President Donald Trump says he isn't concerned "at all" about the coronavirus getting closer to the White House after the nation's capital reported its first case Saturday.
Maryland officials warned Saturday that a person who attended the recent Conservative Political Action Conference in the suburb of Oxon Hill had tested positive for the virus.
Both Trump and Vice President Mike Pence spoke at the conference. The White House said Saturday there was no indication that either had met or were in "close proximity" to the infected attendee.
Asked if he was concerned about the virus getting closer, Trump said: "No, I'm not concerned at all. No, I'm not. We've done a great job."

Official: White House didn't want to tell seniors not to fly
    MIKE STOBBE
    Associated PressMarch 8, 2020, 10:03 AM GMT+8
NEW YORK (AP) — The White House overruled health officials who wanted to recommend that elderly and physically fragile Americans be advised not to fly on commercial airlines because of the new coronavirus, a federal official told The Associated Press.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention submitted the plan this week as a way of trying to control the virus, but White House officials ordered the air travel recommendation be removed, said the official who had direct knowledge of the plan. Trump administration officials have since suggested certain people should consider not traveling, but they have stopped short of the stronger guidance sought by the CDC.

The person who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity did not have authorization to talk about the matter. The person did not have direct knowledge about why the decision to kill the language was made.

    What a fucking plank.

“I like this stuff. I really get it,” Trump claimed during his trip Friday to the headquarters of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “Everyone of these doctors said, ‘How do you know so much about this?’ Maybe I have a natural ability. Maybe I should have done that instead of running for president."

One thing Trump probably should not have done, if he truly understands the disease, was not to kiss a well-handled flag on a stage of the Conservative Political Action Conference last month, Jost hinted.
Someone attending CPAC has tested positive for coronavirus (he had no contact with the president, according to event organizers). Jost quipped that it was the guy in “charge of handling Trump’s flag.”
Scientists have had to explain to Trump a number of times that a vaccine against coronavirus can’t be developed for public use in a matter of a few months, as he has claimed. They have also had to explain the concept of antibodies to him.
'We're All Gonna Die': Trump's Boast That He's A Medical Whiz Appalls 'Weekend Update' | HuffPost

President Donald Trump promised Monday that “very exciting things are happening rapidly” on the coronavirus front, including a possible “quick” vaccine. But that hope was instantly dashed by the top health expert on his COVID-19 task force, who said a vaccine might be ready in 18 months.

Trump appeared to confuse when a vaccine could be tested with when it could be safely used by Americans.

Trump’s specifics on the battle against coronavirus were vague, but he promised they would undoubtedly be “very successful.” He made his remarks as he met in the Oval Office with task force members and 10 pharmaceutical company executives.

Trump also vowed that “we will continue to do exactly what we’ve been doing,” even though the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been sharply criticized over its flawed, limited tests for the disease.

As for a vaccine, Trump said, “I’ve heard very quick numbers, that of months. And I’ve heard pretty much a year would be an outside number. So I think that’s not a bad range. But ... you’re talking about three to four months in a couple of cases, a year in other cases.”

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, instantly corrected Trump: “Let me make sure you get the ... information.” A vaccine could be ready “at the earliest [in] a year to a year-and-a-half, no matter how fast you go,” said Fauci, noting: “Like I’ve been telling you, Mr. President.”

Fauci also corrected Trump after his first news conference on the coronavirus last Wednesday, when the president insisted a vaccine was “very close.” Fauci later said a coronavirus vaccine could take up to two years.

The president underscored at the meeting that one company was talking about a vaccine in “two months.” But Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar pointed out to him that a vaccine could be ready to begin testing in two months. Vaccines go through three stages of testing before they’re available to the public much later.
Executives also had to explain to a stumped Trump that a typical flu vaccine won’t work against the new coronavirus.

The president appeared a bit foggy about vaccines in general. Schleifer explained about antibodies.

I reckon this Dr. Anthony Fauci chap will be looking for a job pretty soon. No one contracts the supreme great leader like that and gets away with it. Everyone knows he is a stable genius and is always right.

Donald Trump used a freewheeling press conference on Friday, intended to provide updates on the coronavirus, as an opportunity to attack Democrats, praise his own intelligence, lash out at CNN and spread false and misleading information about the status of the outbreak, as a slew of new cases were confirmed aboard a cruise ship off the California coast.Speaking at the Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) main campus in Atlanta, Georgia, while wearing his red “Keep America Great” re-election campaign hat, the president went on a rant criticizing Washington state’s governor, Jay Inslee, as a “snake” and saying he disagreed with his vice-president’s complimentary remarks toward the Democrat. Inslee, who ran for president last year, is overseeing the response to the most serious outbreak in the US.

In a moment that some commentators have called one of the most “disturbing” and “frightening” remarks of Trump’s response to the public health crisis, the president also said he would prefer that cruise ship passengers exposed to the virus be left aboard so that they don’t add to the number of total infections in the US.

“I like the numbers being where they are,” said Trump, who appeared to be explicitly acknowledging his political concerns about the outbreak: “I don’t need to have the numbers double because of one ship that wasn’t our fault.”
The president further implied that the coronavirus test was available to anyone who needed it, even though his own administration has acknowledged that there is currently a shortage among US healthcare providers.
Trump’s remarks came as the vice-president, Mike Pence, announced that 21 people on a cruise ship being held off San Francisco had tested positive for coronavirus. He also urged older Americans to “use caution” in planning any cruise ship vacation.
Speaking at the White House, Pence said the government was planning to bring the Grand Princess cruise ship into a “non-commercial port” where all the passengers and crew would be tested. They would be quarantined and treated as needed.
There are more than 3,500 people on the ship, counting passengers and crew. Pence said 19 of those who tested positive were crew members and two were passengers.

Watched a news story on Trump visiting the CDC last Wednesday and when asked about the testing kits, Trump responded with rambling optimism and said they are making some beautiful tests. I then watched him make a segway into how the tests will be perfect. "Just like the call that was perfect, the tests will be perfect" The next few minutes were mumble-speak about the Ukraine issue. There is something not right in that guy's head.

    How old was 3rd choice ? 70 ?

    That is the tragedy

Maybe Mugabe wasn't so foolish afterall, when he sought reelection at a 122 years old.

Sad state of affairs, in American politics.
It’s unlikely that either one of them would live to see a second term.

nothing wrong with libs, Ant, you are missing my point, again

Trump got elelected for a purpose, and he is delivering

while the Dems are stuck in the past in an old system that no longer exist, they need to get back to reality, they OWN themselves, sadly

Bloomberg was a perfect example of a disconnected candidate, they can't beat Trump now

only Trump can beat Trump, and that's how probably he will fall at the end
