Donald Trump allies collecting thousands of dollars for presidential pardons

Trump allies have collected huge amounts of money for access to the President, as he reportedly prepares to issue a staggering 100 pardons this week.

    NEWS.COM.AU1:25
    Will President Trump pardon himself?

Donald Trump’s last days in office could be used to grant himself a pardon — an act no other sitting President has ever attempted.

The last days of Donald Trump’s presidency have been nothing short of chaotic – so far filled with inciting an insurrection, impeachments and a refusal to attend his successor Joe Biden’s January 20 inauguration.
As if that weren’t enough for the history books, however, the 74-year-old’s allies have collected huge amounts of money for access to the outgoing President from those seeking pardons before he leaves office, a bombshell new report by The New York Times has detailed.

The “ad hoc” system – said to be run by the President’s son-in-law and adviser, Jared Kushner – supposedly bypasses the usual “intensive justice department review process intended to identify and vet the most deserving recipients from among thousands of clemency applications,” the paper reports.
White House sources told CNN that Mr Trump will issue 100 pardon and commutations on his final full day in office on Tuesday, local time.

Presidential pardons, while not implying innocence, are intended to show mercy to deserving recipients, setting aside any punishment and restoring civil rights lost to a convicted criminal.
Yet, like almost everything in the last four years, they’re a power that’s been taken to the extreme by Mr Trump, who has instead rewarded them to his personal and political allies, and even, pre-emptively, to his own children.
RELATED: One person who could save, or sink, Trump

Donald Trump’s allies have collected tens of thousands of dollars – and potentially much more – from people seeking pardons. Picture: Mandel Ngan/AFPSource:AFP

According to the Times, one former federal prosecutor, Brett Tolman, has collected “tens of thousands dollars, and possibly more, in recent weeks to lobby the White House for clemency” from three separate people.
Mr Tolman, who has been advising the White House on pardons and commutations, has been credited with helping less well-connected offenders win clemency, and wrote on Twitter that he has “represented many to get clemency”.

John M. Dowd, Mr Trump’s former personal lawyer, has claimed his close relationship to the President could secure pardons, marketing himself to convicted felons and accepting tens of thousand dollars from them, giving advice to “potential clients to leverage Mr Trump’s grievances about the justice system”.
And what would this story be without former New York mayor – now Mr Trump’s personal lawyer – Rudy Giuliani, an associate of who told ex-CIA officer John Kiriakou, who was jailed in 2012 for leaking the identity of an operative involved in torture, a presidential pardon was “going to cost $2 million”.
RELATED: What Trump doesn’t want you to see

An associate of Mr Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, told an ex-CIA officer a Trump pardon would ‘cost $2m’. Picture: Jeff Kowalsky/AFPSource:AFP

“Two million bucks – are you out of your mind?” Mr Kiriakou reportedly said.
“Even if I had two million bucks, I wouldn’t spend it to recover a $700,000 pension.”
Mr Giuliani rejected Mr Kiriakou’s version of events, saying he didn’t work as a pardon broker because he already represented Mr Trump.
“It’s like a conflict of interest,” he told the paper, adding that while he had heard large fees were being offered, “I have enough money. I’m not starving.”
    RELATED: Donald Trump's impeachment explained

The report also identified lobbyists – including Matt Schlapp and Mark D. Cowan – it said were seeking pardons on behalf of fee-paying clients.
And while it’s not illegal to do so, “this kind of off-books influence peddling, special-privilege system denies consideration to the hundreds of ordinary people who have obediently lined up as required by Justice Department rules”, Margaret Love, who was the United States pardon lawyer at the Department of Justice for seven years, told the paper.
“(It’s) a basic violation of the longstanding effort to make this process at least look fair,” she said.
Along with his children, Mr Giuliani and Mr Kushner, the President has also reportedly discussed taking the “extraordinary” step of pardoning himself for crimes he has yet to be charged with.
If he takes the step, a separate piece by The New York Timessaid it “would mark one of the most extraordinary and untested uses of presidential power in American history”.
It’s also not clear – since a President has never pardoned himself – whether such an act would actually prevent Mr Trump from facing legal trouble.

So who's he going to pardon then?

They are talking about 100 but I'm sure he'd do as many as he can to try and get his little trumpanzees fist pumping.

I expect it will include fraudsters, traitors and murderers.

His cabinet is in shambles. I would be surprised if he gets 100 out and those are people who agreed to pay.

Pardons are for sale, like anything else with the Trump crime family. Rudy Giuliani is offering his insider pardon services for $2 million per pardon.

    Love the London Museum ...

Trump baby protest blimp enters Museum of London collection

    President Donald Trump-wireap_33e602eedf86451e9d1fc13ca1301200_16x9_992-jpg

“By collecting the baby blimp, we can mark the wave of feeling that washed over the city that day and capture a particular moment of resistance,” Sharon Ament, the museum's director, said in a statement.

    AND ...

The latest exhibit at the Museum of London features pieces of the 130-ton fatberg that was removed from a tunnel under the city's Whitechapel district last year.

    Subtle coincidence?

I don't understand why a president , any president should have the power to nullify a decision of a co-equal branch of government.
    What is the supporting rational?

The Chicago tribune just released a draft of the farewell letter trump wrote for Biden .

Column: Donald Trump’s Inauguration Day letter to Joe Biden: An exclusive (very real) draft

Column: Donald Trump’s Inauguration Day letter to Joe Biden: An exclusive (very real) draft - Chicago Tribune

    "Dear LOSER!!

Welcome to the White House, you sleepy dope. I am leaving not because you beat me but because I choose to stop being president because I have already been THE BEST president in American history. Many have said that. I hear it all the time, people say, “Sir, there has never been a president like you.”

And I know they’re right. I’ve accomplished more than any president in history, and I remain incredibly popular and everyone loves me, especially my late father. And also Lindsey Graham. Just ask him, he tells me that all the time. He’s a total loser, but he knows a good president when he sees one. By the way, I left a file about him in the desk here. It contains … some things, if you know what I mean. Just wave it around if you ever need to get him to do something for you. He’s like a trained dog.

Anyway, back to all the things I’ve done that you will never match, and it won’t even be close.

I built the big, beautiful wall to keep out the bad hombres. Nobody called them bad hombres before I did. I came up with that, and people love it. It was so smart. Some slobs said it was racist, but they’re racist. I’m the least racist person I’ve ever met. By far.

But yes, I built the wall. Some will say there are still hundreds of miles of open border, but I haven’t seen them so they doesn’t exist. FAKE NEWS!

We have our great Trump wall, and do you know who’s paying for that wall? Do you? Because actually, I don’t. I kept sending the contractor bills in an envelope clearly marked “MEXICO!” but it just kept getting returned. Good luck with that.

Speaking of bills, I’m gonna need you to pay Rudy Giuliani for me. He’s a great American patriot and represented me in all this RIGGED ELECTION stuff. He did a terrible job, frankly. I told him to find me fraud and he didn’t find a thing, even though I know it’s out there because that guy from the pillow company told me it is.

Anyway, pay Rudy. The bill is in the desk by that file of stuff on Lindsey.

Where was I? Oh yeah, I accomplished so much. We have our great, great health care plan, which I’ll be releasing in two weeks. It will be better than that disastrous Obamacare you idiots came up with. So that’s coming up soon, since I can still technically be president if I want to, since I won, by a lot, and you lost. I beat you in a landslide, you know that’s true.

Some losers in the media keep saying I should just say you won. They say crazy stuff, like that I’m “fomenting violence.” What does “fomenting” even mean? I gotta ask Jared.

Speaking of Jared, can you give him a job? That would be a good way to unify the country, and frankly, I can’t stand the kid. Creepy looking. I just had him around to keep Ivanka happy. Isn’t she beautiful? Not sure what she sees in that skinny weirdo, but whatever.

Now look, I know you’re going to screw up everything I’ve done, and I want you to know this: I don’t care. I just want to get down to Mar-a-Lago and keep bilking money from these rubes I sold hats to. So how about you give me a big pardon? Not that I’ve done anything wrong, but just in case. You give me a pardon, I’ll give you nothing and we’ll call it even, deal?

I had Stephen Miller draw up the pardon papers. They’re in that same drawer with the wall bills and the Lindsey dirt … sorry, I mean “information.”

Oh, speaking of Miller, there might be bags of human hair stashed in a few places. We tried to find them all, but he’s pretty sneaky.

    Good luck, dummy.

    NOT!

    — STILL President Donald J. Trump "

Federal court strikes down major Trump climate rollback

WASHINGTON -- In a last-minute slap at President Donald Trump, a federal appeals court struck down one of his administration’s most momentous climate rollbacks on Tuesday, saying officials acted illegally in issuing a new rule that eased federal regulation of air pollution from power plants.

The Trump administration rule was based on a “mistaken reading of the Clean Air Act,” the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled, adding that the Environmental Protection Agency "fundamentally has misconceived the law.” The decision is likely to give the incoming Biden administration a freer hand to regulate emissions from power plants, one of the major sources of climate-damaging fossil fuel emissions.

EPA spokeswoman Molly Block called the agency’s handling of the rule change “well-supported." The court decision "risks injecting more uncertainty at a time when the nation needs regulatory stability,” she said.

Environmental groups celebrated the ruling by a three-member panel of the Court of Appeals.

“Today’s decision is the perfect Inauguration Day present for America,'' said Ben Levitan, a lawyer for the Environmental Defense Fund, one of the groups that had challenged the Trump rule in court.

The ruling “confirms that the Trump administration’s dubious attempt to get rid of common-sense limits on climate pollution from power plants was illegal,'' Levitan said. "Now we can turn to the critically important work of protecting Americans from climate change and creating new clean energy jobs.”

A coalition of environmental groups, some state governments and others had challenged the Trump administration’s so-called Affordable Clean Energy, or ACE, rule for the power sector. The rule, which was made final in 2019, replaced the Clean Power Plan, the Obama administration's signature program to address climate change.: Federal court strikes down major Trump climate rollback - ABC News - https://www.cadc.uscourts.gov/intern...40-1880546.pdf

    Welcome.

Anyways still as yet to be confirmed reports that Trump will pardon Steve Bannon. Two things:

    1. he seems to be dragging out giving out the actual list until the last possible moment, who couldn't say that was by design to take attention from Biden's inauguration, spiteful to the last; and
    2. pardoning the guy who stole money from his supporters shows just what he thinks about those supporters.
