Again for clarity, a hard border North and South will only be imposed by the EU. Biden and the Democrats would be better canvassing Brussels rather than London.

The IMB is, if you like, the UK's 'Backstop' should the EU deem it necessary to use NI for political and fiscal mileage against the UK. The bill itself doesn't break the WA agreement, implementation rather than purely having it in the reserve toolbox, would contravene international law (which the UK would be prepared to due to maintain the integrity of the nations of the UK).

The EU is still trying to force the UK to be bound to EU standards virtually across the board, not only for trade between the UK and EU, but for the UK and the rest of the World.

An excerpt from an article in The Times this morning:

A UK government source said one of the most difficult issues was state aid. “We have a different view from the EU on what is appropriate on level playing field issues,” the source said. “We have been clear that we can look at common principles for our different subsidy systems and perhaps even at the ability to act if a major subsidy genuinely distorts trade.

“What we can’t agree to are arrangements which would require us to operate systems of laws equivalent to the EU’s and make us pay a penalty if we moved away from them.

“We need policy space to decide what is in the UK’s interest in the future. That is the very essence of what Brexit is about.”

One need to just look across the Atlantic to identify such "penalties" for "moving away" the newly adopted RULES established by a government and the world is bound by them or penalties/sanctions

The WA was not contingent upon a future deal, you idiot.

If the Brexit rabble proceed with this dismantling of the WA then the UK will be sanctioned by the EU, and, it seems, the US.

If the UK dos not operate a border in the Irish Sea then it will be in breach of the WA and the consequence will be a de facto border between NI and Ireland which negates the GFA, a prospect to which the Brxit ERG scum and BoJo seemed indifferent.

The British government agreed that NI would remain in the EU customs union. It is now breaking that agreement scarcely a year later, a fact admitted by its own cabinet members.
