just 'bloomberg'.

but good for you harry.....you're leading the charge with this great nick name.

just my 2 cents, but this is yet another in a long list of reasons why you should stick to copy & pasting cartoons.

It would be so boring to do an election in the old-fashion way like some undeveloped countries when they know the results of the whole country over night, won't be?
(e.g. when they vote for the dangerous Mr.P.)
