This really shouldn’t need to be explained, but…

First of all, the Pew Research Center is about as non-partisan as you’re going to get. Secondly, comparing the two polls is ridiculous. Asking people’s opinion about a current event, is a lot different than asking people what they think may, or may not happen in a future event.

Trump on hydroxychloroquine: "What do you have to lose? And a lot of people are saying that, and are taking it."

What's the harm in a buffoon and his sycophants pushing unqualified medical advice and what have you got to lose? Well your life for one thing:

    An interesting read / perspective:

We Are Living in a Failed State

The coronavirus didn’t break America. It revealed what was already broken.

When the virus came here, it found a country with serious underlying conditions, and it exploited them ruthlessly. Chronic ills—a corrupt political class, a sclerotic bureaucracy, a heartless economy, a divided and distracted public—had gone untreated for years. We had learned to live, uncomfortably, with the symptoms. It took the scale and intimacy of a pandemic to expose their severity—to shock Americans with the recognition that we are in the high-risk category.

The crisis demanded a response that was swift, rational, and collective. The United States reacted instead like Pakistan or Belarus—like a country with shoddy infrastructure and a dysfunctional government whose leaders were too corrupt or stupid to head off mass suffering. The administration squandered two irretrievable months to prepare. From the president came willful blindness, scapegoating, boasts, and lies. From his mouthpieces, conspiracy theories and miracle cures. A few senators and corporate executives acted quickly—not to prevent the coming disaster, but to profit from it. When a government doctor tried to warn the public of the danger, the White House took the mic and politicized the message.

Yup, they sounded better, but, the truth of the matter was the Affordable Care Act was far from affordable. All it did was required insurance companies to accept preexisting conditions, which they then covered by passing on the cost to all by increasing premiums.

Speaking from experience - real numbers - 58/59yo male, 53yo female, ACA premiums USD $1,200/mo. with a USD $15k deductible. So, if either party gets sick they have for pay USD $29k out-of-pocket BEFORE the insurance company has to pay one cent.

Affordable??? depends upon how far you can stretch your imagination - the numbers above is/are the cheapest of the quotations I received. I received four quotations. And, to further expand, this insurance plan required me to use Doctors and hospitals in the next county over - more than an hours drive away.

You'd think so yes but then you need to remember that a significant proportion of Americans thought that a black man trying to give them affordable healthcare was a socialist/commie/Marxist/Mooslim plot to take over the country.

    These are not smart people.

Oh my fucking word, that must be SOCIALISM!

And let's not forget that the Republicans have basically sabotaged it from the get go.

simple solution. Rename it "Trumpcare".....(with his name on it he will ignore the screeching conflict with his avowed political views - or may not even see a conflict in the first place)

Should be quite obvious to most everyone that there are deep sociopathic and psychotic traits at work.

Well, actually the Affordable Care Act is still in effect.

However, the two vehicles that were to fund most of it, the Cadillac Tax and the Individual Mandate are dead - Trump killed the individual mandate after good ole McCain showed his childish side with his grandiose thumbs down HaHa gotcha gesture. As far as the Cadillac Tax - well, perhaps you Dems can explain how The Democratic-led House of Representatives has overwhelmingly voted to repeal a tax on high-cost health insurance plans under Obamacare known as the "Cadillac tax." The 419-6 vote is a signal of bipartisan unity against a key provision of the Affordable Care Act.

Now, as far as our do nothing repubs - for all the caterwauling they did throughout Obamas administration and the campaigning leading up to the elections - paraphrasing Trumps word - Trump said he expected the repubs to have their plan on his desk for signature on day one. Naught but a bunch of bullshit artists. They delivered squat - because they have squat.

But - the truth of the matter is the medicos, pharmas and insurance companies have all american politicians in their pockets - the system is set up and maintained by expert financiers (best money can buy) to soak every last penny out of the american public provided under the guise of the very best medical care money can buy - it truly is the worlds best con game.

And, they'll play both sides against each other in a most grandiose show and the american public, dems and repubs, accept it, because... They Can Not Fix It... it has grown for too long and is deeply ingrained - tear down and rebuilt...
