Why the hell he's pardoning gangsta rappers I can't imagine. Unless he's looking to expand his base in the event of a future run.
You are probably right.
Mary Frances Berry is a professor of American history and social thought at the University of Pennsylvania, focusing on legal history and social policy. From 1980 to 2004, she was a member of the US Commission on Civil Rights.
Quoted on the BBC
"When he supported that package of measures that helped particular people in the black community, like First Step, pardoning people at the same time that he supported an amendment in the appropriations bill that gave a whole bunch of money to historically black colleges and universities for the first time.
He put all of these things together, as well as having the first stimulus programme making sure that black businessman and entrepreneurs get some of those loans they've had trouble getting before.
The effect of all of that, which we will see over time, was in the midterms, a lot more young black men voted for Trump than before. And if that's a trend, it may help the Republican party."
Biden inauguration: Trump to leave White House for Florida before ceremony - live updates | US news | The Guardian
Trump is due to leave the White House just before 8am (in about 50 minutes), headed for Joint Base Andrews, the military base in Maryland used by Air Force One.
The White House has issued invitations for a ceremony at the base, with attendees told to arrive at 7.15am and the event due to start 45 minutes later – that’s at 1pm if you are, like me, in the UK. Few details have been released about the event, but Trump is reportedly keen on a lavish affair, featuring a 21-gun salute, a color guard, a military band and reams of supporters, CNN reported.
In a sign that Trump’s aides may be struggling to gather a large crowd, however, guests have been told they can bring up to five other people, and invitees even included Anthony Scaramucci, the extremely short-lived former White House communications director who has become a vocal Trump critic.
Ha she left the White House yet? I think he may have.
Watching him leaving on CNN at the moment. Byyyyyeeeeee!!!!!
Rambling bye bye speech, out of touch, very few at the send off, he got his cannons, but no fly over. Downcast. Live now.
"The things that I've done have been just incredible" - well there's something we can all agree on.
Good, he's finished. Now FUCK OFF you bald orange loser.
Just did the perp walk out of the White House , crews are busy fumigating the place.
Mods you can change the title to "FORMER AND WORST EVER president donald trump" when you like.
Biden waited until after trump finished his speech before starting on his way to church. Classy.
What happened to all the Trump stooges on TD and their chant of "4 more years"? Did they go into hiding again?
Trump Has Discussed Starting a New Political Party - WSJ.com
President Trump has talked in recent days with associates about forming a new political party, according to people familiar with the matter, an effort to exert continued influence after he leaves the White House.
Mr. Trump discussed the matter with several aides and other people close to him last week, the people said. The president said he would want to call the new party the “Patriot Party,” the people said.
Mr. Trump has feuded in recent days with several Republican leaders including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.), who on Tuesday said Mr. Trump deserved blame for provoking the deadly Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol. Polls show Mr. Trump retains strong support among rank-and-file GOP voters.
The White House declined to comment.
Initially I was upset at McConnell's delayment of the senate trial until after Biden was sworn in. I now realise that it was a masterful move to make trump behave in the last few days, by holding the senate trial like the sword Damocles over his head.
He was telling him "Go ahead punk, pardon yourself and kids, try some sneaky crap. Go ahead make my day punk.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.
