Good news for a post Brexit Britian !!

Aussies and Brits will no longer need visas for each other's countries.

A free movement deal is close to bring signed.

All we need is for the Kiwis and Canada to get in board.

I for one will be emigrating lock stock and barrel to Oz, hail Brexit

That would take a minor miracle, I'm afraid.

Britain pushes for a freedom of movement deal with Australia to allow people to live and work in both countries without a visa after Brexit

    • Proposal was discussed by UK and Australian ministers in Canberra
    • Britain wants a deal similar to the one between Australia and New Zealand

Britain is pushing for a freedom of movement deal that will allow Australians to live and work in both countries without a visa.
The proposal was discussed by the UK's trade secretary, Liz Truss, and Australian Trade Minister Simon Birmingham in Canberra on Wednesday.
'It's certainly something we will be looking at as part of our free trade negotiations,' Secretary Truss said in a press conference at Parliament House.

Ms Truss said the UK would be 'looking at' the proposal as part of pre-Brexit trade talks with Australia.
'We want a fully comprehensive trade deal that reflects our deep, ongoing relationship, the friendship between our two countries, the fact that Australians want to come and live and work in Britain, and Brits want to come and live and work in Australia,' she said.
'The reason that I've chosen to make Australia one of the first countries I've visited as Trade Secretary is this is an absolute priority for me to get on with this trade deal.'
'I would say months rather than years for it to be completed.'

If that deal gets done, The Brits will need to get workers from somewhere.

I for one would be heading back there.

Is that where you stopped reading? Continue to the part where the Australian PM tells his opinion.

What is it you don't understand in "not interested"?

BTW Chitty, I read the Australian Press article of that same meeting and not one word was dedicated to any Visa issue.

Don't pack your bags just yet.

Aidan O'Neill QC made good opening and closing speeches today. I have a feeling Boris won't be inviting him to dinner any time soon.

Press suggest the judges weren't impressed but we'll have to wait for tomorrow to find out.

I hope Betty was taking notes, especially with respect to democracy vs populism.

Where do you get this 'close to being signed' BS from. From what I can see it's on the U.K.s fantasy wish list and been broached at ministerial level only.
No way the Aussies are agreeing to that.

    Macron upping the pressure

Brexit: UK has 12 days to set out plans - Finnish PM
    https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-49749465

Boris Johnson has 12 days to set out his Brexit plans to the EU, according to Finland's prime minister.

Antti Rinne said he and French President Emmanuel Macron agreed the UK needed to produce the proposals in writing by the end of September, adding if not, "then it's over".

Finland currently holds the EU's rotating presidency.

A Downing Street source said: "We will continue negotiating and put forward proposals at the appropriate time."

Mr Johnson has said a deal is possible at a crucial summit of EU leaders on 17 October, but he has insisted Brexit will happen by the 31 October deadline, even if a deal is not agreed.

The UK government said talks with the EU have been making progress since Mr Johnson came into No 10 in July.

It said it had put forward "a number of proposals" as alternatives to the Irish border backstop - the policy aimed at preventing the return of a hard border on the island of Ireland and a key sticking point in former PM Theresa May's Brexit deal.

But Mr Johnson has repeatedly refused to reveal details of the proposals in interviews, saying he did not want to negotiate in public.

The EU has continued to criticise the UK for not putting any plans in writing.

Earlier, the European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker, said a meeting with Mr Johnson on Monday had been "constructive".

But he said until proposals had been put forward, "I will not be able to tell you, looking you straight in the eye, that any real progress has been achieved".

ok, they look a bit gay together, but it's a start

but anyway pointless, Merkel will grant an extension on whatever crappy plan Boris will come up with

6months to 18months, plenty of time for a continuance of the Boris shitshow

There is more chance of Troy singing land of hope and glory rather than Deutchland uber alles than Brits getting visa free entry to Australia. The last thing Australians want is half the shite that landed in Blighty knocking on Australia's welfare door.
There is always an unbalanced migration when these deals are done as Britain has found with the E.U.
Looking at New Zealand with a total population less than Melbourne, the two way migration is about 10 new Zealanders to 1 Australian. Approx 2 of those Kiwi citizens are born overseas. Australia now has cases of Refugees granted New Zealand passports coming to Australia.
With The U.K. population being around 68 million one can only contemplate the sort of disaster unrestricted migration would have to a country like Australia whose infrastructure is already overloaded by high immigration numbers with some of the highest housing costs in the world.
Australia though vast has some of the poorest soils, some of the most arid regions, and comparatively poor water resources which will always limit its ability to have a high population compared to other countries.

Yeah, funny one... They will do exactly as the Yermins tell them to do, as always. I will be very happy to be proven wrong, but we're looking at an 18month to 2 year extension followed by more insanity in the British HoP.

She'll get my vote, but I make no shame in caring more about economic growth and progress than democracy. Apparently it is everyone's fault but wee little England that there is no deal yet. The rest of Europe did not makes this stupid decision to quit like a isolated and gibbering nationalistic loser.

^ Or go to the EU with a letter requesting an extension, perhaps?

Mike Fordham QC was the pick of today's session in the Supreme Court. Clear, concise, and factual, he made a lot of sense. Boris could be in a spot of bother.

At present, the EU has already conceded interim arrangements to prevent undue hardship e.g. UK road hauliers access to the Continent will continue, but if the ERG fanatics get their way then all bets will be off by the end of next year.

The problem with Brexit and its implications is that despite the passage of three years the average Brit Brexshitter remains as fucking stupid and ignorant as they were before the fucking vote.

I am seriously now thinking at moving to France at the end of this contract with the aim of getting my EU citizenship back. Not much point in being part of a backward flag dribbling nationlist shit hole like Blighty. I despair at the lack of any progress I see when I visit the dratted place; it's pretty embarrassing when you look at the speed China and other Asian countries are moving forward.
