I think that given the way America is set up the electoral college system is as good as they can get at trying to give more equal representation to all voters.

In Australia we have electoral districts that have their boundaries reviewed to try and maintain more even populations in each district, with the idea being to make everyone's vote equal.
I don't see how this could be done in America as the County boundaries are set and each state has more individual power than the states in Australia.

So I think the people who set up the system in the US were pretty damn clever because it still works today when the place is vastly different than it was 200 years ago.

It depends on what the Senate is there for. It is a house of review and each state has equal numbers of Senators so that each state has supposedly the same representation.
The Lower house is where there is meant to be elected representatives that are elected on a equal value votes as per population numbers.
The Senate members are also elected for 6 year terms and with only half facing election with each House of Representatives election it is supposed to balance out wild swings in voter sentiment. I think it works quite well.
My main objection to the Aussie system is that the Prime Minster is chosen by the elected parliamentarians of the governing party. So the voters don't get a real say the party powerbrokers are the ones who do.

    Wyoming has two senators.

    California has two senators.

Senators control who goes to the SCOTUS.

I think perhaps my point sailed over your head.

Did we not have a revolution and gained our independence from England exactly for that reason?

The highest legal authority in the country is predominately right wing * because of this, despite them not having a statistical mandate.

I did miss the point that you were talking about the SCOTUS because you were replying to another posters comment which was not talking about the SCOTUS.
You did quantify what you were talking about by saying "the highest legal authority" but I missed the importance of that bit, my bad!
I didn't realise that each state had the same number of Senators but I did or do know that the Senate has to agree to whomever gets to replace a deceased member of the SCOTUS.
It seems to me that the current members die at the wrong time for the Democrats or it would be stacked that way instead.
From what I understand the status quo has been maintained re the House of Reps is controlled by the Democrats and the Senate will still be controlled by the Republicans only the White House role has changed in this election. So maybe things will not be that much different after all.

The major problem is that the constitution is so vague that it allows for abuse. There is a "rule" that the sitting president nominates SCOTUS judges and the Senate considers them and approves/rejects them. The Republicans decided to abuse this rule to stop Obama's nomination even being considered, claiming it was "too close to the election". Then they threw that out of the window when RBG died. The Dems are partially to blame for that because they abolished the rule allowing nominations to be fillibustered.

These things need to be tested in court and laws written to stop them being misused by either side.

You're right though, without the senate, all Biden can really do is Executive Orders.

McConnell being the c u n t that he is will block anything unless he gets his pound of flesh out of it.

    Just noticed this gem.

The President tweeted so many baseless claims about having the election stolen from him that his Twitter feed contained more warnings than actual text.

    Dumb shit.

A BRITISH punter has lost $5million after betting on Donald Trump to defeat Joe Biden in the US presidential election.

The former banker, who is based offshore, used a private bookies registered on the Caribbean island Curacao to place his risky gamble - believed to be the largest political punt ever made.

...nor a decent/savvy businessman, as has been mystically promoted for a couple decades.

Less to examine his highly questionable character and unreasoned ethos.

Will be interesting to follow this theatre in the coming months as the insurmountable debts come due and the handful of criminal/civil charges being laced toward him and all associated.

'losing my religion' is a common expression in the american south for losing one's temper....and the lyrics to that song are about unrequited love.

    nice try, newbie dave.
