    That was my impression.

Guilty or not, confirmed or not (and I suspect he will be), one thing is for certain: the guy is a partisan hack and has no rightful place on the SCOTUS.

Incidentally anyone see the interview where Kellyanne Conway came out and said she'd been sexually assaulted?

When the interviewer -- naturally enough -- queried the link to working for a man who has been repeatedly and convincingly accused of sexual assaults she defaulted to her standard 'don't conflate...' line.

Well sorry Kellyann but when your job description is basically to turd polish for a serial liar and the Pussy Grabber in Chief with your 'alternative facts' then it's very fucking relevant.

This is the statement that's going to sink him. How could anyone think he could be apolitical after letting that pass his lips.

They are going to find a way to roll him through anyway... just in time for a SCOTUS vote on a bill that stops anyone being charged under state law for something they've been prosecuted for under Federal law...

Which conveniently allows baldy orange cunto to pardon people who are then conveniently protected.

I'm sure Mueller will respond accordingly, but it just shows the lengths these people will go to put themselves above the law.

I don't know, but I suppose the double jeopardy law applies anyway. What could change is a sort of converse of that situation, eg New York state currently suing Trump Foundation, which he can't get out of as it's state level.
But yes, it's clear that Trump and the Reps want to protect themselves and their bandwagon of Christain, white, male, platforms that get them elected.
Not sure what Mueller can do about it.

Move everything to a State Court. Baldy orange cunto can't touch them. Of course if he replaces Rosenstein with a crony, he may try and force them to issue Federal charges...

He did. One major point he made which I have not read being made before is the one about MK being nothing extraordinary as a judge and that he didn't outshine any other potential nominees.
Why would the Reps stand their ground on such a contentious pick if he has nothing special going for him? Why wouldn't they just ditch him and thereby gain a few political points rather than stand tough on the issue and risk derision and criticism?
My gut says there's some backroom deals that have been made and only Kavanaugh can see them come to fruition. That sort of thing can be his only "special" qualification for the job that makes him stand above the other judges.

Apolitical? Utterly absurd. His extreme right wing views are the very reason he was nominated. The idea, floated mostly by himself, that he is some kind of impartial judicial paragon of virtue is ridiculous.

The sad thing, from my point of view, is that in the USA appointing judges based on their political beliefs is considered normal and, apparently, acceptable.

I've always thought the whole system of judicial appointments in the US is odd.

They're either partisan picks (and lifetime in the case of the SCOTUS) or elected -- both of which fling open to door to inequality and bias.

I really don't have a dog in the race, but all I can say is having watched Kavanaugh give his testimony - he is pretty much everything I would not want in a judge. Petty, emotional and angry.

Still, the fact that Trump is President kinda sets the bar - so how low can you go?

Well, the people have political beliefs so why would it be strange that judges are somehow immune to political leanings?

It is not strange that people have political leanings but it should be irrelevant in appointing judges, IMO. Judges should focus on the law and not a partisan political interpretation of it. Leave that to politicians. That's my view, but as I said, the view in the US seems to be very different.

Because they're supposed to be impartial. Scales of justice and all that. Judges need to be able to put their emotions and political leanings aside when making judgements of law. Kavanaugh doesn't seem able to put either aside at a time when, during his "job interview", he should be displaying the ability.

"NEW HAVEN — As an undergraduate student at Yale, Brett M. Kavanaugh was involved in an altercation at a local bar during which he was accused of throwing ice on another patron, according to a police report."
