I think Twitter has become the International benchmark for empty-headedness....just out of curiosity i set up an account and "tweeted" with the username " Samuel Beckett and low and behold 4 weeks later i had 19 followers .....Halfwit ninnies.

Equally, could say the same about all Social Media, including TEAKDOOR....do posters follow each other here ,considering the amount of time some posters devote to this forum,....

Twitter has its uses. If there is a breaking world event it is invaluable. For example the wars Syria or Ukraine, protests or anything of that nature its a great way to get information.

Never used TWITTER...Have to try it frist then back to this thread again ..++

Most Thai girls are cyber junkies.. they have everything imaginable to boost their egos... I don't need affirmation I'm a Dick.... cause I know that without my 'followers' telling me..

*That being said, if you guys have businesses, Face Book is a handy tool to reach your customers... I suppose I will have to make a FB page when I go to Japan for that very reason.

Twitter is better than the online forums in which anonymous, bored old men bait and berate each other for year after year. I'm not sure that online forums are the future of social media, but we shall see.

Took me a long long time to develop a positive view on Twitter, but I found that a lot of the people whom i've admired and liked in public life write on there, Richard Dawkins, Andrew Marr, Geoffrey Boycott, Niall Ferguson inter alia - and so I follow them. I don't expect people to follow me, nor would there be any point in them doing so.

Sometimes, one might send them a note via Twitter, and get a direct reply. That's quite nice when that happens - as of course they wouldn't in many other circumstances give you the time of day.

I agree. Its not for people to post photos of their dinner to their mates. That's Facebook's job.

The media use it for quick and easy quote gathering - eg for obituaries.

Following your preferred commentators has the effect of confirming your own pre-existing biases. You read things you sort of already agree with.

However, once the PR people commandeer a person's twitter feed - then it goes on-brand and on-message. Thats whats happened recently with Boris Johnson's. Time to delete them then.

Anyway, people should give it a go. Took me years to come round to it, but once i'd figured out the people I like to read, Twitter became quite good.
