I personally view Snowden as a young, rather foolish, idealist who thought he could change the world by betraying every oath to his country he had ever taken. End of the day, he's hiding in Moscow facing life in a cell if he ever emerges - and he changed nothing in the long term.

    The thing is this.

Snowden was no Numpie Johnny come lately. He topped his class and was the teachers head student.

He wrote spy programs for the CIA, he was way smarter than all the rest.

No way Obamma would of got involved and changed official policy if Snowden did not hit the sweet spot.

I mean you Seppos are not so sensitive that you would cast out your own simply because of a movie. ???

    Or are you.

Snowden was in the CIA for less than three years. The rest of his government time was as a computer geek for several government contractors. One of the really frightening things about the movie was how much Top Secret work is farmed out to contractors, who have loose security handles on their employees.

That's the thing...Snowden broke his security contracts that clearly state that he'd be imprisoned if he did violate their terms. That's why he's in Russia. He determined that being in exile is better than being in jail. I can't wait to see an interview from in twenty years from him to get his impressions on how much he changed things...

I was a contractor back in the day, my top security clearance took about a year to come through. I can't imagine the timeframe becoming less....

The thing about this movie for me was not Snowden, it could of been Daffy Duck as far as was concerned.

What the movie taught me was just how balls deep the US government are involved and knows about every Seppos Business and the ease with which they can collect the peoples private info.

Every time punters log onto Teak Door or any other sort of Public Media the CIA or any other of the worlds Spy agencies can access that info very easily.

The hackers they employ are first class highly trained computer geeks.

    They know it all.

Name a film that accurately tells a true story. I doubt you can.

    Subjective - objective.
    Political stance.
    Breast fed or not.

    Not possible.

So if what you say is true you would know that Snowden was spot on the Money.

I'm not saying he was correct in spilling the inside info but what he said was going down certainly could of been going down.

Further more, I aint got nothing to hide so my info is for public consumption no problems there.

The Australian Government knows everything about their citizens and only the dodgy fukers sweat it.

Watch "The Falcon and the Snowman". Around 30 years ago. Another CIA contractor out to change the world by passing classified to the Soviets - but for money as well.

    Watch " Munich ".

It's about the Mosad reprisal of hunting down the killers who killed the Israeli Olympic team.

    I watched that last night.

The point being that every Government on this earth will do anything they feel fit to do when they think they need to do it.

They are all first class dodgy fukers who will spy on their granny taking a shit.

Yep. As we are already seeing here.

Long before Snowden's disclosures anyone with a smidgen of sense knew the government was into heavy surveillance of it's citizens. All legal under the authority of the patriot act. An act hastely passed within 45 days of the 9/11 attack. An act which allowed surveilance of anyone based solely on a letter request from the FBI. Forget probable cause. Forget a court order. No need for that silly stuff during the patriotic "we are under attack" fervor of post 9/11. A fervor which led to what are by far a couple of the worst misadventures in US history. War in Afganistan and Iraq.

Back to the topic at hand. I do not consider Snowden a hero. His disclosures were pretty much known anyway. He knew the rules. He broke them. He should be prosecuted.

The documents Snowden made public were downloaded during the time he worked at the CIA and the time he worked as a subcontrator. The fact he was able to download and walk away with this highly classified material begs the question of security built into the system. Not to excuse Snowden but pretty dumb to have this super secret data so poorly secured. Bit like leaving your house unlocked hoping a burgler won't notice.

    For sure.

The point being was the length that the Israeli Government went to as to cover up their Agents doing the Hits.

Dodgy as fuk, totally under the Table but work well done in my Opinion.

Thing is, it meant Nothing at the end of the Day, the Enemy just stepped up the game.

    Way it works eh.

Same as the Seppos hacking shit, other countries can do it just as well.

Spying on your friends (or enemies) has been going on ever since human societies formed....no big deal.
All countries spy on eachother, all the time, if they can get away with it.

What's really scary or maybe just intriguing is people ignoring the fact and taking no measures to safeguard themselves from getting busted on what they yack over the airwaves.

    All those dodgy deals.
