Not saying that this couldn't have been handled better even by Clowns
So the economy has tanked to a recession of Great Depression levels, and matching unemployment, even with a $2Trn cash injection. Yes, "you are collapsing".

This country (USA) has backed itself into a corner. We got folks that don't like what they're hearing from established sources (MSM) so off they go believing B.S. spouted by enchanting but very whacky right wing nutcases, who are just trying to cash in on the ignorance and keep their sponsors in power.

What to do? How do you solve an issue where basic facts, accountable journalism, and science are all disregarded as some flavor of conspiracy to enslave people?

How do you fight the spread of irrational, fear based thought?

My personal belief is that it will end in tears and a great reset for Americans, maybe even globally (look at Hungary et al). Another dark age, perhaps.

...not necessarily...imo, when the debt crunch hits, interest rates will rise to attract USD bond buyers. The US economy will be out of whack for 2-3 quarters (as seen in stock market gyrations), but will eventually settle into a growth pattern...of course, tRump will do his best to disrupt any attempt at normalcy with his shenanigans, but his time (and influence, such as it is) is limited...

So, here we are, Thursday, May 21, 2020 only 166 days till we pull the lever…
Yes, I know today is the 23RD but the article is dated the 21ST

    ASSOCIATED PRESS | PUBLISHED: May 21, 2020 at 2:52 p.m. | UPDATED: May 21, 2020 at 8:19 p.m.

WASHINGTON — As the coronavirus pandemic stretches on, Americans’ views of the federal and state government response to the crisis are starting to sour — yet President Trump’s personal approval rating has remained steady.

A new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research shows that 41% of Americans approve of the president’s job performance, while 58% disapprove. That’s consistent with opinions of Trump before the pandemic, as well as throughout his more than three years in office.

The survey highlights one of the remarkable features of Trump’s tenure as president: Despite a steady drumbeat of controversies, an impeachment trial and now a historic public health crisis, few Americans have changed their views of him. He’s failed to increase his support in any measurable way, yet he also has retained the approval of his core backers, including the overwhelming majority of Republicans.

Less than six months from his upcoming Election Day face-off against Democrat Joe Biden, the consistency of Trump’s support appears to leave him with the same narrow path to victory that first propelled him to the White House in 2016, even as the pandemic and resulting economic crisis upend nearly every aspect of American life.

So, even after 3 years, 4 months and 20 days of Donnie the Mouth flapping his jaws, tweeting away and insulting everybody, an untold number of faux pas, a veritable abject inability to play nice or present a admirable appearance…
Despite a steady drumbeat of controversies,
    Despite an impeachment trial,
Despite a historic public health crisis…

Few Americans have changed their views of The Donald. The consistency of his support leaves him with the same narrow path that resulted in a 304 to 227 victory, a 57% to 43% victory. That’s a 14% difference.

Yup, Joe’s got his work cut out for him…

    except....

    1. 40 million americans are are currently unemployed. highly unlikely the unemployment rate drops below 10% by election day. tough to run on that.
    2. trump won MI, PA and WI by a total of 78,000 votes and thus the electoral college. that number wouldn't fill one of the football stadiums at M, PS or W.
    3. people hated clinton. whatever they feel about biden, it's not hate.
    4. if there's a second wave of the virus in or before October it will crush him with any independents still considering him.
    5. his big, beautiful wall will be shorter than 500 miles on election day.
    6. he has no replacement for obamacare.

the above are facts, and this is just my opinion: he doesn't want to win. he just wants it to be close enough that his supporters believe there was fraud.

the COVID-19 crisis mismanagement by every single government on the planet means there is a wave of new global leaders that will come sooner than later,

Trump is really a special case, he has been fighting against his own government, like an opposition leader would do, and that might save him come November

I predict a large swathe of people who didn't vote last time will wish to undo their error.

    That's democrats *and* independents.

anyway.....monmouth released a poll a few days ago which was pretty interesting:

they surveyed voters who don't like either candidate ...and for those who still intended to vote, biden was preferred by 40 points.....in 2016, trump beat clinton with this group by about 20 points.

i never understood it, but some people had a visceral hatred for clinton.....and she's not on the ballot this year.

100,000 dead Americans. One wrong president.
Wondering how much (more or less?) it would be with some better president (please no names here)...

But it's not some better president. It's Trump.

You don't judge a leader based on hypothetical's about other hypothetical non-leaders you judge them on their actions and Trump has resoundingly failed.

Whataboutisims aren't going to reincarnate 100,000 dead people.
