American politics is Brocken in so many different ways that it is impossible to accomplish even that that is abundantly clear. never mind the complex problems.
The foxes are guarding the chickens. Nothing will ever happen until there is campaign finance reform. Political campaigns are shorten to a few weeks. Voting would last a few days giving everyone a chance to vote, and there are term limits. Good luck in any of that happening in a meaningful way.
IMO the only way America can move forward, is for the more progressive's states to secede from the Union, detaching themselves from the drag of the ball and chain of the Alabamastans.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

Americans shooting themselves in the foot??

Texas to allow unlicensed carrying of handguns

Texas legislators have passed a bill which would allow most people to carry concealed handguns without a permit.

Current state rules require those carrying handguns to have a licence, training and background checks.

But Texas's Republican-run senate has voted to drop the restrictions, despite warnings from gun control groups that the measures could put lives at risk.

Supporters say the new measures would allow Texans to better defend themselves in public.

They mainly need to defend themselves from people carrying unlicensed, concealed weapons. So the answer, obviously, is to allow unlicensed, concealed weapons.

Another mass shooting, this time in San Jose, California.
Eight killed in a railway yard incident. Details are a bit sketchy, looks like shooter set fire to his house first.

    ^ It never ends.

Transit employees among 9 dead in shooting at San Jose rail yard

A public transit employee opened fire on co-workers at a Northern California rail yard Wednesday, killing more than a half-dozen people before taking his own life, authorities said.

Calls of shots fired came about 6:34 a.m. PT near 100 W. Younger Ave. in downtown San Jose, drawing a large law enforcement response, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said.

The shooter was identified as Samuel Cassidy, an employee of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), law enforcement sources said. He shot and killed himself at the scene, according to sources.

At least eight people were killed, not including the shooter, sheriff's Deputy Russell Davis said.

"This is a horrific day for our city and it is a tragic day for the VTA family, and our heart pains for the families and the co-workers because we know so many are feeling deeply this loss of their loved ones and their friends," San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo told reporters at the scene.

Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith said her deputies and San Jose police officers arrived quickly after the initial 911 calls.

“When the shots were still being fired, our teams, with San Jose PD, are entering the building while shots were still going off. We attempted rescues," Smith said. "We have some very brave officers and deputies."

Citing an "active shooter," deputies told the public at 7:12 a.m. PT to steer clear of the neighborhood, about 50 miles south of downtown San Francisco.

Even hours after the shooter died, a bomb squad was clearing the area in case he left explosives behind.

“We received information that there are explosive devices that are located inside the building,” Davis told reporters at the scene. “ We’re trying to clear out every room, every crevice of that building.”

The dead suspect is believed to be the only shooter involved, according to officials.

"Public safety is assured at this point," Davis said.

The Younger Avenue address is a light rail yard of the VTA, which provides bus, rail and various shuttle services to the booming Bay Area suburb and technology hub.

Davis called the shooting scene a VTA "control center" which is a "hub that stores multiple VTA trains and a maintenance yard as well."

The shooting happened "on the VTA light rail yard but it did not happen in the operations control center," VTA Board Chairman Glenn Hendricks said.

San Jose transit official to families of lives lost at railyard shooting: 'We are here for you'
    MAY 26, 202101:44
Hendricks added he was proud of transit workers who stayed on the job and kept moving commuters even in the face of Wednesday's mass shooting.

"A horrible tragedy has happened today," Hendricks said. “I could not be more proud of the VTA organization. As I drove here, I saw VTA buses out on the road."

The area is also in the center of regional law enforcement operations, as the rail yard is within a half-mile of the San Jose Police Department, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office and District Attorney headquarters.

The shooting comes amid a yearlong rise in nationwide gun violence and record firearm sales.

White House principal deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the federal government is keeping in close contact with law enforcement in San Jose.

"We will continue to stay in close contact with them and offer any assistance as needed," she said. "We still don't know all of the details ... but what's clear, as the president has said, is that we are suffering from an epidemic of gun violence in this country, both in mass shootings and in the lives that are being taken in daily gun violence that doesn't make national headlines."

    ^ Thank-you misskit...

They are saying he was a "strange" employee on the BBC website. However, with the number of mass shootings in the US this year I'd have to say he's just another average American...

Also from the BBC, the Governor, Gavin Newsom condemned the cycle of US mass shootings saying:

What the hell is wrong with the United States of America?
    and
When will we put down our arms?
A question the rest of the world has been asking for years....

A cashier is dead and two people were wounded after a shooting broke out following an argument inside a Georgia store Monday afternoon over its COVID-19 mask policy, authorities said.

The incident took place near Candler Road in DeKalb County at a Big Bear grocery store around 1:10 p.m. when Victor Lee Tucker, Jr., 30, of Palmetto, Georgia, entered the store, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.

Tucker, who was also wounded during the incident, allegedly got into an argument with a cashier about wearing a face mask while he was checking out his items, according to investigators.

"Tucker left the store without making his purchase, but immediately returned inside. Tucker walked directly back to the cashier, pulled out a handgun and shot her," the GBI
    said in a statement.

An off-duty officer, who was a veteran of the sheriff’s office, pulled his weapon and opened fire on Tucker, the GBI said. Tucker was hit but returned fire and hit the off-duty officer twice, investigators said.

Another cashier was grazed by a bullet and she was treated at the scene, according to the GBI.

The cashier who was initially shot was pronounced dead at Grady Memorial Hospital, the GBI said.

Killing a person over a face mask. How unhinged do you need to be?

This being 'Merica, do we think Tucker will spend more or less time in jail for murder than that idiot Shane Michael who merely beat up his victim?

Colorado: 'Hero' who gunned down cop killer shot dead himself by police

A "hero" who fatally shot a cop killer was then shot dead himself by another officer called to the scene.

Johnny Hurley, 40, shot Ronald Troyke after the latter had gunned down Colorado officer Gordon Beesley with a 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun.

Video footage shows Troyke, who had described police as the "enemy" and "expendable", driving his pick-up truck to an area near a library, shops and restaurants in Arvada, about seven miles from Denver.

He gets out of the vehicle carrying a gun before proceeding to kill Beesley and shoot out the windows of police cars in the area.

After returning to his pick-up to retrieve an AR-15 rifle, Troyke was confronted by Hurley, who shot him with a handgun.

When another officer arrived, Mr Hurley was holding Troyke's AR-15 and the responder opened fire, killing him, the local force said.

Woman Shot In West Fort Worth Texas Apartment, Police Say

A bullet fired from a street outside an apartment in west Fort Worth penetrated a window late Friday and struck a 28-year-old woman in the eye, the victim’s husband told authorities.

The woman was shot dead at around 11:15 pm in the Watermarke complex on the 5300 block of Sunfish Drive, Fort Worth police said.

The victim was taken to a hospital, his condition was unclear at the time.

The police did not announce an arrest.

About five hours later, a man was shot dead on the 1500 block on Liberty Street in east Fort Worth and ran to a store on the 5100 block on East Lancaster Avenue.

The victim could “not give much information,” said a police spokesman. The victim’s condition was unclear and the police had not announced any arrest.

At around 5:30 a.m., two people who had been shot dead in western Fort Worth arrived at a hospital in a private vehicle. The victims were shot dead near Block 12200 of Camp Bowie Boulevard, where there was a conflict between people in two vehicles, police said.

Gunman Kills 2 After Crashing Stolen Truck in Winthrop, Is Fatally Shot by Police

A gunman killed two people after crashing a stolen truck into a building in Winthrop, Massachusetts, Saturday, then was fatally shot by police, state troopers said.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene, including a building flattened by the truck and the gunman without shoes before firing a series of shots. None of the three people who died have yet publicly named, though police said at a news conference they have been identified -- police were reaching out to family members.

The suspected gunman had stolen a plumbing and drain company's truck, then crashed it into a building at the corner of Shirley and Cross Streets, according to Massachusetts State Police.

He got out of the truck and shot a woman and man, both of whom died, troopers said. They were investigating whether the man may have been trying to stop the gunman -- Winthrop police Chief Terence Delehanty said at a news conference one person "was engaged" with the suspected gunman in an alley before the gunman was shot.

It was Winthrop police who shot the gunman, state police said. He had two weapons, according to Delehanty.

Two other people were hospitalized but are expected to survived -- they were in a crashed vehicle that was part of the incident, according to Delehanty.

It was too early in the investigation for police to say whether the two people who were shot were connected, or whether the suspected gunman was tied to the plumbing company that owned the stolen truck.

Officers were seen saluting one of the shooting victims being taken to the Boston medical examiner.

There is no active danger to the public but people were asked to keep away from the area where it took place -- Neptune Avenue, Cross Street and Veterans Road between Beach and Washington -- because the scene remained active, according to the Winthrop Police Department. They initially reported the shooting as a "mass casualty incident."

Police were called to the incident about 2:41 p.m. over a truck that had crashed into a building near Shirley and Cross streets, Delehanty said in an initial statement.

A police officer was taken to a hospital to be evaluated but wasn't seriously hurt, according to police.
One witness heard a "big crash" while she was in bed. Emely Norena said she ran outside afterward and went to help a family in a vehicle, then heard another crash.

"Then all of a sudden, I hear a set of gun shots. then I ran back inside my house," Norena said.

She saw police arrive soon afterward, then more gunshots.

She said the house hit by the truck was "non-existent." No one was inside at the time, police said.
“I feel like my mind went blank. All I was trying to do was get my mom to safety because the gunshots really scared me. Winthrop is known to be a very safe town. Not many things like this happens around here, so it scared me a bit,” Norena said.

Robert Harrington said he saw the gunman get out of the truck:

He climbed out of the truck, climbed over the fence. He had no shoes on, he looked like he was out of it. I don’t know if he was disoriented or whatever. And then he just started casually walking down the street. I was going to say something, but what am I going to do, you know what I mean? Then, he started jogging. Then, I heard the 'boom, boom, boom, boom.' Then, I ran down, I looked down and the next thing I saw is the body in the middle of the street. So, I ran down, got behind the car, 'cause the shots were still going. You could see the smoke from the gun. To tell you the truth, the girl, it makes me very sad. I just thought I’d block it out and try to go on with my life, but it’s definitely going to stay with me.

Multiple police agencies were investigating what took place.

A crashed truck was visible at the scene, surrounded by police tape. The top of the truck appeared to be shredded and it had front-end damage as well. An SUV was damaged nearby as well.

The truck belongs to a company called Rapid Flow, Inc., which it acknowledged Saturday afternoon in a Facebook post: "This afternoon one of our trucks was stolen, and unfortunately was just used moments ago to drive through a Winthrop residence. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available."

State Sen. Joe Boncore tweeting today that he is "devastated" by the incident:

The devastating incident that occurred in Winthrop today impacts our entire community. Thank you to the first responders who work tirelessly to keep us all safe.

We are praying for the victims and their families — and every individual impacted by this act of violence.

As for getting shot, my daughter just got to see it hands on 2 days ago. She has been in the trauma/emergency wing the last few months on her rotation and a guy was brought in that had been shot 3 times in a party shootout. She said they worked on him for 3.5 hrs, got 2 of the bullets out, 3rd was a through and through. After all that work and resource tie up the guy died. That was her first shooting event. When we talked on the phone she just said, it's amazing the damage bullets cause to the human body.

Nasty especially jacketed hollow points which btw are banned in warfare but legal in all but 1 US state. Just another example of the influence of the gun lobby.
