I think Jordan Peterson is going to prove to be a long term benefit to society.

I do not agree with everything he says but he is making substantial inroads in undermining some of the silly extremes of political correctness that are strangling Western society.

As Fry said in the debate, political correctness simply does not work.

We all want a better fairer society where people are not constrained by archetypal role models etc.

But enforcing these ideas by censoring what people are allowed to say and think is not the way to go about this.

We have political correctness substantially to blame for having Donald Trump in the white house.

He was able to use the censoriousness of the left to create a ground-breaking and completely original political campaign centred around completely ignoring political correctness.

Tearing into political correctness was his bread and butter. People could not believe that someone was willing to say the things he was willing to say. It was such a breath of fresh air that people were willing to turn a blind eye to the reality that having a racist and misogynist like that in the white house is actually a step backwards for society.

If Jordan Peterson can push back the left wing censoriousness so that people are free to speak to some of the politically challenging realities of human nature then idiots like Trump will not be able to get the same kind of traction in future.

Why do you throw 'christian' in there?
I'm not Christian and it seems to me you interpret things as a being from another planet who's never lived among the humans.

The status quo is that you have Donald Trump in the Whitehouse.

He got in on a campaign fuelled entirely on feeding off the general population's weariness with political correctness.

How is that working out for you?

The empirical evidence is that censorious left wing repression is counter-productive.

Did you watch the inimitable Stephen Fry running rings round the irascible reverend in crackers youbiquitous youtube?

What is your take on the causal effect between political correctness and our glorious new orange skinned leader of the free world?

^I was not trying to bait you. Just trying to be yumourous. I know you don't like Trump as most people with any sense do not.

I sincerely believe that the intolerant and censorious left are substantially responsible for the predicament in which the West now finds itself. With a resurgent Jina to try and contain and this oafish narcissistic buffoon at the helm.

Trump is the price we have paid for allowing the stasi-esque political correctness police to stifle free speech and intelligent debate.

Jordan Peterson is not without his strange foibles but if he is able to catalyse a shift away from repressive left wing snowflake censoriousness then I think he could start a cultural shift that takes the wind out of Trumps sails.

Trump would have been a humorous footnote in history books were it not for the power of backlash that he was able to harness.

    Horseshit.

None of the cretins that voted for baldy orange cunto are even remotely capable of anything "intelligent". They're as thick as pig shit.

If only that were true Harry.

If only we lived in a world of simple explanations where only retrograde red-necks vote for orange chimpanzees.

But the truth is Trump was elected president against all the odds because many ordinary non-extreme people voted for him. His victory was a narrow one which means we can peg the blame on any of the contributing factors, since reversing only one of those factors would have changed the outcome of the election.

One of those factors (and I would contend a major one) was a backlash against political correctness.

It was actually a huge gamble by Trump but it paid off and he was able to turn his showbiz talents, honed in the world of television, to pulling of the biggest political heist in US presidential history.

Trump is dangerous because this is not reality television. This is global world order and the safety of the human race and its path towards progress.

The first step in putting things right is facing up to the truth about how damaging repressive political correctness can be when the pressure of the backlash is finally released.

The authoritarian left has brought this down on us and on themselves and we need to learn from this experience.

The other problem is that media commentators are constantly pessimistic about whether society is in fact progressing. They report negative news and not positive news and this leads to cognitive dissonance in the population about how bad things actually are. This in turn allows populist demagogues like Trump to scare the population and tell them that only they are capable of reversing the awful downward trajectory of society, when in fact society was doing much better than the population was being led to believe by the media.

yep, and i've posted this fact a few times, though some still don't seem to understand that these "trumpanzees" voted for obama in the previous presidential election, turning blue states red.

so, these people were "racist idiots" when they voted for obama?

    https://www.realclearpolitics.com/ar...mp_133408.html

There are 3,088 counties in America and only 206 of them voted for the winner in each of the last three presidential elections. In other words, these Pivot Counties voted twice for President Obama before switching sides to vote for President Trump in 2016.

The Pivot Counties had an outsized impact on the election results. Despite casting only 5 percent of the national vote total in 2016, they accounted for 51 percent of the popular vote shift toward Republicans.

    Trump counties where:

    Obama won twice

    Obama won once

Voters switching from Obama to Trump don't disprove hb's contention.

In fact, not really understanding what you're voting for three times in a row...

Hardly any switched. They just didn't want to come out and vote for Clinton.

That's how baldy orange cunto won by Electoral college, but with the worst losing margin in Presidential history.

Well written Looper. I don't always agree with JP', but he always provides fresh food for thought, regardless. This time I totally agree w/ JP's point of view.

I watched both the Sam Harris Vancouver debates.

JP really does not measure up intellectually against a guy like Harris.

JP is in his element when he is lambasting the idiocy of identity politics and shredding interviewers but a moral philosopher he is not.

You can tell by his furrowed brow that Harris has him on the ropes most of the time.

Can I take it you are not a white heterosexual male Ray? In which case you can only imagine how it seems from a white hetero sexual male's perspective you cannot possibly know, which is supposition not fact. If you are a white hetero sexual male, the fact that you differ from looper invalidates your own group identity argument.
