War on Drugs: 'A Trillion-Dollar Failure'

    Pretty interesting book

The War on Drugs: 'A Trillion-Dollar Failure' | Rolling Stone

And it's been going on for decades, with virtually little to no outrage from the public.
The war on drugs is politically expedient tool for politicians, but every time the government clamps down the situation only gets worse.

The War on Drugs is a trillion-dollar failure. We spend billions of dollars pursuing drugs and billions imprisoning people that probably shouldn't be in prison. We have troops in Central America chasing drug dealers, we have Special Forces and Marines. Meanwhile, this war has killed a hundred thousand people in Mexico – and that doesn't include 22,000 people missing.
And people in this country barely seem to notice.
We've become conditioned to go, "Well, Mexico is corrupt, that's Mexico." But I would ask the question "What kind of corruption do we have? What kind of corruption do we have in our soul that makes us the world's largest market for drugs, which is what fuels and funds this violence?"
Portugal even with it's halfway approach is far better now after their 14 year experiment.

    The funny thing is Earl,

America which traditionally been hard core on all drugs is now leading the way with legalization of weed.

Now who would of thought that would happen EH.

Hopefully in the coming decade many more countries will come to realize that criminalizing weed is totally fuking pointless.

^ indeed, but it's been a long time coming, hopefully some of the newer braver politicians and social leaders with begin speaking the truth about drug addiction; that is the number of addicts will remain constant whether drugs are legal or illegal.

There needs to be a shift, like they did in Portugal to view drug addiction as a health issue, not a law enforcement issue.

Legalize heroin and cocaine and the entire methamphetamine trade would virtually disappear.

Some US states de-crimmed weed as the Boomers that used to smoke and still smoke got into power positions in govt.

But another big motivator is $$$$. More revenue for the state. Shameless.

In my home-state, you can buy weed from a licensed store -- but do not sell any yourself to someone -- that's illegal.

The war on drugs and the war on terror and both actually are a war on jobs.

If they were to suspend both the drug and terror wars, many community, local service opportunities, and businesses would blossom.

Empowering and looking to the federal government for solutions is big mistake.
The federal government is nothing more than a tool for mega-corporations.

Bring back the ancient greek style city-state!
