Didn't see that one coming. However, yes, the EU are insisting that Euro trading shares are conducted within the EU. Exceptions can be given through 'Equivalence' (New York, Hong Kong etc) in regulatory standards. This hasn't been granted to the LSE (yet) as inspite of the UK's FCA standards exceeding that of the EU, there has been the political decision to exclude the UK.

Trading is computer based, and can be done from anywhere, however the real question is where the actual money is? A look at the figures for profits on trading EU shares in London for 2019 amounted to 3 billion. As I understand it, it formerly cost UK financial institutions 3 billion a year in EU compliance costs whilst being a member.

SA keeps quoting the trading loss to the UK, i.e. 220 billion. This trade will still take place, tarrif free. Yes, there are additional administrative requirements such as customs declarations, health certificates, certificates of origin etc, however these exports will overwhelmingly be repetitive, and within a short while become routine. Of course there will be suppliers both sides of the Channel who don't wish to engage in the additonal administrative burden, but as ever it's a supply and demand world. EU suppliers will be equally affected as the UK, given theirs is the greater in volume and value, one would think that pragmatism will prevail and smoothing routines eventually being put in place.

The benefits of leaving the EU cannot be purely measured in monetary terms, although particularly during this pandemic, the UK making its own decisions in terms of support to industry and individuals without becoming part of a Brussels grand and costly scheme is a tick in the plus box.

Which is why all the orthodox and established economic pundits worth their salt are all agreed that as a consequence of these extra burdens and impediment to supply chains, re-erecting obstacles dismantled over a period of many years since 1973 that hindered trade, britain's GDP growth will be reduced by 2% and no amount of tub thumping by deluded Brexit doctrinaires drinking from the fount of Bozo bombast will compensate for that recurring loss.

But despite your glib and ignorant postulations, SMEs are not in a position to easily accept this dislocation to their trade and will suffer greatly as they adjust their product lines at a price level taking into account the diminution in profits triggered by this new and unwanted daft customs and excise regime adding significant costs to their operation. And to put it into perspective for the doltish Brexit cretins, British SMEs account for over 32% of all UK exports contributing over £200 billions annually to trade in goods and services.

Given that of the 10% contribution to GDP Britain produces through manufacturing, 49% is derived from trade with the EU, I rather think Bozo has done quite a lot in his ambition to "fuck business".
