Thread: Brexit - It's Still On!

I can see a compromise coming next week to ensure an orderly brexit. It won't be coming from the EU since they have no need to change their position. Instead, Labour and Tories will agree the backstop is necessary and the UK will stay in the Customs Union until an FTA is completed.

It will mean the UK will effectively be in the EU for a few more years.

No-deal is simply too big a risk to let happen.

So, how many is a 'few' years? No need to be precise, just have a stab: Is it 3, 7, 15, 27, 40, 78?

Oh, I think we can discount all your guesses for a start. If May compromises and agrees to stay in Customs Union until FTA is agreed and this means freedom of movement, then it will be more than 2years and probably 4 or 5.

I admire your confidence in treating your wild hopes/guesses/expectations as fact, and am moving to the conclusion that the best thing we could do is place the future of the UK in your capable hands.

But just to clarify: As it stands, May is boxed in by gods insisting there will be no further negotiations. And you suggest it is she that should 'compromise' by accepting the same deal she has already accepted and historically failed to pass through Parliament, pending a hopeful FTA; not a guaranteed FTA, because in my world wishful thoughts don't create facts, so read that as a hopeful FTA.

Yet you fail to explain why, under what circumstances or in which dimension, having us precisely where they want us, paying billions to remain legally trapped in an indefinite CU with no FTA, and with the right to keep us there for the rest of this century, the EU would after 2 or 'probably 4 or 5 years' get fed up of taking our money and release us, oh and with a FTA, as reward for our generous contributions to their great cause.

Was that your best guess, hope, expectation or fantasy?

Brexit: May to make plea to MPs for time to change deal

Prime Minister Theresa May will ask MPs to give her more time to secure changes to the controversial part of her Brexit deal - the Northern Irish backstop.

Mrs May is due to report back to MPs this week, after trying to persuade the EU to make last-minute changes.

According to the BBC's Iain Watson, the PM will promise Parliament another vote on other Brexit options if a deal is still not ready by the end of February.

Labour wants to hold Mrs May to her word and make sure the vote is held.

The shadow Brexit secretary, Sir Keir Starmer, has said Labour has drafted an amendment which, if passed this week, would guarantee a vote by the end of the month.

He accused the prime minister of "running down the clock" so that Parliament will only have a choice between her Brexit deal, and a no-deal exit.

The British parliament consists of many MP's who believe that you can leave a club, stop pay membership fee, but still get he club's privileges.
They are delusional and even more so by believing that a better deal can be gotten.

This an internal British problem and not something to compromise with EU about, the deal is done. Take it or leave it.
