I have stated numerous times to friends and colleagues that as long as the media sensationalizes these events, there is always a copy cat looking to make a statement knowing they get their 5 minutes of fame and go from being an unknown to someone in a history book. If this media blitz stopped making headlines and fill every news channel for hours and hours about "I can't believe this happened" interviews followed by the deep dive and all the family interviews etc this would dramatically decrease. The more hype it gets, the more likely the guy thinking about it will do it.
